Town Among Clubs Linked With Swindon Skipper
Wednesday, 10th May 2017 14:43

Town, QPR, Charlton, Rotherham and Portsmouth are all reported to be keen on Swindon captain Nathan Thompson.

The 26-year-old, a centre-half or right-back, is out of contract and is likely to leave the County Ground on a free transfer this summer following the Robins’ relegation to League Two, with the Blues and the other four clubs among those showing interest, according to Sky Sports News.

Chester-born Thompson, who is 5ft 9½in tall, came through the youth system at Swindon and has made 173 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring four goals, since breaking into the first team in 2010/11.

Spence and Smith are Div 1 standard at best, still I suppose that's where we are heading

Never seen him play. Swindon were terrible so it wouldn't be too hard to stand out for them. I don't mind getting freebies like this to use as squad players though. We need a complete squad rebuild, so only the key players will cost us a bit of money.

We will have a list of potential targets (or we should have). If this guy is 4th or 5th on the list of right-sided defenders, we may have asked a question. Spence is possibly 2nd or 3rd on the list otherwise we'd have tied him up before now. More likely Thomson's agent has asked the question of us as Berra has left the building. If we haven't said no, then in agent speak 'we are interested'. Anyhow, I thought MM was on holiday.

not that I am being judgemental in anyway but some people may make snap decisions about his footballing ability considering he got relegated to league 2 " he might just be a bit sh!t...."

I assume everyone that's negatively commented has all seen the lad play and so can offer an opinion based on their true opinion rather than not having a clue about it.

5'9 for a CB seems way too small and un Mick like, so can only assume he'd play RB and therefore only come if Spence doesn't.

I don't have a clue why anyone has an issue with signing lower league players, it by no means writes them off and doesn't mean they won't be a success here.

Some poster commented he's apparently Swindon's best player by a mile, no issue!

Gareth McAuley supposedly wasn't good enough as Leicester went down. That's despite the year they went down they had a superb defensive record.

If he does join, good luck.

Can't imagine we can expect to get players of League Two calibre from now on : whatever happened to the Beazer Homes League?
