Updated: McCarthy’s Future to Be Clarified "Well in Advance" of Early Bird Deadline
Monday, 26th Mar 2018 11:30

Town owner Marcus Evans will clarify manager Mick McCarthy’s future "well in advance" of the Monday 30th April early bird deadline for purchasing season tickets, the club has revealed.

Earlier today, the Blues confirmed that the price of 2018/19 season tickets purchased prior to the deadline have been reduced by 10 per cent but many fans have made it clear they won’t make up their minds whether to renew until they know whether McCarthy, whose contract is up at the end of the season, will be staying in charge or there will be a change at the Portman Road helm. After the deadline prices increase significantly.

The club subsequently released a tweet indicating that news will come before the deadline date.

The club later added further thoughts from Evans on the situation from a letter which will go out to season ticket holders.

“As I’m sure you are aware, Mick’s contract is up at the end of the season and I’m fully aware that there will be supporters who will be waiting to see how that situation develops," the Blues owner writes.

“I continue to have a very good relationship with Mick. We talk regularly and we will sit down and discuss the best way forward for this football club in the next few weeks. And that is the sole concern for me - what is best for Ipswich Town.

“Supporters will know the result of that conversation in due course but it will be made public well in advance of the early bird deadline.”

Looking at the club’s position more widely, Evans added: “Although the league is a different prospect now from when I first invested in the club more than 10 years ago, I remain as determined as ever to see Ipswich Town back in the Premier League.

“In the next few weeks I will be outlining my thoughts in detail on how we can best go about achieving that in an interview which all supporters will have access to.”

That interview is expected to be the first time Evans has spoken on camera since taking over at Portman Road just over a decade ago.

While I have not been Micks biggest fan re his 0-0 policy especially at home and his neglect of obvious talent at the club just to give the chosen few a shoe in start in every game(not forgetting his foul mouthed attitude towards the fans) this latest FAUX PAS from above has shown what a complete and utter mess this club of ours is in!! stop peeing on everyone Marcus and get the whole thing sorted A.S.A.P we the fans deserve better and as a human being so does Mick.

Worrying. Sounds to me like Evans wants to keep MM otherwise a decision would have been made long ago. Seems to me he wants to buy some time a) a couple of easier looking games which we could win so Evans can justify MM staying and b) perhaps see how many season tickets are sold ... if folk do renew to a decent number then he may well keep him on.

Personally I won't renew until he's gone.

10% is a good start! But like most on here, I want MM to go and football to come back to our club. It is not difficult, just get the ball down on the pitch and pass it. There, that was easy wasn't it?

@SuffolkBoy

You must be what is known as pretty "slow learner" aren't you matey??? (sarcasm!)
:-) lol :-)

Despite most likely having bothered to read the reactions to your very optimistic but also unmistakable vitriolic (towards the Anti-MM'ers) & unmistakable cherry-picking MM friendly (as in reciting several so called "Unfortunate" things hampering Mick but seeing absolutely no wrongs or evils being done on his own stubborn & spiteful part?!) post from Mick's "We Deserved to Take Something From Game" latest post game interview ...here you go again today with MORE OF THE SAME?!

For instance...

1) Once again respectfully & elegantly (and thus without no detectable shred of sarcasm!) referring to fans of a different persuasion as them "Moronic Moaners"?!
Very classy indeed... but like I told you the last time (and told others of your super fine ilk before): You are all apparently STILL oblivious to the little fact that constantly biaaaacthing about OTHER people "moaning", regardless of whether said OTHER people are doing it for perfectly justifiable reasons or not, is in and of itself clearly "moaning" also Sherlock! and thus basically makes you a "Moronic Moaner" too! Period!

2) Once again blabbering on about them by you inferred PURELY DOWN TO UNFATHOMABLE BAD LUCK many injuries of ours , as some sort of 'De Facto Alibi' for nearly anything unsatisfactory going on on the field as well as with with Mick and his poor dispositions, when in reality and exactly as I told you (and others using the same excuse over and over) last time:

EVERY team has injuries!!!!!!!!! Sometimes to their most pivotal players, sometimes not.
(I think someone pointed out that Bristol City had upwards of 10 players missing in the last match!) However please remove them seriously bluetinted glasses Ladies & Gents and thus REALIZE that there are several "You Reap What You Sow" factors abound with MM and his team that imho can go a long in explaining at least part of OUR injury phenomena/influx!

