Milne: Stay With Mick
Wednesday, 18th Jan 2017 10:54

Town MD Ian Milne has urged fans to “stay with” manager Mick McCarthy and his team, despite last night’s humiliating FA Cup exit at Lincoln City.

Supporters have reacted angrily to the 1-0 defeat at Sincil Bank, only the Blues' second FA Cup defeat to non-league opposition since they joined the Football League, Peterborough United having won 3-2 in the third round at Portman Road in 1960.

In a statement to BBC Suffolk, Milne said: "Over the two matches Lincoln City were clearly the better organised team. That resulted in them deserving to win and we should, and have, congratulated them.

"We clearly did not perform to the standard we can do and an example of that is the good win we got against Blackburn last Saturday.

"However, nobody in the squad takes any pleasure in producing that type of football in front of our great away fans or indeed to the wider television audience.

"As usual Mick had been honest in his after-match comments and I have nothing to add to that regarding the game.

"I would add that over the last few days we have added players to the squad and we have bids in for others.

"So in these difficult times we would ask our fans to stay with Mick and the boys as we make improvements to the squad and get our injured players match fit, as our aim is to return to winning, entertaining football as we started to do against Blackburn."

Why give this idiot anymore publicity. He clearly has no understanding how hurt fans are feeling this morning. Why no Headline that Butcher and Pundits slam Towns performance. Unfortunately the local press and to a certain extent TWTD are in the pockets of the current owners of ITFC. No doubt they enjoy the hospitality on match days on the basis that they don't rock the boat. They need to choose between their own needs and those of the fans and lifelong supporters of ITFC. Has neither the B****s to Print a headline that "Fans want McCarthy Out". or are they afraid they will have to sit with us long suffering fans in our overpriced seats rather than the Directors or Press Box. Both the EADT and TWTD have the power in their hands to force the issue. I doubt either has the ***** to do anything.

We have stuck with MM far more patiently than any other group of supporters would have done, already! Things are getting worse and IM, it appears, cannot see this! As a committed (I should be!) supporter and season ticket holder, it upsets me to hope town get a 7-0 thrashing at the weekend and then IM might wake up to reality! Something must change - and very quickly.

If MM & TC were sacked, and i woill argue they shouldn't be,the compensation would equated to a couple of decent signings.Relegation would be likely as this team isn't good enough.Keep MM & TC,get 3 decent signings in,get the youth playing and there's an outside chance of the play-off's.Before you hit the negative arrow, there really is a chance.Further, the personal attacks, some of which overstep the mark, shouldn't be on this forum.MM ,TC & Milne have provided a sensible approach and ME should be praised for his money already spent, note NOT invested, spent, never to be seen again. Now hit the negative button as it will make you feel better.Personally,i think ITFC have hit roak bottom and things will improve.Keep the faith,i will.

As non of the so called people that run our (dare I say) football club will read any of these comments, the only way is to flood them with proper letters to the club door. I for one will not be attending another game while MM sits in the stadium.
Send them letters not comments on here that will never be seen.

Last night was not a blip we have been watching these type of perfomance for montha and months at Portman Road.
Maybe Ian Milne could allow season ticket holders to stop their direct debits until improvement happens on the pitch or until the owner sacks the clueless manager . This would show some commitment from the club to repay the commitment of the fans if he is so confident that the new signings will change things...........i won't hold my breath.
I think that Marcus Evans, Ian Milne and Mick McCarthy won't be happy until we are in Lincoln's position ......... if he does not get the sack after last night then we will be stuck with him till his contract runs out

Absolute joke, no we won't stick with Mick. New signings are needed but more so are new management, any idiot can see that. Grow some balls and make the changes needed or look forward to low crowds in league 1

Are you for real..Jonathan Pearce & countless had it summed up within 20 minutes..no direction, ball just lumped into channels & players unsure what style we were playing, yet you, you silly old fool can't see this 4 years later.
Only 2 players ( Lawrence & emmanuel) looked like they wanted it last night & actually looked to play some football & could pass the thing

