Town Ticket Prices Among Championship’s Highest
Wednesday, 16th Nov 2016 22:11

Town have the joint-highest-priced cheapest matchday ticket in the Championship, according to the BBC’s Price of Football survey for the current season, which has been released this evening.

The Blues’ lowest-priced adult seat purchased on the gate ahead of a game costs £30, as does the cheapest matchday ticket at Leeds.

Birmingham and Huddersfield have the cheapest adult matchday tickets in the division at £15, while Derby have seats at £17.50 and Blackburn, Cardiff and Nottingham Forest at £18.

The Blues' most expensive adult matchday ticket is the joint-sixth dearest at £40 along with Norwich City and Birmingham with Sheffield Wednesday (£49), Fulham (£45), Brighton and Leeds (£42), Bristol City (£41) dearer.

Town’s cheapest adult season ticket is the fourth highest-priced of Championship clubs' cheapest at £417 (if bought before the early bird deadline), 24 per cent above the league average, with only Norwich (£499.50), Brighton (£475) and Newcastle (£428) more expensive.

Sheffield Wednesday (£415) and QPR (£400) are the only other Championship clubs whose cheapest season ticket is over £400.

Wigan and Huddersfield have the lowest-priced cheapest season tickets at only £179, while the Latics’ dearest season ticket is only £229.

The Blues’ most expensive season ticket quoted in the survey, £842 (a small number of seats in an area on the halfway line), is the dearest ahead of Fulham’s £839 ticket, although the Town website shows other seats aimed at the corporate market at higher prices.

In terms of tickets for away fans, Town have the cheapest at £10, according to the survey, but also the joint-second most expensive away seat at £40 along with Norwich, with only Sheffield Wednesday’s priced higher at £42.

Further information on the Blues' prices can be found here, while details of ticket pricing, as well as the cost of tea, pies and replica kit, at 223 clubs across 23 leagues can be found here.

Commenting on the survey, Town media manager Steve Pearce said: “We have frozen matchday ticket prices for the last four years and our season ticket prices in that time have gone up by only 1.7 per cent on average.

"“We have maintained an under-11s season ticket price at just £10 for the last nine years, which compares favourably with any professional club in British football.

"“We have also introduced a ‘Pick 6/Pick 12’ match ticket bundle that provides a cheaper rate than buying tickets game by game.

"“As well as providing promotional offers to season ticket holders - these include saving money on additional match tickets - for the 2016/17 season we have introduced a new partnership scheme with local companies with season ticket holders able to get significant discounts on a range of goods and services.

"“Having said that, we are taking a detailed look at our whole ticket operation. This obviously includes pricing but also new initiatives, reward schemes for season ticket holders and how to cater for any increase in away fans looking to come to Portman Road.

“This is a big venture for us and significant discussions have already taken place. They will continue to take place and we will be canvassing opinions from supporters.”

Damn I post my comment and find the info I'm looking for!

Gate receipts (season tickets, POS tickets etc.) make up 39% of their total income.

Why don't all us season ticket holders not go on Saturday as a protest against the highly expensive ticket prices? The game is on Sky so we can watch from the comfort of our home, plus as an exhibition for all to see on Sky, it will send out a message when the show the game with hardly anyone there.

High ticket prices are okay proving the entertainment on the pitch and quality of signings reflects the entrance fee. Sadly, as I have said before the complete opposition applies to ITFC. Evans arrogantly flogs tickets at Harrods prices, but shops in Poundland. The quality of football is an absolute disgrace in comparison to the ticket prices. Things won't improve with the unambitious Evans at the helm.

I used to come to Portman Road fairly regularly but I have a young family and with the price of tickets (I would buy a ticket for my dad as well) I simply cannot justify the outlay. Throw in the travel costs (I'm a two hour drive away) and the quality on offer on the pitch sadly I cannot foresee another visit in the near future.

Pathetic how the club try and pretend they offer away tickets for £10 when this is only for one-match only promotions usually against lower rated teams. The question in the survey should say "excluding single match promotions"

Is anyone really surprised at this fact.

Those in charge at ITFC seem to have forgotten that they are in the ENTERTAINMENT business, there is precious little of that being served up at PR at the moment with the current manager and his awful style of football. This combined with the extortionate price of tickets there is no wonder that there are poor attendances, something seriously has to change to entice back supporters, I for one will not be wasting £30 odd quid when I can watch it on tv ( a very sad situation as if the product on offer was better I would be happy to pay}

Hardly a surprise as we've known for ages that Town have one of most expensive tickets. They've not done anywhere near enough to offer better deals esp to attract new fans or try to entice old ones to return.
I haven't seen any evidence of "kids for a quid" or getting schools in en bloc. ME seems to have forgotten that kids are our future but guess he doesn't car much. Attendances are well down and while there maybe some improvement if MM starts getting better results, I can only see it declining unless there's radical approach both on and off the pitch!!

The usual weasel-words from the club. They will never admit that matchday tickets are unjustifiably highly priced. The football doesn't warrant it, our status as the longest-serving Championship club doesn't warrant it, and I don't believe there are enough fans with the spare cash to pay these prices on a regular basis.

A good gesture would be to knock £5 off all grades of matchday ticket, that way the cheapest ticket becomes £22.50. Still pricey compared to other clubs but better than nothing. By doing so, the value of a season ticket isn't threatened either.

Jimmyp45. And how would that do anything. As season ticket users our tickets aren't that expensive. Costs me around £17pergsme. Plus we would be counted as being there Neway it's of no consequence totheclub. We've already paid for our tickets. Weevil. I totally agree about ticket offers. Infact I think they take the Mick out of season ticket holders tbh

Up there with the highest ticket prices and down there with entertainment on offer........ that's one perfect storm.

Matchday prices are not directly comparable - Leeds charge an extra £5 on the day, but have not included that in their price. Town have included our (unreasonable) £2.50.

Most clubs limit the number of cheapest season tickets so many fans areforced to pay much more. At Town, the enti lower tier is priced at the cheapest rate, so no-one need pay more than the lowest rate.

We're still pricey, but it's not as bad as stats make you think.

Football, as with any other commodity is a simple supply and demand issue. Offer good football and fans will pay a higher premium to see their team win. Offer low quality football and the demand drops. You can't offer sub par quality and charge premium rates to offset the loss of people not coming to the games. All you are doing is punishing the loyal fans. Lower the prices, get more bodies through the gates. In turn, these bodies spend money on food and drink and the atmosphere improves. All people want is value for money. If they don't feel they are getting it, they wander off and find it elsewhere.

Even I have to admit that this is just not good enough from our club. It's great that there are cheap tickets for the little 'uns, but the key demographic in my opinion is the 16-25 year olds. These are the ones that have the least amount of disposable income and are the ones who are most likely to get singing and chanting during a game. Vital group to get the atmosphere going again...

....... now, now, people - you're not allowed to question anything about the Club anymore, as you should all know by now.

The caring Club we once knew - is no more. Sadly.

Swn98 the only problem with your argument is some stopped coming last season when we were challenging for a playoff spot, it is not only about winning; my grandson and I got totally bored with the football on show.