Mick has always signed MANY "Injury Prone" labeled players in his time here!!!
Alas... don't be at all surprised or even call it "BAD LUCK" when in the current squad the likes of: Didz, Adeyemi, Mustapha, Huws goes down, or like our own academy product Bish, simply can't stay out of the infirmary for very long ....as SADLY there clearly was obvious good reason & good hindsight in the fact that the vast majority of our league competitors didn't wholeheartedly try to sign/re-sign them or in some reported instances even touch some of them in previous ITFC squad of Mick's (inclunding other "Sickos", "Rejects" & "Cast-offs") with the proverbial "10 foot pole"!!!

And then of course there is the unfortunate cases of players with a very "bumpy playing style" like our Joe Garner for instance ...and by that I mean he is one of those conspicuous "Tumblers"isn't he... spending a LOT of time going to the ground, sometimes undeliberately, sometimes not though!!! In any event advocating such a rough playing style as his, "knocks" will simply tend to come a lot more easy. In other words him not being remotely a 100% or directly unavailable at times is more or less also "to be expected" and does certanily not constitutes "BAD LUCK" either.

And lastly there is the *mythical* training, which by & large doesn't seem to benefit ANYONE in ANY positive way including the injury prone ormerely currently injured ones, who as we have seen innumerous times during the MM & TC reign finally return to 1st team action only to mind-boggling quickly get themselves re-injured again?!

So to sum it up: Ehhhhh what realistically speaks for any one, except Andre Dozzel I guess, among them often injured CREATIVE players we are curently missing so so badly, not getting injured one or more times *again* during (or even before!) the 2018/2019 season??? Simply put nearly all of them were labelled "Injury Prone" for a reason BEFORE this here season ...and now their awesome CV will read "Injured for either the entire or large chunks of 2017/2018" too???
Naaah If they somehow stay healthy in the future... GREAT!!! but if you ask me well then don't bother hanging your hat ...or your slime hope rather! on that particular aspect of the proverbial 'Bigger Picture' changing ITFC's overall promotion hunting "fortunes" anytime soon.

PS: Ohhh and regarding them seriously talented youths you much more rightly also keep on mentioning we happen to have on our books, is there ANY credible evidence whatsoever to suggest Mick, was he to stay on, would use them less SCARCELY than in previous Dino led season ...UNLESS his hand is directly forced??? Sorry, but noooo there ain't!

Thought I'd share my twitter post with you.

10% off Season Tickets is all very well and good but it doesn't compensate for the 90% drop in the standard of play over the past five years!!!

airliner added 19:19 - Mar 26
This is a pivotal moment, MM has done a good job given the money given to him. It's the owner Marcus Evans that should hang his head , he wanted this cheap way of getting promoted . It ha not worked . The blame is totally at ME s door not Micks. Shame on you Marcus for waking up too late to stop the rot!

I await my season ticket application with interest, especially as it will be nice to hear from the owner for a change;as he doesn't even bother to go AGM's.

Like many can't see why the delay about Managers future, especially as many like me will wait and see what happens re McCarthy before renewing.

However must get in quickly to tell club to hold fire on renewals,as mine done automatically normally;so will cancel my d/d ftb.

This is the only way we can instill on Marcus that he had better get a move on with decision on the Manager, and if he dares to keep him on then it will hit his pocket.

Says will make it known before Early Bird deadline, which last year I recall was extended
Hope it wont be necessary this year,as we shall know that 'Ol big Head' is on his way !

I must admit to being a Mick remainer in terms of what he has achieved on such limited resources. However, WWBlue18 makes a valid point about Mick's confrontational rhetoric towards ITFC supporters and his gratuitous use of foul language in the public domain. Part of the proud tradition of ITFC is the excellent reputation in respect of public relations. Mick may not have lost the Changing Room but I fear he has lost most of the Stadium

itsonlyme added 20:31 - Mar 26
Well said blueparadigm! I think most loyal supporters agree that MM has done a decent job considering the budget, however what we can't put up with is the dross disguised as football, of which there is no excuse.

this is just another crock of s##t , REGARDLESS, of McCarthy's fate. The decision has obviously been made one way or the other, season ticket deal revealed , so just announce the managerial position. I want McCarthy out but either way no point in holding back. Evans really hasn't grasped the problems at all ,and I fear will bumble and blunder into another mire. Best news would be that in the event he cant or wont seriously invest, he will sell up .Seems to be one farce after another ..

