McCarthy: Owner Remains Very Supportive
Wednesday, 2nd Nov 2016 16:58

Mick McCarthy says owner Marcus Evans remains as supportive now, during what the Town boss admits is the toughest spell of his time at Portman Road, as he was when the Blues were in the play-off places.

Despite some fans calling for McCarthy's head, Evans is unlikely to be looking at making a change with the Town owner having shown patience with his managers in the past.

The Blues are currently 16th, six points off their pre-season target of the play-offs and four points from the relegation zone.

“I have always enjoyed a very good relationship with Marcus,” McCarthy told Ipswich Player HD in an interview reflecting on his four years at the club, yesterday having been the anniversary of his appointment.

“I don’t see lot of him but we speak after every game and he rang me on Sunday morning after the Rotherham game.

“The conversation is always a lot easier when you are in the top six than where we are at the moment. It’s a lot happier conversation but Marcus was no different to usual.

“He has always been very supportive and nothing has changed. He is the same now as when we were in the play-off places. He knows what we are striving for.”

Boring rhetoric yet again. No transparency from the top, no ideas from Mick, no hope for us poor supporters who, more than spending money, spend our time, energy and lives supporting a club that is a shell of what it was even 16 years ago

If Mr.Evans is supportive of you Mick, then that don't say much for the future of our once great club.
We are very slowly sinking,Deminishing gates, boring football, bad team selection, and even worse substitutions.

We have a decent bunch of good footballers at this club, capable of achieving much, much more with a tacticly better manager.

Should we loose at Sheffield on Saturday and the teams below us win we will really be in the sh@t.
I cannot bear the thought.

Hi blues1,

I feel I need to speak up as I am one of those who "don't seem to grasp" guys. And yes - I gasp that every loan player costs money but they cost much less than a permanent player and a quality one too. This is what I meant when saying ME is on the cheap going that often to the loan market.

And to continue on MEs intentions about the Club - I strongly believe he uses ITFC only as a business solution. He would like to keep us at that level so that he can save some taxes from his other profitable businesses and assets. This is the only reasonable conclusion one can make about him. Every single club that got financial injection in the ranges ME did got promoted but us. ME does seem to make one "wrong" decision after another with his selection of a Manager and the way he is supporting his work. And I don't believe a man with his business savvy and money he got can make such bad decisions unless it is intentional. Just some examples:
1. Keep Jim as a Manager knowing very well he just hang his booths and have no managerial experience at all, trusting him with 12M to spent and get us promoted.
2. Replace Jim with Keane - to me only a strategical play to get a big name as a manager to promote his brand. And it worked - we have never got such attention before or after Roy Keane even being top 5 at the Premier League with Burley.
3. Replace Keane with Jewell and dropping on the financial help for new players
4. Hiring a "big name" in MM paying him huge salary but with no financing for new players

All these are examples on bad decision after bad decision when the easiest approach would have been hiring a "big name" right after he got the ownership of Club and give him the 12M or more to get us promoted right away as most of the other clubs do when they get a reach owner.

I hope he proves me wrong (and I will publicly apologize then) but I feel he would keep MM a bit more and when the fans get more frustrated he will replace him with a new Manager who will continue this line of work - with no support for new players and no idea of promotion. I have always been an optimist but now this is what I think...

blues1 I absolutely agree with your post Marcus Evans is what he is we do not know him and as such it is difficult to assess his character but with the level of debt he has with ITFC to suggest he is not interested is just bizarre.
jas0999 you constantly come out with the same rhetoric about how much of an asset or offset that the debt owed to the Marcus Evans Group is; please enlighten us with some figures and computations, because for the life of me as an experienced business man of many years standing neither I, nor my Accounts Director can work it out.
Not withstanding any of the foregoing I like just about every ITFC supporter am missing the kind of entertainment that going to PR is generally accepted as synonymous with the club.

"He knows what we are striving for.” - I agree with Ferguson, what are our objectives?! Remember when Evans came here and Clegg told us it is not a case of IF but WHEN we get promoted? We now seem to have vague hopes of play-offs if we strike it really lucky one year, but meanwhile attendances fall and fall due to the poor quality of the football. Even our strategy of investment in the academy feels fruitless at the moment with youngsters being limited to odd appearances to cover injuries.

GeorgiDoundarov - You can't blame Evans for sticking with Magilton, Jim was doing a great job until the money came along. I'm with you on the other three examples though!

Mark: I remember Burley doing very well on a small Budget, even finishing 5th in the premiership, then after that he had this windfall from Sheepshanks and that was wasted on players like
Findi george, Sereni, Le pen,etc.
and after that we went downhill fast which led to Burleys downfall and sacking

Georgi. . Yet again a post full of inaccuracies? Evety club bar usxwith the sortvof cash injection of ME got promoted? Rubbish. In fact clubs whove invesyed far more than ME have failed to get promoted. Derby to name just 1. Blackburn another. Brighton too. Sheff weds. Need I go on. I agree with you on his choice of managers, tho he was right to at least give magilton a chance, taking into account it was Sheepshanks who appointed him . And hexdidnt drop the financial backing for Jewell. Like magilton and Keane he was given £12m.

And also, blaming Evans perceived lack of investment in the team, which is somewhat inaccurate, for us not getting promoted isnt necessarilyvtrue anyway. 3 years ago Burnley bought just 1 player (Ashhley Barnes) who costv £750000 And they got promoted. Why? Because they Barca managrt

Let's see just how good he is at man managing and sign Joey Barton.
I personally think he is just what we need in midfield, did Burnley no harm last season as he was managed properly by Dyche,
Proven championship midfielder who will be available on a free in jan, it's got to be worth a gamble.

Evans & McCarthy know what 'we' are striving for? Is that meant to say 'surviving' for?

Well if they do actually know, can they please tell the fans. 'Cos we certainly don't!!!

Logically would MM come out and say anything else about his relationship with Evans, it is the same when Freddy was interviewed last week, all positive about MM. "He who pays the piper calls the tune". There is more spin here than at a political rally.

"Marcus has always been very supportive and nothing has changed!"..................

Hmmm I'm absolutely certain then that 'Football-Clueless Marcus' can ONLY be thinking along the lines of Brian Oldfield the former standout Shot Putter:
