McCarthy Confirms Hyam Contract Talks Wednesday, 3rd Feb 2016 11:56 Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that the Blues are in contract talks with midfielder Luke Hyam, as TWTD revealed yesterday. The 24-year-old’s current deal is up in the summer but Town have an option for a further season, which McCarthy says the club will be taking up, with discussions regarding new terms ongoing. "We've got an option on him and clearly I'm going to take that up," McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk. "We are in negotiations with him about a new contract. Whether he's happy with what we've offered him I don't know - Marcus [Evans] is dealing with it.” We understand that the parties aren’t too far away from an agreement and it’s likely that former Northgate High School pupil Hyam, who came through the Blues’ academy, will put pen to paper in the next few weeks. Hyam, who spent a short spell on loan at Rotherham before Christmas as he worked on his fitness after almost 11 months out with a knee injury, made his senior debut on the opening day of the 2010/11 season in a 3-1 win at Middlesbrough and has now made 104 starts and 15 sub appearances for Town, scoring three goals. Meanwhile, Town have very few tickets left for the away game at Bristol City a week on Saturday and fans hoping to attend are advised to purchase their seats as soon as possible with no on-the-day sales at Ashton Gate. Tickets can be booked via ITFC Direct.