Currie 10 I agree I think MIlne's comment was based on the thought that mathematically we would be safe, but are still not, so they are buying more time to see if we get there. Unfortunately with MM and the teams performance it might not even be by the end of April

We will be told based on both when we are not to be relegated and in/not in the play off's. Finally if season ticket sales are low before this time it will clearly show that all the talk of previous seasons about not renewing and waiting for a new manager is more prominent then previous seasons and this will be ME trigger to bring in a fresh management team, which as we all know will go up or down.

I for one am not afraid of change and the pessimistic view to be careful what you wish for. I think we should fully grasp the chance to try something new and maybe just maybe we will all be happy that we have, because for one if the football returns and even if we are higher up the league and even dare I wish for a top 6 finish if not in one but two or three seasons. Is it not improvement we want first, visions of football on the pitch, and then build one step at a time.

Facefacts added 22:19 - Mar 26
Confusing. Why would ME discuss the future with MM if he was letting MM go? Only makes sense if he's trying to persuade him to stay, so they're discussing a contract extension.

Bert added 00:05 - Mar 27
I doubt that the release of season ticket prices was a mistake. It was probably put out there to test the water and help Evans make the decision he needs to. Whilst reaction on here is small in numbers against all supporters it is a signal of intent i.e. MM stays and season tickets holders go down.

Mick too blunt for Suffolk folk, did his best on peanuts, but has now run his course.
Young up and coming players from the Academy are our future added to some fine buys by MM?

RoyalAscotBlue added 09:36 - Mar 27
Another poll on EADT...

Over 2.5k people have voted so far. 55% have said that they welcome the reduction in prices, BUT ONLY IF MCCARTHY IS GONE!

The phrase, “shall I draw you a picture” springs to mind but I'm starting to believe that Mr Evans is actually blind as he must have had a few pictures put in front of him over the last couple of years and he hasn't seen a single one.

Personally don't believe Evans , MM or the club are getting the fact that a number of supporters have turned away due to the football on display . It is not about the cost , not about not winning or challenging at the top ,it is about the dire approach to games all MM teams have of anti football , stopping the opposition at all costs . Picking defensive minded players of attack minded .
Agree MM has had a small budget compared to other teams but all teams are up against that , that doesn't alter the mind set of how to play football or approach games .Think Evans was under the belief everyone would be happy with the price drop and get their tickets , I would pay more if it meant MM gone .

Those complaining about injuries for the third year in a row spoiling MMs plans, Dozzell aside who has been injured Dids, Huws , Adeymi, Bishop all players with a long injury record why did we sign them ? £1 million on a player who averages 12 games a season over his career and Warnock was wasn't willing to take a chance on ?
If he had everybody fit he wouldn't play them Skuse , Connelly and Hyam above Downes , Ward , Celina says it all . MM wont ever change because in his mind he does nothing wrong ever , if you cannot learn from mistakes you cannot change

@airliner (plus even those known to be of a very similar specific conviction here)

Apologies to the rest of you, but I feel *strangely* compelled to contribute with yet another loooongwinded input, BECAUSE ehmmm how exactly is the blame for certain aspects of this "rot" like for instance the for long very steady fan mutiny quote "TOTALLY at Marcus Evans's door and not [even partly] at Micks"???

- Does the utterly football clueless Evans pick out for signing this fabulous collection of premium 'Proper Blokes' (plus the very ODD raw gem!), among whom way *too many* during these fabulous McCarthy years were/are either A) woefully injury prone ...and sadly just as the most recent among them Muzzy, by & large living up to that particular labeling! B) Other teams cast-offs ...for a very good reason!, or C) of course simply just someone 'Proper Blokeish' who somehow -- ohhh having played for Wolves, Sunderland or even being Irish helps a bit in this regard! lol -- is very dear to the Dino's heart but who very likely would have serious trouble getting a starting job elsewhere in this league (with the possible exception of at Burton maybe! lol)??? No Evans does not!!!