Anger isn't the word for this!
I have followed this wonderful club for over forty years, through thick and thin, high and low. When my twin girls were born 16 years ago I phoned the club to register them as supporters before I phoned my parents to say they were born!
Last night when the chant went up "You're getting sacked in the morning" the camera panned to McCarthy and the look of total arrogance on the man's face said it all. Arms folded with a smug 'I don't care look'
Well.....WE care, US the supporters that love the club. To you its just a job, not that I'm sure you'll get many offers when (and I mean when) the so called owners of this club see the sense and sack you. I am so embarrassed at the moment to call myself a fan...but I am and I will, long after your sorry arse is gone.
Give us back our Ipswich, give us a young manager that is hungry for success and is not afraid to try new styles and new ideas.
MILNE AND EVANS....DON'T GIVE US EXCUSES, DON'T TELL US TO GET BEHIND A MAN THAT HAS LOST THE PLOT, GIVE US HOPE IN THE SHAPE OF A YOUNG MANAGER THAT IS HUNGRY FOR WINS. DANNY COWLEY DOESN'T LOOK A BAD BET AT THIS MOMENT DOES HE!

I guess it is fair to say that MM isn't gonna walk - why would he? You wouldn't quit your job if you were doing terrible, you need the money. And ME won't sack him because it will expensive. Presumably that leaves it to the fans to protest at the way our once proud club has been turned in to a boring, expensive to watch joke.

Finally, I wouldn't want 'anyone but Mick'. I feel with someone like Mowbray (whom I respect) we might go down. It does seem Mick knows how to grind out just enough draws etc to stay up. Great, but no one wants to waste their money on that, and it leads nowhere. New manager needed, but the right one.

Thank God we've already reached 34 points because looking at our remaining fixtures (presumably under the current management team) I think we'll struggle to reach 50 points this season - hopefully that'll be enough to keep us afloat?

Hmmm "Good Things Come In Three" I've heard, so let's see on top of my little depressed head I can recall the following truly 'globally themed' extraordinary special occurrences when it comes to Sports:
First in 1951 we had the historic so called "SHOT HEARD AROUND THE WORLD" (Bobby Thomson's dramatic Home Run wins US Baseball's National League Pennant for the NY Giants after they had trailed the LA Dodgers by an seemingly insurmountable 13½ games), then in 1991 we had the even more imho unlikely so called "SLIDE HEARD AROUND THE WORLD" (Sid Bream wins US Baseball's National League Pennant for Atlanta Braves with him capping an entirely miraculous final inning by scoring the winning run all the way from 2nd base on a bloop single despite probably being the absolute slowest bumped-knees impaired player in the entire league! PS: And yours truly was there btw!) .......... and then fast-forward to January 17, 2017 and we thus had what I henceforth personally suggest is dubbed: "THE EPITOME OF EMBARRASSMENT SEEN AROUND THE WORLD" :-) :-) :-) :-) courtesy of the tactical inept 'Wimpy Dino' aka Mick McCarthy's archaic Hedgehog & Hoof susceptible Ipswich Town FC being outplayed in each and every department of a football game, and for the 2nd consecutive contest mind you, by a freakin' Non-League team 59 places below them, in the esteemed English Football Association Cup!!!

OOOPS! Oh wait I messed up didn't I because that last mentioned one isn't a very "Good Thing" let alone an accomplishment to be proud of is it now??? LOL

{Epilogue}: And what happens to the incompetent man ultimately accountable for anything to do with this Ipswich team, their winning mentality (or rather lack hereof!) & their performances after this just *latest* in a loooong string of humongous embarrassment with this one not only being able to be seen locally within the UK , but additionally by millions upon millions all around the Globe???

Well NOTHING "of course"!!!!!!!!! Rather I seriously expect him and his prehistoric sidekick Terry 'I'm the least productive assistant & trainer ever' Connor to get both their contract options for an additional 2 years i.e. to 2020 invoked anytime SOON by our football clueless & football indifferent owner and his pathological lying public relation puppet Mr. Milne!!!

