McCarthy: Stewart and Connolly Can Move On
Monday, 14th Dec 2015 13:59

Town boss Mick McCarthy says wingers Cameron Stewart and Dylan Connolly can leave the club in January.

Stewart, 24, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2017, has made only two FA Cup sub appearances for Town since signing on a free transfer following his release by Hull City in the summer of 2014.

The one-time Manchester United trainee is currently on loan at Doncaster Rovers where he is impressing manager Darren Ferguson.

Asked whether he might come back into the fold on his return from Doncaster, McCarthy said: “No. Why? Take his appearance record since he’s been here, he’s not going to play. He’s got to go somewhere else.

“He knows that, by the way. I wish him well and I hope he’s doing well at Doncaster and he can find a club that he fits in with and where he plays well and he ends up progressing and has a good career.”

Irish U21 international Connolly, 20, joined the Blues in January last year from Shelbourne, signing an 18-month contract. The Dubliner was on the first-team bench on a number of occasions last season but without making his senior debut.

Connolly has made no impact on the first-team this season and McCarthy says his contract will be settled to allow him to find a club back home in January.

“Dylan will be released,” he confirmed. “We’ll make him a free agent so he can go and get a club in Ireland if he can.”

Mick gets it wrong with Stewart because he doesn't like flair players and can't manage them. Signs Fraser who as soon as he gets injured, makes the team lack all style and flair. What a riddle eh?

Think 70% of us knew players mentioned were a long shot to be a success.. Happens too often with British players that don't have mentality to improve, and learn game by game

why rave about these players then not give them a chance its obvious MM prefers an old head with experience compared to a young pacy player with flair if I had Fraser back on Friday he would have been in my team

Shame about young Dylan - came with alot of great promise and ability - just shows the fine line at Top flight football - None of us know what goes on in training and behind the scenes - but the way MM says 'lets hope he finds a club in Ireland 'IF HE CAN' says to me something more than football was the problem
