Taylor and Loach Available for Transfer
Friday, 2nd May 2014 14:58

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made striker Paul Taylor and goalkeeper Scott Loach available for transfer, says Sylvan Ebanks-Blake won’t be staying beyond the end of his short-term contract and will make decisions on the futures of Stephen Hunt, Paul Green and Frazer Richardson later in the summer.

Taylor, a £1.5 million signing from Peterborough in the summer of 2012, is contracted for another year, while Loach, brought in from Watford for £150,000 earlier in that close season has another year remaining on his deal and Town will circulate their availability to other clubs.

“Paul Taylor will be going, he’s not going to play for me, so we might as well clear that up,” McCarthy confirmed. “Quite clearly, he’s not my type, he’s not going to play, he’s going to go somewhere else.

“I’ve spoken to them both, they know full well what the picture is. Loachy, to be fair, wants to play and there’s only one position.

“Tayls isn’t my type, I’m afraid, just not my style. I’ve not fallen out with him, I’ve just said to him, ‘I’ve not fallen out with you, you’ve not fallen out with me but you’re not going to play for me. You want to play, so let’s cut to the quick and do something about it. Let’s stop pissing about with it. Let’s crack on'.”

Former Wolves men Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Stephen Hunt joined on short-term deals midway through the season with the striker having rarely featured having struggled for fitness.

“Sylvan won’t be staying,” McCarthy said. “Hunty, I’ve spoken to Hunty and I won’t be doing anything with Hunty straight away.

“We’ve got about 18 of the lads who have been here all season coming back [in the summer] and I’ve got Tabby and Ando still in wide areas.

“Hunty’s been fabulous, he makes things happen, his personality’s great and I’m not writing him off completely, but I’m not just going to be doing anything with him on Monday morning.”

He says the situation is the same with loanees Paul Green and Frazer Richardson, who are out of contract with parent clubs Leeds and Middlesbrough respectively this summer.

“Exactly the same set of circumstances, but it cuts both ways,” he added. “If I was to make them all an off that wasn’t the right offer, then they’d say ‘Tell you what, we’ll hang about and see what else comes along’.

“We’re all doing it, we’re all dancing round our handbags seeing what’s going to happen and we’ll make a decision.

“But those guys, they have been outstanding. Hunty, his personality and the work he does, Frazer and Greeny, coming in on loan, Jonny Williams. Brilliant. They’ve been really good pros.”

He says there's no point the club paying wages to those players during the close season and also limiting his options: “What I don’t want to do is queer my pitch for loan deals with Premier League players.

"If you think of the quality of Jonny Williams coming in, if we could get a couple like that, not necessarily his position, wherever they might be playing, then I think that’s going to help us.”

The Town squad will be back for the start of pre-season training on June 26th and 27th to undergo tests and assessment before the preparations for 2014/15 start in earnest on the following Monday.

The Blues will again spend time at Carton House in County Kildare before playing their opening friendly against Shelbourne at Tolka Park in Dublin on Saturday 12th July.

People keep asking what's wrong with Taylor.
Isn't it obvious, he is a nasty piece of work who adds nothing to the spirit in the changing room. All these people who claim McCarthy is talent averse are ignoring that he brought in JW who is mercurial beyond belief.

The arguments for/against Taylor & Loach apart the significant element in this story for me is that while MM does not rule out re-signing the likes of Green, Richardson & Hunt for next season, he sees no point in paying their wages through the summer when better options may become available. And some of you think these signings were his pet players? I bet they don't think so.

For Wolves Mick fielded Jarvis and Kightly who have more than a little skill about them. Taylor does not fit in with his plans because he only works in bursts on the pitch and has issues off it. It's nothing to do with flair.

I thought there might be more with Ebanks-Blake but obviously he hasn't made the strides that Mick wanted over the campaign. I think we need another striker in the transfer window.

Loach is no surprise. Mick had to chose between the two and Gerken's got the nod but most Town fans want a stronger keeper and this is opening the way for it.

Hitzkooler, best post tonight. Let the Football Manager immature kids have their day, but we are selling our best player to finance poor hoofball tactics.
Time for new manager.

He's getting rid of taylor as he's work ethic and training is non excistent. Poor attitude n lazy. Feel for loach as rate him better than gerkin. Would rather go for notts forest goalie. Get rid of crappy tabb, don't need green or richardzon, get some young pacey players who can run past people.

