Taylor and Loach Available for Transfer
Friday, 2nd May 2014 14:58

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made striker Paul Taylor and goalkeeper Scott Loach available for transfer, says Sylvan Ebanks-Blake won’t be staying beyond the end of his short-term contract and will make decisions on the futures of Stephen Hunt, Paul Green and Frazer Richardson later in the summer.

Taylor, a £1.5 million signing from Peterborough in the summer of 2012, is contracted for another year, while Loach, brought in from Watford for £150,000 earlier in that close season has another year remaining on his deal and Town will circulate their availability to other clubs.

“Paul Taylor will be going, he’s not going to play for me, so we might as well clear that up,” McCarthy confirmed. “Quite clearly, he’s not my type, he’s not going to play, he’s going to go somewhere else.

“I’ve spoken to them both, they know full well what the picture is. Loachy, to be fair, wants to play and there’s only one position.

“Tayls isn’t my type, I’m afraid, just not my style. I’ve not fallen out with him, I’ve just said to him, ‘I’ve not fallen out with you, you’ve not fallen out with me but you’re not going to play for me. You want to play, so let’s cut to the quick and do something about it. Let’s stop pissing about with it. Let’s crack on'.”

Former Wolves men Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Stephen Hunt joined on short-term deals midway through the season with the striker having rarely featured having struggled for fitness.

“Sylvan won’t be staying,” McCarthy said. “Hunty, I’ve spoken to Hunty and I won’t be doing anything with Hunty straight away.

“We’ve got about 18 of the lads who have been here all season coming back [in the summer] and I’ve got Tabby and Ando still in wide areas.

“Hunty’s been fabulous, he makes things happen, his personality’s great and I’m not writing him off completely, but I’m not just going to be doing anything with him on Monday morning.”

He says the situation is the same with loanees Paul Green and Frazer Richardson, who are out of contract with parent clubs Leeds and Middlesbrough respectively this summer.

“Exactly the same set of circumstances, but it cuts both ways,” he added. “If I was to make them all an off that wasn’t the right offer, then they’d say ‘Tell you what, we’ll hang about and see what else comes along’.

“We’re all doing it, we’re all dancing round our handbags seeing what’s going to happen and we’ll make a decision.

“But those guys, they have been outstanding. Hunty, his personality and the work he does, Frazer and Greeny, coming in on loan, Jonny Williams. Brilliant. They’ve been really good pros.”

He says there's no point the club paying wages to those players during the close season and also limiting his options: “What I don’t want to do is queer my pitch for loan deals with Premier League players.

"If you think of the quality of Jonny Williams coming in, if we could get a couple like that, not necessarily his position, wherever they might be playing, then I think that’s going to help us.”

The Town squad will be back for the start of pre-season training on June 26th and 27th to undergo tests and assessment before the preparations for 2014/15 start in earnest on the following Monday.

The Blues will again spend time at Carton House in County Kildare before playing their opening friendly against Shelbourne at Tolka Park in Dublin on Saturday 12th July.

Sad to hear this about Taylor, expected as much - far, far too much flair for MM I'm afraid.

jason0999 - you're too kind in your comments ref MM - next season may well prove the point.

Unless this man goes out and brings in some MUCH NEEDED FLAIR (can't really see it happening) - another potentially boring, typical MM season beckons unfortunately.

PROVE ME WRONG MR McCARTHY .................................. and to the 'forever happy chappies' don't forget to hit the minus button !

If money is that tight why bother with loan signings such as Jordan Graham and Alex Henshall added absolutely nothing, Gerken and Tabb both don't cut the mustard for me either, spend all the cash on Joniesta for a season, him with McGoldrick would scare defences at any level

Loach never showed any promise and isn't good enough so move on Taylor is too much a Jack the Lad off the pitch so move on,Ebanks Blake obviously cant get over injuries and re discover his form so let him move away along with Green and Hunt and Tabb all who haven't shown enough to the Blue of ITFC to deserve to be kept,he could also sling out Anderson,Skuse and Mings

I think MM has actually got this spot on. He's identified the players who aren't going to take us forward (sorry Loachy) and rather than keep everyone hanging around - and maybe miss the opportunity of a replacement who can add quality to the squad - he has decided to act sooner rather than later. I look forward to see who comes in. The Taylor thing is obviously just a clash of personalities; it's too simplistic to say that MM does not like players with flair: Taylor is no Sterling, and I'm pretty sure MM can come up with a similar player who has fewer personal off-field issues to cloud the equation. Onwards and upwards! COYB!

Mick - if Loach goes and that means you buy a new No 1 keeper with Gerken being understudy then OK. Very sorry to see Loach go but Gerken is certainly not as good as him and has made a myriad of costly errors this season. Millwall away takes the biscuit!............if Taylor goes and you get someone of equal flair but with a decent personality then OK. Taylor must just be a total XXXX off the pitch for him to be discarded this way..........BUT, why or why are you not off loading Nouble, he is the worst "player" to put on a Town shirt in decades. He must have something on Mick because no sensible footballing man would have him anywhere near his team. That's some blind spot Mick!

............. not at all happy with losing Taylor - huge percentage of our FLAIR potentially gone - I guess Wordsworth will be the next one on MM's exit list, as he is another threat to our thoroughly boring current style of play.

Also, I think Gerken has had more than his fair share of game time to prove himself - and at this point I believe Loach has the most potential of the two. Good coaching required as an essential tho'.

