Lambert Set to Be Confirmed on Saturday
Friday, 26th Oct 2018 14:25

Paul Lambert will be confirmed as Town boss on Saturday morning at 9am ahead of the game at Millwall. The new manager will watch the match from the stands with Bryan Klug in caretaker charge.

It’s likely there will be a press conference with Lambert, 49, who is expected to sign a three-year contract, early in the week, with Tuesday currently pencilled in.

The new manager will meet the players and existing coaching staff at Playford Road on Sunday.

The deal is believed to be all but done but Town won’t make the announcement today with legend Kevin Beattie’s funeral taking place this afternoon.

Lambert is set to bring two members of staff to Portman Road to work alongside him, who we understant will be Stuart Taylor as his assistant and Jim Henry as fitness coach. Ian Culverhouse, previously Lambert's assistant at Norwich, is not thought to be part of the team.

Former Limerick manager Taylor, 43, previously worked with Lambert at Aston Villa, Wolves and Stoke, while Henry was on his staff at the Potters.

People knocking his appointment because of '' Norwich connection '' jeeeeeeezz , why not add the fact that he is another Paul ,for good measure !. He will have a tough enough job with this squad as it is , Lets give him a reason to want to dig us out of this pile of s##t and make him welcome. COYB TIME TO GET IT TOGETHER AND PLAY FOR THE SHIRT .

Went on a Narwich forum at lunchtime...apparently their EX legend is now a Binner.

Does that means Evans likes budgie smugglers. Lol

Lets not get too optimistic just yet. We're 4 points from safety and, if we don't get a couple of wins in the next three games we go in to a very difficult set of fixtures with things looking very much worse. Lambert isn't a miracle worker.

Well said, grumpyoldman. You have quite brought the grumpy old man out in me. In the circumstances, this is surely a positive appointment - Lambert has a good pedigree and wide experience. Those obsessed with hating Norwich, please just give it a rest. We now have a chance (slim or not, who knows) of avoiding relegation, and that is worth celebrating.

Do I like that a former Naaaaaaaarwich idol will be leading the cause in trying to stave off relegation and in turn become out saviour? No. Can Lambert do it? Who knows...maybe. Will I will the team to succeed? Yes. Will I give credit where credit is due if Lambert becomes the hero? Yes, absolutely. Until then the jury is out and if he fails then that Budgie connection will make things a whole lot worse all round. Thems the rules I'm afraid.

Couldn't care less about his Norwich connections, all that matters is he's here now. Wouldn't have been my first choice (from what's available), but will back him every inch of the way.

The task as i see it is a very tough one. Maybe he can bring out something in our "div1" players that PH couldn't, rejuvinate our more senior/experienced pro's and give those youngsters that deserve it, a chance. Tough indeed, and it has to be done pretty quickly too!

So, the very best of luck Paul (and assistants). Here's a chance at least to become a true blue in supporters eyes.

Just in closing, good luck to BK, in my opinion, one of the best servants this club has ever had.

Finally, to spare a thought to PH, who'se just undergone a very chastening experience. Will have surely learned a lot from it too. Best of luck for the future.

Good luck Paul. Don't care who you managed previously. All that matters is safety from relegation.

I just hope PL makes use of our brilliant youngsters. They are certainly better than some currently in the first team. Let's follow Gareth Southgates lead and employ their enthusiasm and skill.

He needs backing seriously in January Evans. If you don't you will be treating the club and its supporters with complete contempt.

How can any town fan vote this down?!! We are bottom and in danger of going down to the third teir for the first time in decades mainly due to underinvested for years. This summer we spent... net -6mill. Countless decent players sold over the years and the funds not invested back into the squad. What sort of town fan thinks all this is ok?! Unfathomable

Two positive things
1) Lambert won't of been cheap so ME must know he can't get it wrong again
2) Lambert wouldn't of come if he wasn't promised decent money to spend in January as he'll enough to know the squad isn't good enough

I can't say that I have followed Lambert career but inspired by Prebbs assertion that he had been sacked by his last 5 clubs I looked at Wikipedia to see that it suggests that he did the dirty on Norwich to join Villa - surely not the action of a true scummer. It also says he left Blackburn of his own accord

Also interesting to see his last three jobs have been similar projects to ours - coming in when a club is in trouble so not surprising his win rate is seen as low. He will need to draw on all that experience of a dogfight with us and I wish him every success . The early games this season had some positive so hopefully he can get us organised, difficult to beat and put some confidence back into the players by consistency in selection and formation

Mr Lambert your a brave man.Best of luck from me you'll need all the support you can get working with not the best group of players ever seen at this club roll on Jan and turf out half a dozen dead hoofball wood.

I find it hard with his Norwich connections but we all must pull together and get behind him and his backroom staff and especially the players.. this is dark days at PR but let's hope lambert can give us a side we are proud to follow again.... Evans must loosen the strings in January though..
looking back on where we first met....I cannot escape but I've had to forget.. lambert your the one.. you now turn me on... PORTMAN ROAD IS FUN AGAIN!! COYB!!!

Wish him all the best, might take him some time to get a bit of confidence installed in the players in an otherwise fairly weak squad. A couple of wins early doors is needed to get some sort of momentum. Long suffering support need some good times.

We can only hope that he comes here with a point to prove - to the other end of the A140.

Bit of a gamble - but we're in the proverbial, and not exactly able to be choosy. Realistically, probably the best we're likely to attract right now - and the least risk.

Would still have preferred Burley being involved - for those who say the game has moved on, it's still played with a ball, the feet / head, two goals, eleven players each team - it's the same game in every way.

As Bill Shankly once said:- Football is a simple game - only complicated by Coaches making out it's difficult.

The same applies today.

This is not Ipswich pedigree, which we now sadly lack - but it is what it is. Let's move on.

Takes a very deep breath...

Welcome to Ipswich, Paul. The past is the past, the present is hideous but together we can make a bright future...

On the day we laid an absolute legend to rest, I hope that we can all pull together for the good of our ravaged but beloved club.

This is what it is and I for one will get behind him to assist in the task of putting all the broken pieces back together.

We live. We learn. We change. We succeed...

Onwards and upwards!! I.T.I.D.

Woodbrigian - that might not be entirely correct as Mick came here and as we know was on a good salary but took the job on knowing he had a small budget, as most of the budget went on his wages and the £1M carrot he got :) (Cue down vote from you know who) :)

Good luck to Paul! Whatever manager we've got will struggle with the position we are in. So all we can ask for is his best!

Welcome Paul, and assistants. No doubt a stern challenge awaits; but one that offers you a real opportunity to show the passion and qualities that gained you almost legendary status not far from here. I think you'll find that the majority of us will give you our full support, in return for total commitment to our Club, and honesty in everything that you do - only the best will cut it. You will have already identified the need for an uplift in the squad's overall quality in January, and secured an agreement from Marcus Evans to provide the financial resources to achieve this - as a condition of accepting the job. Unless that happens, your ability to retain the club's Cship status will prove extremely difficult. Enjoy watching BK take the team to Milwall tomorrow. Come out fighting from Monday, COYB!

(BTW - in Luke Chambers we have an outstanding, intelligent, leader and team captain. Maybe not the most gifted player, but invaluable to have in the dressing room. Use him wisely.)
