Town Linked With Move for Rangers Striker
Wednesday, 24th May 2017 00:57

Town have been linked with a move for Rangers striker Joe Garner.

According the Daily Express, the Blues are ready to make a £500,000 approach for the 29-year-old.

Garner, who moved to Ibrox from Preston for £1.4 million last summer when TWTD understands Town were also keen, is said to be in Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha’s plans, however, he might be tempted to sell as he looks to raise cash in order to rebuild his squad during the close season.

Reports elsewhere claim the Glasgow giants have circulated a list of available players to clubs in England.

Former England U16, U17 and U19 international Garner scored 10 goals in 22 starts and 12 sub appearances during 2016/17 having signed a three-year deal.

Garner started his career with his hometown club Blackburn Rovers but was unable to break into the first team prior to moving on to Carlisle, initially on loan, then Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield (loan), Scunthorpe (loan), Watford and Carlisle for a further loan spell before joining Preston in 2013.

While with the Lilywhites the 5ft 10in tall frontman scored a 20-minute second-half hat-trick as the Lancastrians beat the Blues 3-2 in an FA Cup third round replay at Deepdale in January 2014.

The following season Garner won the League One Player of the Year award as he helped Preston into the Championship via the play-offs.

At least its a striker we are linked with and not a left sided midfield player----but not a very exciting one and my juices certainly are not flowing!!

Most people know that football in Scotland is third rate at best and if a team there wants to get rid of a player he'll be lucky to shine in our league two! (Sorry league 2 ,I don't mean to be disrespectful!)
McCarthy take a leaf out of Moyles book and do the right thing and fall on your sword.
Then we can get a manager in with the mentally of Ajax who will blood good young academy players.

Scottish footy is a pretty poor benchmark in this day and age, really hard to judge anything by it. Kevin Lisbie would prob get the Golden Boot if he played in Scotland lol! ;-) Ok that's pushing things in truth but you get the point. Long are the days of teams in Scotland being a force in Europe such as Celtic and Aberdeen. I'd ideally really want to see a player in Scotland pulling up trees before seriously considering signing them up.

Norwich looking to get the B.Dortmund U23 manager in according to local press here in Sunny NorF**K, seems bit random but I bet he'll be more progressive in his style of play than Mick Mugabe! Hopefully it's an experiment that sounds good on paper but will fail miserably in reality, we can but hope! ;-)

When he was at preston he looked ok at times But he's hardly had a good season at Rangers against 3rd tier teams so not for me. Until MM goes we'll never look further afield as suggested above

Good player but is he any better than Pitman!!
Still need another striker if we sign Garner. Sears, McGoldrick & Moore isn't enough to have upfront to have a good start to the season.

Seen him play a couple of times. Below average player.

Jason Cummings at Hibs looks decent but would cost a big fee, is younger & hungrier than most and has pace so doesn't sound like a MM player.

Garner was good at Preston but hasn't pulled up trees at Rangers. Apparently Mick has the skills to rejuvenate strikers though. He either plays them out of position for 18 months, falls out with them & tells us they won"t be picked again or says they have been different class when they have been injured for 2 seasons & hardly scored a goal.

Is the cricket on yet..

@DirtyDingus

I thought you quote "never bother to read ANY" of my post dearest @dirtydingus, as among innumerous other recent super cute & super valid rambling reasons you don't have the inferred hour-long "time" .... Alas on the surface at the very least it does appear like you are not only beginning to contradict yourself now but basically have been 'Telling Porkies' here on TWTD doesn't it now??? :-) lmao!

And I've to add that you do seem like having acquired a mentally unhealthy obsession with me & my inputs lately as in you apparently finding it 200% **IMPERATIVE** to repeatedly and with alarming regularity flat out "character assassinate" me & my inputs in public!!! with your delightful unmistakably ultra demeaning & lately personally insulting ANALOGUES etc..

But if you think that said nasty analogues etc. will fundamentally make me stop writing what the hellll I feel like + at whatever darn **detailed** length I personally feel like! impulsively or otherwise, well you are sadly mistaken @dirtydingus!

Don't really get what this here very loud 'MZT Agenda' of yours might possibly else be about .... other than quite obviously you nowadays also seeking to childishly score a few cheap & very below-the-belt **Brownie Points** with some of your fellow "literary limited" and/or utterly humorless and/or MZT-judgmentally semi-deliberately misinterpreting TWTD brethren! ....particularly since your apparently cannot figure out to:

1) simply set your TWTD configuration to ignore my inputs on your end
2) alternatively in the true literal sense opt not to read ANY of my inputs
3) or simply succumb to just systematically down-vote my inputs, aye including without either even reading them at all! or else not reading & grasp them PROPERLY! ... and then (pretty much like a notable amount of other members who can't stand my guts fairly often 'SILENTLY' do) leave it at that???!!!