Personally I will thus continue my earlier announced *boycott* of ITFC & The Marcus Evans Group and this after having been an active fan for 40+ long years and me and the Mrs. will not attend 1 single more game while MM is in a charge! And I strongly recommend all you sensible & objective fans out there, young as old, of this here once proud club do the same, cause despite how unsupportive and hurtful it might seem initially "money money money" (and receiving noticeably less of it from this supposedly off-shor'ish tax-benefit 'toy' of his) is clearly the ONE & ONLY language alleged Crooked but unmistakably Clueless Marcus Evans can and will ever understand, and make him forced to act progressively!

{Relating Personal Observations On OTHER Events Of The Past Week} :
So to all those silly Muppets that not only went ready-to-jump-off-all-buildings ultra ecstatic after Saturday's win over Rovers, but also eagerly down-voted galore anyone who dared to suggest especially pregame that Captain Calamity wasn't really worth a contract extension based on his performance is 2016 ... Well dear Muppets meep meep: THE JOKES ALL ON YOU!!!

Cause not only was that win (although it came with slightly more entertainment and fewer negatives than we are largely accustomed to this last 1½ year) simply also just another recent unmistakably CHEAP pappering-over-the-cracks win against a visible very poor and dysfunctional sheiiite league team (QuiZzz Time: When was the last time we beat a truly decent to good side especially while not being aided by a very fortuitous late goal in the process??? Kind of hard to remember isn't it? lol)
....but with regard to Chambers he ONCE AGAIN showed last night that he doesn't really have 2 shillings worth of Leadership and/or Leadership impact in him when the going gets tough (and/or his beloved "Gaffer's" 1-dimensional and lone "Plan A" fails) despite all his honorable "good intentions" when taking the field wearing the captain's armband! And additionally he is of course nowadays a not only visibly but also statistically beyond piZzz poor passer/crosser of the ball, to go with his regressing lack of overall pace and even more and more frequent slowness to react quiet fast enough, particular at RB, in certain defensive situations! Heck if you want to be a little further rude but not really too far off you could actually claim that his biggest current asset to the team is his notable aerial force on our set-pieces in the opposition's bottom half!!!

Also whether all Chambers' morally fine & commendable *APPEARING* inputs in that long interview was made all on his entirely own unrehearsed accord is not for me to say ....but ehmmm given ITFC blatantly obvious own orchestrated weekly 'who-caught-the-short-straw' antics also published here I'm allowed to speculate just a little am I not? :-) lol just like I do to some degree when taking some exception to the fact that while Stuart Watson was able to keep said interview all wrapped up in 1 single article in EADT, Phil strangely went for splitting it up in no less than 5 separate articles, presumably giving it maximum exposure and maximum effect, but why exactly??? Phil & TWTD are obviously entitled to their journalistic prerogatives as well as private views on MM, MM's dispositions and MM's 'favorites' etc. but to me all those Chambers's inputs incl. the timing of it and the way TWTD chose to present it COULD all be construed as having a partly very classic "KISS-AS@" ulterior motive appearance to it imho! "Just saying" .... :-)

As for the those biiiiig and awesome recently added reinforcements Milne have the audacity to mention above .... HaHaHaHa If the Dino's 6 feet 6 brand new "HOOF TARGET" was really remotely talented enough to be say the next Jaime Vardy or Andre Gray after paying his dues in the FA outside the PL first mind you! he would A) Clearly have been in Forest Green starting lineup every game and B) been spotted and vacuumed up by some much bigger and more ambitious club than ours already! Period! As for the freebee Mr. Spence well the fact that he was ONCE fairly highly rated means absolutely Nada nowadays, emphasized by the other fact that awesome and seriously defensive troubled Milton Keynes deemed him so suspect than even they wouldn't hand him any type of new contract???!!! But good luck to them both obviously... particularly since I've good reasons to fear they are both gonna need exactly that to succeed under the current archaic and inept regime!

I'm just as disappointed by the cup exit and performance as everyone else. But we haven't made it past the third round since 2010 and we came 7th last year in the league and 6th the year before so it just generally seems like mick and the club don't care about the cup and this year is no exception.

