Kids for a Quid Boosts Crowd for Villa Match
Tuesday, 17th Apr 2018 12:12

More than 17,000 tickets have been sold for Saturday’s game against Aston Villa at Portman Road, caretaker-boss Bryan Klug’s first home match in charge, with the Blues running a Kids for a Quid promotion for fans aged under 19.

All under-19s will be admitted for just a pound, although all under-13s will have to be accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets are on sale at Planet Blue and via ITFC Direct.

Villa, fourth in the Championship table and still chasing an automatic promotion place, have sold out their 2,000 seat allocation.

As ever, the FanZone will be open from midday, when the Elena Baltacha Tennis Foundation, Suffolk Cricket and a Panini 2018 World Cup sticker shop swap will be amongst the attractions, and then again after the game until 6pm.

Boots2Africa will be hosting another of their preloved football boot donation events from 1pm.

Showing my naivety, but is this not the way forward for Ipswich? So many big clubs now in the Championship give them more tickets, they will sell out their allocation. More promotions like this one for our younger fans too, seems to be getting the right response. I appreciate this will impact on ST holders, but we need PR buzzing again with an exciting atmosphere and bigger crowds for the players to perform in front of - instead of the library at the moment!

stayaway fans are going to have to see a change in the level or attitude of football on display, the second half v millwall was probably the best since newcastle last season at portman rd,but this needs to be happening more frequently before you can tempt the missing thousands back,if the word gets round then bums will return to seats thats why the next manager is so important, for me its more about the style of football...
the Ipswich way please for those old enough to remember

Family of 5 attending on Saturday not because of price but because MM is gone and new era beginning . Think this is a get out from the club to explain why the gate has gone up as soon as MM goes ?

Promising sales so far.Looks like attendance should top 20k for the first time since the local derby back in October.

Bigger crowds = more income for club, and more atmosphere.

Also the weather is warmer;so get on down to Portman Rd,to join us diehards;who have been there through thick and (mostly)thin, during the bleak winter of discontent !

Can TWTD + all other contributors stop showing MCcarthy in an Ipswich town shirt, it turns my considerable stomach.

This ticket promotion must have been underway before MM departed. It would be interesting to know how many seats were sold before last Tuesday. What was the attendance last time a similar promotion ran? The upsurge in demand is very encouraging.

Glad we of ITFC Sweden chose this match for our annual pilgrimage, altho' we didn't know its significance at the time. Everyone who purports to be a fan should get down to PR and give Mr Ipswich (aka Klug) their support if they possibly can. COYB!

Hardly a massive upsurge though is it, with a lot of tickets no doubt flogged for £1.

Anything less than 22,000 I think is very, very poor to be honest.

Got to disagree Currie , anything around 20 k mark would be decent given we have had some crowd levels around 10 k in the ground (stated as 13k) so whatever the number and will all know it,s the lower one a uplift of 7 or 10 k fans is a big leap , and all of those are not going to be kids for a quid so there must be returning adults in the mix , and no surprise there , but the narrative will be it,s this kids that bolstered the numbers as the club won,t say it,s beacuase a release of the manager has caused it to any degree , but once again i think most will conced it is a factor.

Each to their own mate but our general crowd has been say 15,000 including away this season based on around 600 or so away people.

Villa therefore was always going to be in the 16s to start with.

Sure, we'll have some returning adults.

Yes, seasons over / done / however given the blubfest on here about McCarthy - you'd perhaps feel a good load of people would be returning.

A quick look on the seat map appears that really isn't the case. Shame.

I still think it's bloody poor.

The club have done deals in the past couple of years when McCarthy was in charge but were still not taken up this includes the being able to buy further tickets for a tenner promotion. This is a positive and clearly the fact Mick has gone people are going to start coming back. This is a good start by the club but the owner still needs to dig deep with our next manager appointment AND funds.

Currie10 I get what you're saying to a point however we all know the figures given for home games are dramatically over exaggerated because they are including approx 3000 season ticket holders that haven't regularly been going or buying programmes/food/drink etc these season ticket holders i've no doubt (Including myself) will return, I also think a lot of fans including myself are still skeptical over Marcus Evans and the normal propaganda we get each close and preseason regarding spending and players we're linked with. I had a huge issue with McCarthy and his football to be honest but I also have an issue with where the club is going and the supposed "Five point plan" under Evans im guessing this is a step forwards maybe we will see.

I like the way it's trying to infer the attendance will be up due to the kids for a quid offer and not because we all have hope now and want to see entertaining football
Onwards and upwards 😀