- Does Evans pick this both heavily favorized-laden starting XI (i.e. with several "Undroppables" who play EVERYTIME regardless of performance, unless injured or suspended!) and then not only plays several of them out of their "natural & best position" but very often indoctrinates the lot of them to set up in a UNMISTAKABLE wimpy & plain negative hedgehog-like type of formation (with in reality anywhere from 7 to 9 players "defending". Well in our biggest game of the season against arch rivals Norwich it sadly looked mostly like it was 10 actually!) which EVENTUALLY will fed up and drive away even some of the most stoic & very oldest longtime fans??? No Evans does not!!!

- Does Evans makes these either 1) way too often thoroughly undaring or unsound substitutions [innumerous examples to pick among but personally I'm ever soooo fond of
the one where "The Perennial Game Changer" a.k.a. Snooze Doggy Douglas inexplicably comes on instead of for instance a buzzing Andre Dozzell in a certain crucial game we were losing 0-2 in 2016/17!!!] ...or 2) just mind-boggling LATE, as in practically TOO LATE! much needed substitutions, that in & of themselves are also driving many ITFC fans nuts??? No Evans does not!!!

- Is Evans the one, outside on rare public occasions referring to his pretty hollow-sounding 5-Point-Plan obviously, who REPEATEDLY talk-up & talk a lot of steam about
our so called "Talented and/or creative-minded youths" ...ONLY to wind up deciding to loan them out to quote "Get better elsewhere" (instead of right here at 'going-nowhere' ITFC?!) or else just using them very sparingly, thus most often either because his hand was forced due to injuries to some among his darlings OR as we have also seen on more than one occasion in recent times: For pure spite?! ...towards them inferred retarded fans who doesn't unconditionally worship him & and his self-perceived masterful dispositions??? No Evans is not!!!

- Is Evans, who clearly might well be guilty of having been quite fan-disrespecting in other ways, the one who CONSTANTLY & VERY EAGERLY opts to not only antagonistically seek some kind of jabbing at the paying customers?! and this in a very verbally profanity-laden way btw, like on all days then on 'SBR Day' last year vs. Newcastle in public referring to the fans pre-game as "Them F@ckers!", but now additionally seek to directly BLAME things on the evergrowing disgruntled part of them fans (and ohhh let's not forget the tried-to-be-swept-under-the-rug infamous "UP YOURS" arm gesture he *also* made on live television at Norwich shall we)??? No Evans is not!!!

- Is Evans the one who fundamentally chose these aforementioned often COWARDLY overall tactics & dispositions, where it basically is all about adjusting to THEM and in sheer hedgehog fashion simply trying to spoil their ways of playing football & above everything else of course: Not losing!!!!!!!!! (Inevitably resulting in among other less-than-positive things = the majority of our 3-pointers thus tending to be of the somewhat clearly fortuitous "NICK IT" (likely from a set piece) kind! ...instead of letting them adjust to & worry about US while we take the field with both an actual set-up & mindset that is evident of the manager actually trying his darn BEST TO WIN-THE-GAME from the very 1st whistle!!!
Which in the case of the former when all is said & done from a NON-RESULTS-FIXATED-ONLY spectators point view mind you!, well winds up being utterly negative, trivially boring & simply more or less a fan-deterrent waste of time & money in the vast majority of cases??? No Evans is not!!!

Bottomline: You can rightly blame the in recent years inherently INDIFFERENT & CHEAP appearing Marcus Evans for a serious LOT of other things to do with the quote "rot" -- and that includes firing Magilton at the time he did, next hiring a whole bunch of "incompetents" and not giving 'Has-Been' Mick the boot a fairly long time ago, say sometime during LAST year's poor run of form which incl. the excruciating double Lincoln humiliation would imho have been extremely justifiable or if you truly are a real "cohones-less" owner then simply immediately after the worst finish in 58 years??? :-) :-) -- but NOT really for all the above-mentioned, sorry!
