Skuse Back in Training and Expected to Be Fit for Hull Trip
Wednesday, 15th Nov 2017 11:03

Midfielder Cole Skuse is back in training and is expected to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Hull City.

Skuse, 31, was substituted in the first half of the 3-0 home victory over Preston North End prior to the international break.

"“Skusey suffered a badly bruised shin and didn’t train last week but he is back out there now and should be in contention for the weekend,” Town physio Matt Byard told the club site.

Midfielder Emyr Huws, 24, is also likely to be with the squad which travels to the KCOM Stadium after playing three U23s matches having recovered from the achilles injury which has prevented him from making a senior appearance so far this season.

Teddy Bishop, 21, played and scored in last Friday’s 2-2 U23s draw at Millwall having undergone groin surgery in August but is probably still a little way off a return to the first-team squad."

At best he's an extra defender. He wins the ball ok but he then gives it away and too often wants to hit it first time hoping it'll find a teammate. He hardly ever turns to look forward.
Time to move on and leave him on the bench.

This reminds me of Geoff Hurst's story about Sir Alf. After scoring his famous World Cup Final hat-trick the England squad said their farewells. Geoff Hurst said to Sir Alf 'see you next match' and Alf replied 'if selected'. Nobody should be guaranteed a starting place, especially when recovering from an injury.

Cannot believe the abuse Skuse is getting on here. We should be supporting all our players. OK he is not premier league but he does tremendous work breaking up opposing attacks and with a defence as s**t as ours this is a big bonus. He has never let the side down and although I admit his forward passing is not as frequent as it should be, when he does pass forward he does have a good eye in picking out one of our players.
Although I cannot wait for the day MM gets out of here, I have to admit that like MM, Skuse is one of my favourites. No nonsense - job done - no fuss.

Have read all the remarks Bert, and I have not seen any sexual innuendo?

I think Skues going off was a positive,as the stats will show;but Huws should come in the team before Skues.I think Connelly doesn't deserve to be dropped, and neither does Kevin Bru in my humble opinion as the end of the 1st half, and all the 2nd was far better than the dire first 35 mins after Skues went off.

I don't think it was a coincidence either, and I agree with most on here that Skues should no longer be an automatic shoo in;but unfortunately he will be as Mick McCarthy Manager.

Tabb , Nouble and Douglas were all scape goats as they were repeatedly picked whilst performing poorly whilst others not given same chance

'Premiership class' according to you know who - we all know there's not one team in that league that would have him as a holding midfielder. He's been unchallenged in that position since he's been here since 2013 and that's criminal in my opinion.

If we were playing 4-2-3-1 then for my money Huws, Ademyi, Downes and Nydam would all be ahead of him for the two.

Supporters of this club should be ashamed by the majority of comments on here.
It embarrasses me that you might consider yourselves fellow fans of this club, and it's players.

The article reads that Skuse is expected to be fit - nothing more. Of course you would anticipate a probable fact to get in the way of some quite nasty posters on here using the opportunity to spread their subjective and at times crude comments. I tend to agree that Skuse may be best deployed from the bench but I would rather rest on MM's judgement than most on here. I am no great fan of MM but no wonder he and the club ignore the minority of loud mouthed people who see abuse as a right.

Wow Skuse really not flavour of the month!

My two cents for what it's worth - having met / spoken to Cole about his role, he's asked to play a very very safe game. He's capable of doing more I feel - have seen him do more at Bristol City, however is doing what's asked.

That said......... is it enough? Are we better without him? 0-0 with, 3-0 with vs PNE for instance.

I wasn't at the ' Kevin Foley show ' vs Nottingham Forest, however many were very happy with how he did that day.

Final point in closing, our ' midfield ' WITH the ball has been an issue for a number of years in my opinion.

Play the 4 strikers at Hull if you are going to play Skuse to hold. Going there to defend with one up top will end in another 1-0 or 2-0 away defeat as always. The only way we are going to have a sniff of the play offs is to do exactly the opposite of what we normally do away from home. Have a go at them and go down fighting 5-3 rather than the usual 'We blinked first' BS and losing without scoring or entertaining.

It embarrasses me that idiots like you and the rest of the 'happy clappy brigade' cant see the wood for the trees and continue to back the destruction of our once great club!
