Town Given Initial 5,500 Allocation for Manchester United Tie
Thursday, 27th Aug 2015 10:56

Town have been handed an initial allocation of 5,500 tickets for the Capital One Cup third round tie at Old Trafford on Wednesday 23rd September, which now kicks-off at 8pm, however, the club say that the Red Devils are helping to ensure that all Blues supporters who want to make the trip should get a seat.

Tickets for the game, the Blues’ first visit to Old Trafford since September 2001, are priced at £45 for adults (21-65), £35.75 for 18 to 20-year-olds, £25.50 for over-65s and 16-17-year-olds and £5 for under-16s but with Town season ticket holders and members receiving a £5 discount (except for under-16s). Prices may vary for tickets subsequently issued in other areas of the stadium.

The initial 5,500 seats are in the upper tier of the East Stand and go on sale via ITFC Direct and Planet Blue, one ticket for each customer number, next week using the usual priority scheme from 9am on the following days:

Gold members - Tuesday 1st September.
Season ticket holders - Thursday 3rd September.
Silver members - Monday 7th September.
General sale - Tuesday 8th September.

You can find full details of ticketing as well as coach travel on the club site here.

The Blues have also announced that the Birmingham match on Friday 18th September (KO 7.45pm), which is live on Sky, will be a Kid for a Quid game with under-16s able to watch the match for £1 in all areas of the ground.

The Bristol City match on Saturday 26th September (KO 3pm) is a season ticket holder promotion game with season ticket holders able to buy a further four tickets for £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and £3 for juniors.

We are being ripped off as usual. The business aim is to charge the highest possible price the clubs think the "consumers" will stand. I paid less than this to see Malmö-Celtic in the Champions League, which I think most will agree ranks a bit higher than the League Cup. The very least the ITFC regime could do is reward its loyal supporters with free coach travel. The goodwill such a gesture would create would in any case make business sense too.

" As someone has quite rightly mentioned the semi final against arsenal was only £10 surely the powers that be have to start doing something about this. "

We have agreed the price with them, so it's not solely their fault.

We're not in a position to do so are we ! Debt. Sadly, it's about supply and demand. The club will sell out of coaches and tickets without issue.

Can't wait. Great day out.

Great to have a top draw the kind of fixture we all look for, so stop quibbling about an extra tenner.

Nobody should worry us with the start we have had, we have nothing to lose.

While I'm obviously not knocking anyone who is planning to go and support the team, personally I think £45 (or £40) is far too high for 3rd round of the League Cup when Man U will almost certainly field a team made up mostly of reserves (admittedly very good reserves). It's a good example of a case when the price doesn't take into account the fact that most away fans will have significant travel costs and have to take time off work to attend on a Wed night.

As a rough point of comparison, MK Dons charged £25 in most areas of the stadium for their home 2nd round tie v Man U last season. OK they were a League 1 team at the time, but were arguably playing to the standard of a Championship team and their stadium is more comfortable / has more modern facilities than Old Trafford, so I don't think it's the worst comparison. That game sold out pretty quickly (27,000 including 6,000 away fans) and it was clear they could have charged significantly more and still sold it out, but they chose not to take the mickey.

The rules say that both teams need to agree on prices... but it also says this "the admission prices to be charged to supporters of a Visiting Club shall not be higher than those charged to the supporters of the Home Club for comparable accommodation and in particular concessionary rates offered to senior citizens and junior supporters shall apply equally to both sets of supporters" and I'm pretty sure someone mentioned Utd's prices for the same area was £38. So one of these rules has been broken...
