McCarthy: Owner Remains Very Supportive
Wednesday, 2nd Nov 2016 16:58

Mick McCarthy says owner Marcus Evans remains as supportive now, during what the Town boss admits is the toughest spell of his time at Portman Road, as he was when the Blues were in the play-off places.

Despite some fans calling for McCarthy's head, Evans is unlikely to be looking at making a change with the Town owner having shown patience with his managers in the past.

The Blues are currently 16th, six points off their pre-season target of the play-offs and four points from the relegation zone.

“I have always enjoyed a very good relationship with Marcus,” McCarthy told Ipswich Player HD in an interview reflecting on his four years at the club, yesterday having been the anniversary of his appointment.

“I don’t see lot of him but we speak after every game and he rang me on Sunday morning after the Rotherham game.

“The conversation is always a lot easier when you are in the top six than where we are at the moment. It’s a lot happier conversation but Marcus was no different to usual.

“He has always been very supportive and nothing has changed. He is the same now as when we were in the play-off places. He knows what we are striving for.”

Glad that Evans knows what we're striving for, but MM - who has to talk for him on these matters - has to realise that we supporters DON'T "know what we're striving for"

Are we just playing to survive ? Are we playing for promotion ? OR are our expectations being managed down to a lower level still ?

ANSWERS PLEASE MR EVANS. Grow some and talk to us direct.

That's why we need Evans to sell up too.

agreed: at least if he did say he's being tight on purpose and keeping us in the same league then we'd actually know. I'd give him more credit for that if he was honest about it.

Does he know that you called it a "must win match"? That's the discussion you should have been having...

Evans doesn't care. He has little ambition for the club other than to sell off assets and utilise a debt - which primarily exists on paper as it was actually purchased for a lower value - to the advantage of his other businesses. He won't pay MM off and as long as we stay in this division he is likely to be content. Trouble is more and more fans continue to turn their back on the club.

...supportive to who? Mick's has a good relationship with Marcus, and we all know why as Mick does a reasonable job (until this season) on scraps makes Marcus some money on cheap brought in players i.e. Mings, Murphy etc. and in return gets paid well. It's as simple as that.

4 years down the line under MM's management does it look like we're genuine candidates for at least the play-offs? - no it doesn't!

Exactly as Ferguson said. At the moment we are told to blindly support the team into the Abyss, nothing positive from the club apart from how many ex pros and current 'pros' (using that word lightly) love Mick and how good a job he's done and how he ain't going anywhere, how about talking about the poor poor football every single week . Pfffffft. Whatever!

Evans was a supporter and mate of Jewell but at least he did resign for the Benefit of the club !!!

Its us fans who are no longer supportive. Thats becoming more evident at each home game, by attendances.

Obviously Evans is not bothered about wether we play football or not !

Both these men are a joke!! Marcus Evans won't sack Mick as he'll have to fork out money to do so! Both need to go! The sooner Mick goes, play offs could be reachable, but with him it won't be relegation, but a boring season finishing 17th!

Oh come on guys. This is just McCarthy spouting his usual tripe. How many times in the past year has he come out with this same statement? We have no idea if it's true or not. Still, atvleadt it's given has his chance to give his usual tirade towards Evans with no basis of fact. Yes he bought the debt for less than it was but the fact is that that debt has now over doubled and Evans has invested millions just to sustain it. And the only way he will get his money back is if we get promoted as no1 could afford to buy him out. So of course he's interested. But he won't put the future of the club itself at risk by spending like some clubs have, most of whom have failed to get promoted anyway. Even then he has paid millions in signing players but for some reason many on here still don't seem to grasp the fact that every player we sign costs money. But why would they accept that when it gives them something to beat Evans over the head with.

Well said blues1. The club needs us fans through thick and thin and its no use at all attendances dropping like they are, severely worsening our finances. Who is to say we wont go on a winning run and skip up the table? Williams, Bish, McG and Reg ate all fit again so why not?

More bad news coming out of Portman Road . Won't return until Evans no longer backs MM and sees what damage he us doing to the club and players . Only beaten a team playing non league football less than 10 years ago in last 10 or so games ,football dire yet he is doing a good job ?

We are being run as a tax loss for the Evans empire that is why Mick is still around and will continue to be as he is doing what he's told(not screaming for money like previous managers since Marcus took over) and getting a very nice wedge for doing so!! it's so obvious even Milne has not been on here spouting his usual empire governed drivel, what the effin hell is happening to our great club that once threatened and frightened the best sides in Europe!!??? we are reduced to not being able to scare the likes of Rotherham for Christ's sake