....I tell you what you dearest @dirtydingus, as you imho not only clearly seem to additionally basically not "Know Your Limitations" (to use an awesome vintage macho Insp. Harry Callahan quote lol) and last but not least your inherently contemptible utter lack of 'ETIQUETTE' is beginning to annoy me just slightly, ehmmmm why don't you just accept my sensational offer here:

Of treating you to a niiiice 'cup of tea', soothing herbal with a twist of 'MDMA/Ecstasy' I'd in mind LOL (or classic Earl Grey if you prefer) sometime real real soon some place central in Ipswich whereby you get the distinct opportunity to demean & 'character-assassinate' me all you like straight **to my face** .... plus of course possibly also exclusively witness for yourself how capable I really am of quote "quickly clearing a place", being it one way or another! i.e. including ventilating my armpits & letting out intestinal gas??? :-) smile :-)

We have a player under contract(although not a proper bloke because he questions our defensive set up) called Pitman who would get a shed load of goals in an attack minded formation and proper service from midfield to his feet in the box, but that would mean a starting X1 without the at best sideways passing or worse putting the back four under impossible pressure(bet Berra is glad he's out of his way!!) for ninety minutes Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Micks stonewall favourite the premiership class Cole Skuse who like our great leader appears immoveable for heavens sake get rid of both and let us have our football club back that used to play proper football!!!!!!

Micks zzz tactics. My God, your rambling, pretentious, tedious posts make me want to zzz. Why don't you take the summer off? Please.

The only thing having the summer off it seems Geddis is Marcus Evans' rusty cheque book ;-)

everyone must follow the dictators way of life bing or he'll write up a book on how he's right and your wrong!!!! You seem to get very angry or upset if anyone says anything about your posts. Youre going on about contradictory when you slate mick for stuff you write. Now pal unless you want a proper discussion rather than a write up I suggest you get off your high horse and accept sometimes you're wrong. Not saying you ar this time
Quite frankly couldn't giv amonkeys. I see your post then another post addressing somebody. I think oh right someone's spoke up is niles or best lol

Joke Garner! About as exciting as when we signed Nigel Reo-Joker! ;-)
He really was a joker as when he signed for us he said we were sleeping giants! Well all I can say you Reo-Joker is it's hard to wake up when Marcus Evans' cheque book has been hibernating ever since the exit of Roy "Not So" Keane!

Know I got down-marked for my previous post but I stand by it. I do believe that Garner is a better player to play up front than Kiefer Moore, Dom Samuel, a returning Murphy or Mackail-Smith. To take stats from this site:

Moore - 11 appearances. 0 goals. average rating:4.43
Samuel: 6 appearances. 0 goals. Average rating: 4.64
Murphy: perhaps why people marked me down? He's had 14 games for Newcastle and scored 5 goals. Sorry, but feel age is against him (34), which is why Garner seems a better prospect.
Mackail-Smith : 22 appearances for Luton and Peterborough this season: 5 goals. Age also against him (33).

Garner: 20 appearances for Rangers: 7 goals and only just turned 29. Seems a better prospect up front IMO.

@leahcar88

LOL! So how long have you really been waiting "to get back at me"??? .... That is after I earlier this year took you & your own completely unreasonable and not the least UNSUBSTANTIATED personal assault (among other utterly ludicrous things accusing me of "Mickism", even back then?!) 'To The Cleaners' so to speak -- well to the best of my knowledge you didn't even bother/attempt to try to defend yourself afterwards, which I at the time found very telling! -- thus with me more or less proving things you said in that personal assault to either simply be unsubstantiated as in factually false!, using some very poor & very misguided choice of words! or else for some curious and strange reason (some form of dyslexia maybe? no offense intended) grossly misinterpreting me & my general stances and inputs here to the absolute EXTREME!

Well I'm sort of going out on a limp here :-) by presuming that based on your username you MIGHT be a female (named Leah) .... and regarding female H@mo Sapiens I'm confident that you at some point in your life must have heard the old saying:
Hell hath no fury like a woman "scorned"!
.... and if you are not a female ohhhhh well I guess you get my drift all the same dear :-)

PS: My constitutional like defending-myself related posts are BTW fundamentally not about who is right and who is wrong, dear, but rather mostly about all-embracing **ETIQUETTE**! (aye even on something as banal as a public chat-board lol), about proclaiming one thing then doing another, and of course about making utterly unsubstantiated personal allegations of a unmistakably **unsarcastic** nature!!! as in a clearly demeaning & 'character assassinating' nature!!!

LOL to you too matey! :-)... as you cute little immensely "necessary" and I swear lmao! never never never before seen-the-likes-of Anti-Mzt post here, just flat out PROVES the vast majority of my pov!, past & present ones including many of those just addressed earlier to @dirtydingus above not the least those in the middle numbered 1) 2) and 3), on this seemingly endlessly über exciting TWTD subject of lately not merely my Zzzz inputs in and by themselves but additionally now also my person?!

@PJIAG

Very nice player comparison there @PJIAG ... and a solid argument worth taking into consideration for sure!

PS: And many thanx for you apparent personal support too btw :-)
Beware though it MIGHT come at pretty steep price though, as it's not exactly popular to see things from my angle i.e. me the "ANTI-flavour of the Month" :-)
