On-loan Blues striker Kieffer Moore netted twice as Rotherham beat Bury 3-2 at home in League One, the 25-year-old taking his tally during his loan spell to six goals in five league starts and one sub appearance.

Moore, who was nominated for the August Player of the Month award, netted in the 20th and 58th minutes to twice give the Millers the lead.

The Shakers pegged them back on both occasions by on-loan Brighton midfielder Richie Towell - a player eyed by the Blues during his time at Dundalk - grabbed a late winner.

Fellow Blue Josh Emmanuel, who like Moore is with Rotherham for the season although with Town able to cut the spells short in January, again missed out with a toe injury.

Speaking following Moore’s Player of the Month nomination, a gong which eventually went to former Blue Jack Marriott who is now with Peterborough, manager Mick McCarthy said: “Brilliant, that’s the reason I sent him out. Let me just clear it up, he’s not as good as Waggy, he’s not as good as Joe Garner, Freddie or Didz.

“We’ve got four really good strikers, as different as they might be, they are all more important to me in this league.

“He was sent there on loan to do exactly what he’s doing. And isn’t that great? I’m delighted for him, I’ve texted him and he’s enjoying it.

“Josh didn’t play last week, he’d got a sore toe, but they’re pleased with them both, it’s great.”

Elsewhere, Adam McDonnell and George Fowler made their second starts for Aldershot as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Dover Athletic in the Vanarama National League.

McDonnell played the full 90 minutes and was named man of the match while Fowler was substituted with four minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, Town’s U18s were beaten 4-0 away at Hull City - who are coached by former Blue Richard Naylor - this morning.

Think he could become a a long term replacement for Murphs, however, if you listen to MM comments it sounds like he isn't going to pick him ahead of our current four strikers, so it's very likely he will be sold on in January which is a real shame for the lad and the club because he does offer something different.

Also stikers need service...and not just aimless 60 yard hoofs. I for one would not sell Kieffer Moore as I believe he brings a presencethat no one else at the club has apart from perhaps Garner, although knowing Mick he will be given away asap

Bart aims al his kicks in his direction but with Moore along side they could do better than with Waggy or Sears. But then again that's part of the problem as Barts kicking isolates our midfield and gives the ball away. But guess he's following orders!

The point to make is our strikers have been scoring though so it's not like he is and ours aren't. Adding to the point that Mick won't play him. He was signed by Mick from non-league so Mick clearly sees something in him. He's only saying he's behind our 4 strikers at the moment which is fair enough and hard to argue that point really.

Bringing him back would have an adverse effect on him - he's doing what he does best, enjoying his football, and will probably do all he can to stay where he is. The garbage of 'playing at a lower level' is just that - natural goal scorers will score at any level - sometimes the higher the level, the better the service provided to such players - and therefore somewhat easier. He would be wasted at Portman Road - just like Waghorn / McGoldrick etc; are / or may well continue to be.

Bert added 22:51 - Sep 12 I don't remember anyone lavishing praise on Moore when MM played him. He was treated in the same manner as Douglas. The MM haters will say anything to justify their loathing of the man. Well done Moore, your boss knows what he is doing with young players out on loan. Listen to him , not the anti brigade.
