McCarthy Linked With Palace
Sunday, 3rd Nov 2013 09:56

Town boss Mick McCarthy is amongst the potential contenders for the vacant manager’s job at Crystal Palace, according a number of this morning’s tabloids. Ian Holloway left the Premier League’s bottom club by mutual consent in late October.

It’s claimed that Cardiff boss Malky Mackay has turned down the job, while former Stoke manager Tony Pulis is believed to be less than keen on the financial package having reportedly held talks.

Wales boss Chris Coleman, a former Palace player, is said to be the current frontrunner, with McCarthy and ex-England U21s boss Stuart Pearce also said to be on Palace’s long list. Former Birmingham and Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is thought to be interested.

One paper says serial Palace boss Steve Coppell, currently the director of football at Crawley, is wanted for a similar role with the Eagles.

Palace are said to be loath to pay compensation for their new boss, which would rule out McCarthy, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2015.

In any case, despite his family home being in South London, it seems unlikely that the Town boss would be interested in moving to a club which looks destined for relegation back to the Championship having been promoted through the play-offs in May.

Meanwhile, the Irish Examiner reports that Martin O’Neill has verbally accepted the Ireland job and will formally put pen to paper on a contract this week. Ex-Town boss Roy Keane will be his number two.

Elsewhere, the Blues are linked with a loan move for Tottenham's England U21 international striker Harry Kane.

The 20-year-old has previously spent time on loan at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester and was recently in action at Portman Road in the England U21s' 5-0 victory over Lithuania.

...... all the indications are that MM is not here for the long term, whether this is through the absence of financial backing from Evans is debatable.
We need to look for more in terms of commitment and planning for this Club to move forward - both Owner and Manager take note. In that order.

Come on folks, he doesn't need to respond to crap journalism. Calm down, more important he picks the right team against Blackpool. In comes Hewitt, Taylor and Wordsworth. I will leave MM to decide who to leave out.

Head1970 do you actually go to matches? Murphy is the ONLY one that wins anything in the air. His winning headers ration is probably around 80%. Why are some people so anti Murphy?

ALFROMCOL . Of course he is the only player who wins headers in our side is because he is up front with a player who is playing of him but what do you base your ratio on our side or up against opposing defenders because if its the latter NO chance more like 30% I did say movement as well maybe next game you go to watch his movement with MCGOLDRICK and you will see what i am saying . He is doing the best that he can and the best we have got but not good enough along with a few others.

Someone needs to look at Ian Holloway's record, it isn't marvellous...... Not surprised MM could be wanted. he is one of the best around.. Time for our powers that be to recognise this..

boring tabloid shiiiite....but if there is any truth in it he can do one cant he, we will move on with or without MM.

Cabt see how the palace job would interest him unless he is only motivated by money. they are certainties for the drop and the usual fallout that comes with relegation from the prem. who wants that shiiiite in ya life?

People need to remember that he has had no money to spend, are mid-table and as close to the play-offs as we are to the bottom 3.
Walk_the_Wark holloway loves to play attacking football and score goals, we only have 1 player who can score (maybe murphy can get a couple more) and he cant go and buy a goalscorer because we dont have the money. Also holloways attacking football means you conceed a lot of goals and for some reason we are conceding some sloppy at the moment whilst we are playing defensive football let alone playing attacking football!!!!!!
MM is the man 4 us

Mick and TC have work in progress at ITFC, I can't see them leaving for a long time!
If you have a good Manager, you are always going to have him linked with other jobs.
ME influence is major now...If Mick needs a special player that does'nt upset his player budget, let him have the money to buy? What do you think?

Mick won't go now. He's ours and he'll take us up, if not this season then next.

I think Holloway Recorded is pretty good! had one of thé lowest budgets when when he took Blackpool up, at the time we had keane blowing millions! They were unlucky to go down from prem. Plus he got palace up!

Bog Blue- You have a brain? Can you stretch it to answering my question? Are we/ can we be good enough under McCarthy? Please try hard, I'm intrigued..

Grind grind grind…. If he gets us up with his negativity I'll be amazed. And how entertaining it will be to watch… yawn…. And then we'll come straight back down cos MM CANNOT compete in the Premiership where teams are playing FOOTBALL 2013. Answer this question- Would you pay to go to the cinema to watch a blank screen just cos you've pledged allegiance to said cinema……?

Bobby Petta spot on! Holloway is a character, just like Bobby, and wants to attack. He set the Prem alight with Blackpool. Swansea, similar. It took em a few seasons to go up, but they built a premiership team over those seasons. Yes they took their time and a fair share of batterings from the likes of MM's no nonsense hoofballl teams but they got there…It takes vision, patience, intelligence and guile. Unfortuntately Mick has none of these quality...

HOLLOWAY! No this is rubbish in mick we trust, like he's said he's build himself a platform with NO money, in January I'm sure we will add to the squad and play better football
