Town Topic: The Greatest Town Hat-Tricks
Monday, 9th Nov 2015 11:07

Daryl Murphy’s hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Rotherham was the first scored by a Town player since Connor Wickham’s in the 6-0 victory at Doncaster in February 2011, which trebles were the greatest scored for the Blues?

Super Jim in the Play off semi against Bolton. What a night that was! felt physically and emotionally drained by the end.

Also.. Mathie against Naarwich in the 'Destruction Derby' for obvious reasons!

Everyone of these a special memory - just what football is all about question is who is up next folks?

Jim's versus Bolton and Mathie's against the budgies are particular favourites. The first I saw was Simon Milton getting one at Shrewsbury around 1987 in a 5-1 win.

For quality has to be dalian Atkinson v Middlesborough & a young Tony Mowbray & Gary pallister..importance must be Jim magilton play off semi v Bolton. .& for sheer elation Alex mathie v the scum.
Also who will ever forget Alan brazils 5 goal haul v Southampton with a certain peter Shilton in goal..not me as I was present for all 4 hat tricks !!

Hard to top Magilton's for what was at stake, he was an absolute colossus that night and could have played Bolton on his own. Simply refused to be beat, met fire with fire and was absolutely everywhere both on and off the ball. What a leader he was, still makes me emotional thinking back on it. The best individual performance I have ever seen in a town shirt.

Neil Gregory's trio against Sheffield United is fond in the memory,
not entirely for football reasons.
My mates very VERY.attractive wife sat directly in front of me in the North stand at the time turned to me and said "If Gregory scores a hat trick I'll give you a blow job"
When the third hit the net I jumped up on my seat, unzipped my trousers and
................ Bloody jobsworth stewards!!
Oh yeah, the debt is still unpaid :0(

Georginio Wijnaldum for putting 4 past the Scum. He's got to be an honorary Town player for that surely.

I was there for Warky's 4 against Aris Salonika in Round 1, but not for his 3 against Widzew Lodz in Round 3.

Those were the days when it was a joy to watch town, much has changed since then and not for the better i am afraid (Harry from Bath) went to school with Trevor and played with and against him he was an excellent all round sportsman brings back fond memories.

Yes, I stood in the North Stand for John Elsworthy against Coventry, the only Hat-trick he scored. After that he had cartilage problems and had to play further back, great player and a gentle man.

I thought it was Whymark who scored against Lazio, Roma gave him an award when we tried to play the second leg!

Shame we have to be so shocked into going back into history for decent performances.. Shows how iffy we have been for too many seasons..

Maybe not the greatest in terms of quality, but remember us being 3-0 down at Barnsley when Ian Marshall smashed in 3 goals in the last 5 minutes to grab an unlikely 3-3 draw! :)

Adrian_Paz afraid Marshall only got 2,Milton scored our third.
Strange game though, when Marshall got our first it was just seen as a consolation goal,he got the second but it seemed too late, then Milton made it 3-3 and I think we still had a chance to win it(but maybe I am imagining that).

Adrian_Paz added 18:28 - Nov 9
PJH thanks for some reason I was convinced Marshall got all 3! I guess it was almost 20 years ago and I was only 15! Amazing result though, you can't beat those moments!

Adrian_Paz It was March 1996-I looked it up before my original post just to make sure I was right about the third goal.
Barnsley scorers were Redfearn 2(Rotherham Manager)and Liddell(our fitness coach).

Thank you for bringing back some happy memories. I was there that day, but I regret to say I'm not sure who 7 and 8 are. Osborne and Wark?
