Town Sign Former Trialist Spence
Monday, 16th Jan 2017 16:15

Town have announced the signing of former West Ham and MK Dons right-back Jordan Spence on a contract to the end of the season. The 26-year-old was on trial with the Blues in September and October when he featured for the U23s matches at Bolton and at home to Liverpool.

Free agent Spence was released by the MK Dons last summer having joined them initially on loan in 2013 from West Ham where he came through the youth ranks.

While with the Hammers the Londoner also had spells on loan at Leyton Orient, Scunthorpe, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Spence was capped by England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels.

Following his trial with the Blues, Spence had similar spells with Rotherham United and Birmingham City.

The new signing, who trained with the squad this morning, is not available for Tuesday's FA Cup third round replay at Lincoln as he wasn't a Town player for the initial tie.

No doubt Spebce at least brings welcome and long overdue cover at RB. Could turn out to be a really good addition but if not inexpensive options for a much depleted squad.

He's definitely got talent and you'd like to think MM can teach him application. Probably left dons because they couldn't afford him after relegation back to lge1.

Maybe he was pricing himself out of the market? That or the switch to 5 (or depending on your outlook) simply warrants the extra cover.

I do hope that a back 5 is here to stay as a result

It amazes me how many so called fans don't know what's going on at the club. Probably because they only read the headlines of the stories on here before commenting. People are asking is this all we're going to get? We have 4 bids in excess of £1m in for players so w e are clearly trying to sign other players.

Released from MK Dons...but signed until the end of the season!?!

Let's be honest here surley he's not going to have enough time to prove himself, he's probably a cheap option as a reserve reserve right back, unless Chambers is going and then he'll be a reserve right back. Strange.

I do hope this means Berra is getting closer to moving on. Has been a decent defender but now too slow too left footed and a liability. How he hasn't given away more penalties is beyond me, constantly wrestling with the opposition at corners and free kicks.

Actually really, really pleased about this signing. He has looked very good every time I have seen him.

This tells me that Chambo is off. Don't see him being used at center half with Digby and Tommy (when he's back) sitting in the background. Josh is decent so hopefully he doesn't move ahead of him for Right back.

Decent player at Bristol City a few years ago - seems to me the 3-5-2 is here to stay and Spence will slot into RWB when fully fit.

decent player-think the 3-5-2 is here to stay and Spence will play at RWB. Isn't his wife an actress?

Its taken Marcus Evans a few months, since his trial, to raise the £10k.

I haven't been this excited of this signing since Giles Coke signed for us

Flipping heck hope the two poor sods don't come on here. This lad is decent and friends of mine who are MK Dons fans reckon the best of their players last season. Clearly lost direction a bit but with good man management (one thing I will credit MM with) could be an asset. And all this bleating about Emanuel and 3 CBs is garbage. Emanuel has potential but a lot to learn and Kenlock is the better prospect imo. But Spence coming in at least means Chambo can play where he needs to - Centre back with Webster.
Moore is just potential but he's got a bit about him and a point to prove so who knows.
My confusion is over why we need another striker when clearly it's an energetic box to box midfielder we need and possibly a creator (Lloyd Isgrove for the latter?). With that, hopefully Dids and Sears will get the ammunition to do the biz?

Think the negativity and comparison to Coke is very undeserved. MK dons fans were unhappy about him leaving and he had a very high overall rating in all his games, coming close second to David Martin (GK) in the player of year awards and only missing out the previous season due to outstanding performances from Dele Alli. My mates who are MK Dons fans think he is a real worker and is quick but perhaps needs to conserve energy sometimes as gets burned out in latter stages of matches. His references are really good, and he was a firm fan favourite. A very different picture to the previous mentioned signing.
