Stoke Linked With Knudsen Bid
Wednesday, 1st Aug 2018 19:46

Stoke City are reported to have made a £1 million bid for Blues left-back Jonas Knudsen.

Rumours that the Potters are keen on the Danish international have been circulating on social media for a number of days, while Town recently made an offer to Scunthorpe for another left-back, Conor Townsend, who subsequently joined West Brom. Now, the Daily Telegraph report that they have made a bid of around £1 million.

Knudsen, 25, has only a year left on his Blues contract and speaking last week manager Paul Hurst said he is in no hurry to offer the former Esbjerg fB man a new deal.

“If he sees it that he’s in the last year of his contract and he thinks he’s going to start looking elsewhere, then I can’t do anything about that,” Hurst said. “I might not want him.

“At the minute, he’s got to prove himself, all the lads in there have got to prove themselves still, even if at this moment in time I’m not going to make an absolutely definitive decision on who I would like long-term and who I won’t on the basis of some pre-season games because we all know when the season gets under way some will naturally improve, some might drop."

Personally, I'd rather he stayed. But if that is Stoke's opening bid, then I'm sure they don't expect us to accept it. The downside is that he only has a year left on his contract; otherwise, I'd be expecting £2.5 - 3 million at least for an international fullback, perhaps more.

Interesting. Fans seem split down the middle on this - half would snatch the million, others want 2-3m and want him kept. Let's see how this one plays out...

Unfortunately for Jonas. Being the youngest of Dinos proper blokes held back his development/improvement over the past 2/3 years.
And if PH has seen a quality player in there somewhere he will stay. Unless a bid is huge.
If he stays, he has to fight for his place like everyone else.
The days of guaranteed starters no matter how you perform, are thankfully over.

An honest player who deserves more credit for what he does. The 'proper bloke' tag is old hat and should be put in the bin together with any reference to MM. In my opinion he is an ok full back who with Hurst's guidance could be a better player moving forward. £2-£3m would be my valuation based on the market.

£1m?

If anything keep him purely as competition for a starting spot.

Agreed Bert. If he stays I believe we will see big improvements. He now has the guidance of a modern exciting coaching set up.
Until recently in his itfc career, he hasn't had the benefits of that.

Bert I've supported the Town for over 40yrs. And I for one will always refer to the days of the Dino and his proper blokes. As the lowest point of those 40 plus years. Onwards and upwards.

Don't want to see him go and think we should push for a little more. However, we have Kenlock and of course...Barry Cotter at LB.

1 million seems very cheap for a young international defender of any calibre from a well ranked European team (as in Denmark). Knusden has developed during our time with us and I thought he looked comfortable against West Ham. He made one mistake when he could of cleared it and made a bit of a meal of it but then he had broken the play up just before that. Overall I think there is more good than bad about Jonas and even if you don't rate him surely you can't think 1 million represents good value business for Town? The Denmark manager clearly sees something in him. He's looked comfortable enough against Croatia and West Ham, if that isn't a sign of a player developing with on-field experience I don't know what is. I wouldn't necessarily mind Knusden moving on if Hurst doesn't see him fitting into his long-term plans but £1 million seems very cheap in the current climate. We're paying that sort of level for lower league players, let alone for an international player that featured in a knock out game on the biggest football stage on earth. Clubs often try to cash in on players that have put on a good show at the World Cup whereas they certainly don't tend to let them go for peanuts, and let's be honest, 1 million in the current market is peanuts!!!
Knusden seems to get a lot of stick for the Town and I think unfairly. I've seen much worse players pull on the blue shirt down the years than JK. I know he's not going to go down in ITFC folklore but he's far from among the worst players we've ever had.

@itfc1973 lowest point in past 40 years supporting town was the Roy Keane debacle. No question.

I think the fact that chambo is captain and Skuse is likely to start it shows what all the know all commentators of the news site actually know.
