Updated: McCarthy’s Future to Be Clarified "Well in Advance" of Early Bird Deadline
Monday, 26th Mar 2018 11:30

Town owner Marcus Evans will clarify manager Mick McCarthy’s future "well in advance" of the Monday 30th April early bird deadline for purchasing season tickets, the club has revealed.

Earlier today, the Blues confirmed that the price of 2018/19 season tickets purchased prior to the deadline have been reduced by 10 per cent but many fans have made it clear they won’t make up their minds whether to renew until they know whether McCarthy, whose contract is up at the end of the season, will be staying in charge or there will be a change at the Portman Road helm. After the deadline prices increase significantly.

The club subsequently released a tweet indicating that news will come before the deadline date.

The club later added further thoughts from Evans on the situation from a letter which will go out to season ticket holders.

“As I’m sure you are aware, Mick’s contract is up at the end of the season and I’m fully aware that there will be supporters who will be waiting to see how that situation develops," the Blues owner writes.

“I continue to have a very good relationship with Mick. We talk regularly and we will sit down and discuss the best way forward for this football club in the next few weeks. And that is the sole concern for me - what is best for Ipswich Town.

“Supporters will know the result of that conversation in due course but it will be made public well in advance of the early bird deadline.”

Looking at the club’s position more widely, Evans added: “Although the league is a different prospect now from when I first invested in the club more than 10 years ago, I remain as determined as ever to see Ipswich Town back in the Premier League.

“In the next few weeks I will be outlining my thoughts in detail on how we can best go about achieving that in an interview which all supporters will have access to.”

That interview is expected to be the first time Evans has spoken on camera since taking over at Portman Road just over a decade ago.

Whatever happens there will be a group of so called fans who will be destructively critical of whoever takes over ,whoever joins the club and however owns it Individual who are so obsessed with their own opinions that they have lost any sense of reality Would they put large sums of their money into the club.? Would they be able to manage ant better / The only thing they are good at is being critical ,in some cases virtually abusive and apparently most of the time down right depressed How sad they are if that's how they see life

@ Van_Blue GOOD CALL

Ref: Maurice Steijn article:

He sounds like the type of manager we need, let the opposition worry about us, used to working on a restrictive budget.

@Mickszzztactics
You missed:

- Is Evans the one who year after year treated the cup competitions with utter contempt and therefore denying potential 'big' cup games, indeed a fourth round FA Cup tie to ANY team, to the long suffering fans??? No Evans is not!!!

If the club changed the manager they wouldn't need to drop prices to sell season tickets. I fear that this is a sign that McCarthy will be here next season.

Van Blue .Like Delia etc have also read the interview with Maurice Stejin, and it makes very good reading. He believes in youth, good attitude blokes, concentrating on how you play, and letting the opposition worry about you. Also operating on a small budget, and keen to try his luck abroad.

Think he would make an ideal fit as Manager of Ipswich Town, perhaps Arnold, Frans ,Martyn and Romeo, could put in a good word.Lets hope Marcus agrees and has read the article. He would be much better than that other Dutchman, Steve whats his name lol.

Oh,and Robin Van Persie, who is a friend of Maurice will be leaving Turkish club in summer by all accounts, and we need a big centre forward although I know he is 34.Just saying

My reading is that Mick McCarthy will stay hence the phrase "..... what is best for Ipswich Town". Irrespective of what some fans or the local press think. ME believes he knows best and I will be surprised if MM leaves having read this piece.

so what is the point of an early bird deadline in a half full stadium, how about they scrap this nonsense and just actually reduce the bloomin prices end of, it will not make a jot of difference as there will be no investment from the owners anyway

Good. Evans should finally show his face. This "pay no attention to man behind the curtain" schtick is old. We need to see faces. If he gives a crap about this club, he needs to bridge the divide with the fans. Show up or sell up.

I would prefer a manager from the lower English leagues. Paul Tisdale tops my wish list.

Edmindo
I did see the Look East interview with Milne and was absolutely astounded to hear him say the reason why we had not played such entertaining football was that teams seem to have set up to stop us playing,
My mistake Mr Milne...and there is me thinking playing 5 defenders and 3 holding midfielders was a major contributor...silly me !!!

Obviously I don't watch Look East living down here so it's interesting to see that interview with Mr Milne... what a pathetic individual. He obviously doesn't know the first thing about football and I cannot understand what on earth he is doing as the MD of our club? bluesfan_whatever, is your first name Ian?
