Hyam Out Until Christmas After Undergoing Knee Surgery
Tuesday, 26th Sep 2017 23:11

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that midfielder Luke Hyam has undergone knee surgery which is expected to keep him sidelined until Christmas.

Hyam, 25, who missed the whole of last season with a knee injury and then damaged ankle ligaments, suffered another knee problem in pre-season.

Having played three U23s matches, the Ipswich-born academy product suffered a setback and has now gone under the knife.

“I spoke to him this morning and he’s had it done,” McCarthy said. “He’s had an ITB, he’s had it released, his iliotibial band that joins his knee. And he’s had a bit of scar tissue removed.

“So hopefully that will cure it and he can get back. But it might be Christmas before he’s back.

“It’s a big year for him, he’s coming out of contract. He needs to get back playing and I’m hoping he will soon.”

I really can't see Hyam getting anywhere near the first team this year or Bishop for that matter. Both even when fit have fallen way down the pecking order. I forget both play for us at times. It's only when I see another injury story or tweet in the style of a 12 year old girl from Bishop that I remember they still exist.

Wow, Hyam is 25 now? It certainly is make or break this season for his football career at PR after two injury hit years. I wish him all the best and hope he can make it back. He was good when he came on the first team scene 4years ago.

Sadly I have to agree with others who say Hyam and Bishop are unlikely to figure for town in the future. Both seem injury prone and at an age when they should be at their peek.
It really is a pity that two promising lads from our academy will probably disappear from the club in the next couple of years probably down the A12 to Colchester.

Going to slightly disagree with you Park - a fully fit Bishop would definitely be in my matchday 14 if playing how he can. Absolute player when on full song.

Hyam however I don't think is as good as what we have, and looks a long road back.

Unfortunately I would release hyam and bishop this summer. Even on Jan if the opportunity was there. I appreciate there talented and home grown etc, but they are a waste and liability if they are always in the treatment room

Sadly has now just become a drain on resources (like Bishop ) and should be released at the first opportunity.

Brutally cynical tweets on here.

We all know how good Bishop can be and i for one want to give him every chance to get back to being one of the talents in this league at least. If you want to get cynical, he could fill the gap next season after Dozza returns from injury early this season, turns it on, and gets a 7-figure deal to go to the Prem.

As for Hyam, there is no one in the Club, and few in the league that can handle the CDM role Skuse manages each week. Hyam would be the natural successor, so give him the chance to show that. Although the score suggests otherwise, my guess is that if Hyam was on the bench last night he would have been Mick's preferred sub when we were at 4-2 and on the rack.

Give them a chance to at least get fit and then judge. COYB

Bish undoubtedly would be back in the squad/team if he gets fit again. Less certain if he has lost that yard of pace.

Once Hyam is fully fit give him till end off the season to see if he still got it... if not send him to league 1 for the season maybe Luton or Colchester if they go up... then decided if we wanna keep him or not.

Bishop on the other hand should stay for a few more years if injury free, or loan him out for game time

Please don't forget that these two are young local lads who, through no fault of their own, have suffered long term injuries.  They are not inanimate chess pieces on a chess board.  They deserve our support just as much as the rest of the team members.  Let's hope they pull through this testing time in their lives and get back to playing the game they love.

Sadly I think Hyam and Bishop's days at town might be over..the constant injuries over such a long period of time are not a very good sign...much like Jonny Williams, great little players on their day but not much use if they spend all their time in the treatment room.

Shame.

Disappointing how a nasty injury that has not healed as well as required ie further surgery can be anything other than disappointing for club and player alike. Given that both of these players are relatively young and have in the past proved their worth can be cast aside so quickly by some. I doubt either of these players are a large drain on the finances and should at least be given the opportunities to fully recover and see what they can do. We are not talking about a couple of cart horses at the end of their time and could as yet prove worthy of being in the team. Let's hope Huw's doesn't come under the same spotlight as he so far has equally shown to be injury prone and Didsy has been over the last year or so.

Time to cash them both in for the insurance money.

Its make your mind up time for Luke and his medical advisors. Sad but it happens.

Football is a brutal business unfortunately and we cannot pay these two for ever to sit in the treatment room.

Bishop was a very good prospect but he needs to prove his ability and fitness all over again in my book. A loan to a lower League club for a while, once fit, has to be the way his career goes.

I have to say I seem to be one of the few who have never really rated Hyam. When he first came on the scene he looked to have real potential but he never progressed and arguably went backwards. Injuries obviously didn't help but I really think he is at the last chance saloon as far as ITFC is concerned.

we should have released hyam and bishop last season, they may do a job at league 2 level certainly not championship standard im afraid and this is not being cynical its based on what they have produced on the pitch, we have youngsters coming through who look brighter on the ball, bishop vastly overrrated i think the 10 million speculation from liverpool few yrs back went to his head tbh

Both of these fully fit are way down the pecking order already. I've already seen Downes produce more in his little time so far than either of them. Not saying they are bad players as I do rate them. We just have better in my humble opinion.

When they came through, I thought that they would be mainstays of our midfield for a decade. Sadly, injuries have hampered progress. I hope that they recover quickly and earn an opportunity to prove themselves.

I feel sorry for the lad, but we can't keep paying out for these injury prone players. Such a shame, but I'm afraid Luke is unlikely to play for us again and hasn't for some time. Contract simply can't be renewed.

....... sad fact is that some players are all too injury prone - a slight twinge, instead of running it off - will always have the treatment room beckoning.

Most people would be quite happy to get paid for doing nothing - few seldom get the chance, but some actually do ... !!

Time to move both these on - maybe to find other less lucrative careers.