So unless that cup performance spills over into league performance then nothing much has changed.

The club need to give mick money to spend or just continue as is. I can't see another manager doing any better with the same budget.

I just don't think mick does himself any favours when he plays Douglas and then plays ward out of position and then finally brings on dozzell, but leaves Douglas on!

In a word NO! Enough is enough.

The whole country was treated to the spectacle of just how bad we are last night and Town fans have been putting up with this rubbish for 18 months or more. I shall not be renewing my season tickets next season and I know many who think the same.

Do the honorable thing and resign. The performance was the worst I have ever seen. This was the biggest demonstration that the Manager does not have any tactics. The team selection was unbelievable negative against non league opposition and played appalling. No idea from the touchline as to how to motivate or organise our team. Not taking anything away from a fine performance from Lincoln, but we never should have been in a position where a loss was possible

A few feelings I'd like to air to other Town lovers. Is it the worst time I remember being a town fan? It's down there, though when we were 8 points away from safety when Mick took over we were in dire straits. Also, it was pretty crap before Marcus Evans bought us out when were in administration!!

Was last night the worst I have seen town? No, they were worse against Fulham on Boxing Day no doubt, but they were very poor. They were also very bad against Paterborough a few years ago in a 7-1 (pre-MM)... The most disappointing thing about last night was the aimless long balls, Skuse Douglas don't work together, all the things people have already said. The same defence that kept 7 clean sheets in 11 about 2 months ago have looked terrified for several weeks.

Is it all Mick's fault? No. He's had basically no money to spend and has been feeding largely off loans and Bosmans. We've seen Wickham (£11 mil), Cresswell (£3 mil), Mings (£8 mil) and Murph (£3.5mil) leave, and he's only really spent on Knudsen, G ward and Webster to my thinking, costing about £2.5 mil + maybe a small fee of Pitman but I think he's part of the Mings deal? Delaney left as well, as did McCauley. We got Chambo on a free, Berra on a free etc etc etc. The board either have to back him or sack him. I know we're having a very bad season relative to what we've come to expect, but the man has definitely overachieved over 4 years with the money he's had (results wise). He's somehow pulled in 1 or 2 X-factor loan players (Fraser, Williams, Lawrence etc) who've done the business. Before that DJ Campbell and Jimmy Bullard had good loan spells (before MM). I've been a MM fan, but last night was not enjoyable. Saw them vs Norwich at Portman RD and they were tough to beat, hard working, and were maybe unlucky not to win actually, but their heads are down now and their fight is not what it was in the not too distant past. We set up as being hard to beat, but I agree it has become too negative and we need to put the oppo on the back foot more.

Back him or sack him. Sack him, they have to back the new manager or we'll stay as we are/drift closer to league 1. Sack him in the middle of the window then its a bit pointless anyway. Rowett is available, but who else? Hodgson maybe? Let's try and lift them though, I find it hard as well when we're not playing well but remember, it's times like this that make the good times much sweeter!

Simply breathtaking lack of understanding of current fan opinion. You'd think the plummeting crowds might be a bit of a clue. His statement reaches the depths of patronising old sh1t when he talks about the two recent signings. One was an unattached full back absolutely no one else was interested in, the other a striker who can't get into a National League side's team. If paying customers were fobbed off like this in any other walk of life they would be hammering at the door demanding their money back. No one has a divine right to success in sport, but the people who provide the lifeblood to football clubs have a right not to be treated like complete idiots.

Are you f#*king kidding me! Congratulate a conference side for outplaying us twice and expect us to be excited about a £10,000 transfer and a freebie that previously wasn't good enough for us! The club is totally out of touch with how dejected the fan base is and last night should have been the nail in the coffin - but no. As a club we are notoriously patient with managers but this is ridiculous and it's time that some decisive action was taken to address the poor performance on and off the field

Great post Tractorblue 1939. Couldn't agree more.

Having said that last night was shocking. The only time we managed to put a non league team under any sort of pressure was in the last few minutes and that ended by us being caught out at the back. Naïve to say the least.
