Town Confirm Pennington Loan Signing
Friday, 31st Aug 2018 17:33

Town have confirmed the signing of Everton defender Matthew Pennington on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old, who has been handed the number five shirt, spent last season on loan at Leeds, who are also reported to have been interested this summer along with Blackburn and Wigan.

Pennington, who also previously had spells on loan at Tranmere, Coventry and Walsall, made 15 starts and nine sub appearances during his stint at Elland Road last season.

The 6ft 1in tall centre-half or right-back has made seven starts - six in the Premier League - and one sub appearance for Everton, having come through the ranks after joining them as an 11-year-old.

Pennington, whose only senior goal for the Toffeemen came in a 3-1 Merseyside derby defeat at Anfield in April 2017, signed a contract which runs to 2021 in May.

The Warrington-born defender is Town's sixth loanee - manager Paul Hurst's 12th summer signing in total - and looks set to go straight into the team facing Norwich at Portman Road on Sunday with Toto Nsiala suspended for three games after his red card appeal was dismissed.

Popeye - you are forgetting that people above have friends that are season ticket holders at every club he has played at and they know by far more than Paul hurst, Everton F.C. etc etc

2012 is calling, it wants it's loanees back.

Jesus wept. Like the Jewell days. 6 ruddy loanees.

I'll keep it positive ...we needed a defender, and he certainly is one.

12 new signings. Utter madness. Our promising youngsters now totally overlooked. I fear this great experiment is far too risky. Change should be gradual and considered.

Alfromcol, we've all probably seen a fair bit of him from his time at Leeds cause they're always on sky? So yes I have watched him play :)

Very poor signing. As always seems to be the case with deadline signings we don't always get who we want and I think we panicked and just randomly picked this guy. We needed an experience centre back. Our back 4 will have to work extremely hard in training to improve.

Welcome aboard, Penners. We shifted Wolfie out of the club and took you in. This is not strictly in line with the 5 Point Plan the Fuhrer has formulated, but flexibility is key in all this.

Thank goodness the transfer window has closed.
Sometimes there have been nonsensical comments about players we have never seen in an Ipswich shirt.
Now we have what we have , there is little point in discussing others who we might have had.
Remark on the players that we have when we have seen them in the Blue shirt.
Of course many will have " favourites" , and many will have mixed feelings about eg Morris and Emmanuel going out on loan but none of us on this site have anymore than guesswork, and sometimes ragged guesswork, about what really goes on behind closed doors either in the managers room or the owners office.
So now everyone just concentrate about this Sunday and cheer on for three much wanted points

I got to say it's my fellow supporters that keep me chuckling every day on here. 5 games played entirely new way of playing new players and we are righting of signings entire summer time. Come on everybody vent your anger if we don't win Sunday not now. Simple really COYB

Floridaboy - don't ever call me a canary for voicing my opinion, please.
Seems that just because we have made a physical signing we are now brilliant. We sold Webster, Waghorn, Garner and released other players, we have replaced them with risks and unwanted dead wood.
I want us to do well as much as the next fan but wake up a little bit!

Chill pills all round please.
Save our passion for Sunday when our voices can be heard in a positive manner.
I am gutted with the current position and certainly results. I have so far been to all 6 games and left most with positives and more impressed by performances than I have since Magilton left. Yes there has been bad bits but it is improving. Time is needed in any new project. I'd love steam of our own youngsters but feel the staff know more than us. Certainly feel Chalobah and Edun do offer more than our own right now. Nolan, Nsiala, Donacien and Edwards all great - Harrison and Jackson I'll judge like the team at Christmas, not 4 weeks in. Let's support this project and give it a bit of time. If this was you in your work under such pressure after 4 weeks, when change was needed how would you feel. COYB

Nydam , Morris , woolfden , emmanuel ....all out on loan , we bring in a relatively unknown CB ......my faith in hursts transfer policy has waned toward the end of this transfer window .....I just hope I am proved wrong but where is the incentive for our youngsters .....
Less Baer the scum and then mull it over ...I fear that if we get trounced the trolls (micks mates) will really raise their ugly heads

I feel there's been a few strange comings and goings in the last few days but what's that overused saying these days - it is what it is. Yes, I think it would have made more sense to send out Cotter, Folami and one or two others who don't seem to fit the new regime's bill but maybe they see Emmanuel, Morris and Woolfie in much the same way. Whatever, let's get on with it! Onwards and upwards!

Batram98 I was asking if you had seen him play egularly not "we". "We" have seen everybody play. Give the lad a chance and then report that he is useless, if he turns out to be so.

Quite possibly the worse transfer deadline ever with all our promising youngsters loaned out and replaced by sub-standard players and has beens.
Talk about stamping his mark on the team but i am noe seriously concerned. There is no way that you can change a whole team so quickly....the table does not lie!
Reckless and completely shambolic 😥

I just hope I am not seeing an 'inexperienced' Championship Manager thrashing around in the dark, making decisions that just don't follow logic.

Patiently waiting for PH to prove to me that he was the right appointment - I hope he doesn't disappoint an awful lot of us. Hasten to add, he was NOT my first choice, as most will know.

Much work to do Mr Hurst - Are you the man to do it ? - or are you LOST ?
Proof will sooner, hopefully rather than later, prove the point one way or other for sure.