But of course Mick has his favourites - and they will play - whatever. Evidence throughout the past season of that.

JET, Taylor, show ponys not team players who will track back and stick a foot in for the team. You also have to be a certain type of bloke to be in MM squad, a team player not an individual who is just out for the glory. Williams is pretty much a flair player and he loves him, and you can see why he plays with a smile on his face and battles for the side.

So Williams isn't creative? Derr

Good grief, we spend £1.5m on a talented and energetic forward and end up dumping him for what is likely to be bobbins so we can sign a free transfer lump who is "honest". And Loachy going too. Not the greatest ever, but a Town man and very solid back up. Shame. Can't be saving us much in wages letting him go either.

Hey ho.

Blueboy, agree with your posts. However would add that I do not rate Wordsworth at all. Lazy player with limited skill. He needs a rocket up his arss if he is to realise any potential. Not happy to see Taylor go, as we have not seen his best. As for keeping the likes of Tabb, no thanks and I think Nouble, as 'fun' as he is, needs to find a team of his 'ability' rather than being our jester. Desperately need 2 attacking midfielders, someone to spearhead our attack with McGoldrick and a new keeper. Anyone saying Gerken is our future is deluded. Great effort this season, but not good enough if playoffs are our target.

Another tedious bout of crass bluntness from the man in charge … MM's overblown ego cannot accommodate awkward creative types so brace yourself for a team of reverential bread and butter grafters ..

'Tayls isn't my type' - I think quite a few on this forum knew this some time ago, Mick you've done the stabilizing now at this club but you have to go on to the next level for next season and that means you'll have to bring a few flair players in, and that means possibly you might not get a player that 100% gets back and plays defensively as well as his accustomed roll. We might as well have not sold Martin if you wanted this.

Jason scotland is what I would call a wide player

Disappointed. Tayls still has something to offer IMO.

Sounds like Mick is clearing out a few to free wages up for new players and a couple of Premiership loanees. Hopefully Williams is one of them, I'd like to see him and McGoldrick in the same team. With Loach being let go, I assume Mick has a new keeper in mind. I can also see Marriot taking over from SEB who hasn't looked right fitness wise, just a couple of flashes of the old SEB. We'll probably get to see him come on tomorrow. Maybe Veseli or Hewett have improved enough to cover for Richardson who has always done a good job when he's come on. If Cresswell goes then there could be some cash to invest, but I'd be happy if he stayed.

Would like marek stech from Yeovil as a replacement for loach

Hunt brings nothing. Need 2x creative midfielders/wingers and a keeper. Scott Carson would be a good shout, if Wigan don't go up.

Fair shout on Martin TimmyH.
Id take Martin any day over Tabb. I can only assume Martin's wages were fairly substantial.

How many of you know Taylor personally? I don't. But I'd hazard a guess that MM's opinion is based on more than just PT's playing style.

What a stupid comment 'Nouble has scored more goals than Taylor'. How many more games has he played?

....Mick, when it comes to the end of the season 2015, and your prehistoric football has served up a diet of nearly and nothing's, Marcus says something akin to....."McCarthy isn't my type, I'm afraid, just not my style..I've just said to him 'I've not fallen out with you, you've not fallen out with me but you're not going to manage for me'...you want to manage so let's cut to the quick and do something about it. Let's stop pissing about with it...you need to go..."......and the MM supporters will say how dreadful Marcus Evans is...despicable man....as opposed to what fantastic man management....yes, I guess that's how id like to be treated in the work place....!!!!!....jog on MIck and take your dinosaur behaviours with you.....

Hunt may have a 'great personality' Mick, but so has Kelly Brook! Hunty for the later games has been shocking, picking up last pay day, when Taylor has much more of an impact, off the bench or starting.
Get Taylor fully fit and on Micks side and lass attitude, he could still be awesome for us.

roytheboy added 22:12 - May 2
All through this season I have been hoping that Mc'Carthy would give Taylor a run of games and I would suggest that Taylor would have made a big difference to our season, getting rid of him says more about the Manager's arrogance than anything else, I accept that Taylor may have upset Mc'Carthy but none of us are fully aware of any of that, if I was not getting the opportunities that my skills entitled me to at work then I would almost certainly have told my boss what I thought of him, it takes two to make an argument, Mick you have done ok this season but I am totally disillusioned with you over Taylor, it has been a complete joke watching Nouble being regularly played while a player with Taylor's skills sits on the bench (not that he even made the bench many times) very poor man management in my considered opinion, I expected better than that from Mick and am overall very disappointed, I hope that Taylor has better fortunes with his next Manager.

Moscow_Blue added 22:24 - May 2
Decisive action needed and taken. Clear out the dead wood and move on. Defence is sorted and forwards can cope if McGoldrick is fit. We need two creative midfielders to be competitive. With fair play, signing on free transfers and paying decent wages is the way forward. In Mick we trust in all matters. Come on you Blues!

Taylor and the manager obviously didn't see eye to eye so Taylor (and his salary) had to go.

Loach I am sorry to see leave as I rate him as a 'keeper, but he wants first team football and isn't getting it (also another salary gone).

SEB was too injured.

Richardson and Green I can''to see the point of and never could.

Hunt offers an interesting wide option and I would like to keep him on the right money.

However, the big advantage is that with the likes of Taylor, Loach, SEB, Richardson and Green gone we could give some proper opportunities to our own young players; Marriott, Crowe, Lawrence for instance?