Taylor has contributed exactly 1 and half decent performances in a town shirt. If you're on the bench make an impact, to often he fails to do so. We went back to Posh to get a run of games which he did and was therefore match fit and looked no better for it. MM has signed Jarvus, Vokes, Kightkey to name a few in the past WW was his signing as qas MCG plus Williams. He's not anti flair, he's just anti d*** head

ITFCREalist - what an absolute buffoon, wanting McCarthy out - surely, success should come before style. Jewell tried pretty football. It failed spectacularly. MM knows what he is doing - last season, we all know, really was more about improvement and getting NEAR the playoffs. Cresswell, Taylor, Loach and Berra, if sold, would get in a decent sum to strengthen with - Jennings, Williams (loan) and DJ Campbell. MAYBE

Boring Mick strikes again cant say Tays didn't do well for us what opportunity did he get never had two games in a row just the odd fifteen minutes or so now and again ,saying that i thought when he did get those limited minutes he did exceptionally well he look sharp made things happen takes a wicked free kick and gets the team attacking, now there is the problem attacking Mick doesn't do attacking another boring season coming up guys ..Good luck Paul Taylor go show what you can do for someone who will appreciate your talents and thanks for your efforts here.

When Taylor played he was generally the best player on the pitch. So very disappointing that Mick doesn't have the ability to manage him. Sign of a bad manager. No wonder he didn't cut it in the premier league, where these management skills are even more important.

I would love to know what all this love is for? Taylor has showed more attacking front on a Friday night out in town, and Is a selfish, head down run round the pitch until he loses it type of player. I had my thoughts about him and they were very much backed up when I was lucky enough to attend the sponsors end of season dinner in the week, I was shocked to see one Paul Taylor doing shots and spent most of his time trying to get other players to do them! He is far more worried about going out for a knees up than being a team player.

Blueandtruesince82 cant say I agree with you in the slightest. When has taylor had a run in the team?? And whenever he has come on or played he has made a difference to our general play!!! He often does more in a 10-15 min cameo than the "different class" I cant win a header or finish to save my life Nouble!!! If the likes of mills and mathie see somethin in taylor bearing in mind they know more about the game than the likes of you and me then that says something

agree with JonBull - not good for the team. Also, would the fans be so lovey-dovey if they knew he was a drug cheat?

We must just get rid of him him, Cresswell and Loach, try hold on to Berra which might be difficult, and look to give Hewitt, Mings, Henshall and Wordswroth a chance, maybe wide on the left, as he has a good delivery.

I think the majority of people are judging MM's decision on Taylor as 'he has too much flair for me...'
This is complete rubbish. Taylor has had off the field problems since he joined us. He clearly doesn't train hard, otherwise he would play- just look at Nouble. MM told him in training that he needs to sort his act out, which he did, so was given a game!!
A friend of mine is a Posh season ticket holder, and he says Taylor has completely lost it on the pitch compared to when we bought him.

Jimmy thats fair enough but I just dont see it. I think he has all the talent but none of the application. We dont see the talent nearly enough. At Burnley last week he contributed 1 cynical foul and 1 admittedly brilliant free kick. If you are on the bench you should be fired up, ready to show your stuff. I've seen that once from him, it's not enough. He was awful and disinterested on loan at Posh. If we look so much better when he comes on where are the goals, the assists? Add to that the trouble that seems to followvhim and to me hes more trouble than hes worth

I think a lot of you knocking mick need to go buy the highlights of the Keane and jewel era, if you had seen or remembered them, the football was worse and the results a lot worse!!

@Keanish

This is late in reply i understand, i just wanted to correct you and say i never said it was definitely his attitude, i said could it not be......

At the end of the day Mick works with the players all the time, we only see whats being reported and what we see in games etc, i am willing to trust a manager who has been there and done it before over any supporters opinion because to me Mick has proved his capable of success in the past and with us. He saved us from relegation, and he almost got us to the play offs this season with a very small squad and without spending a penny in the transfer market, imagine what he could potentially do if Evans gave him some money to spend.

I for one trust in Micks judgement and if he is getting rid of a player i think you can be safe in the knowledge that he is not doing it to make us worse, just because he is attack minded and has some flair about him people see him as the ITFC saviour and one that would improve us, not every player fits at every club thats life im afraid, like i said Mick has been there and done it, im willing to support him all the way until i have been proved wrong in that stance.
