McCarthy Linked With Palace
Sunday, 3rd Nov 2013 09:56

Town boss Mick McCarthy is amongst the potential contenders for the vacant manager’s job at Crystal Palace, according a number of this morning’s tabloids. Ian Holloway left the Premier League’s bottom club by mutual consent in late October.

It’s claimed that Cardiff boss Malky Mackay has turned down the job, while former Stoke manager Tony Pulis is believed to be less than keen on the financial package having reportedly held talks.

Wales boss Chris Coleman, a former Palace player, is said to be the current frontrunner, with McCarthy and ex-England U21s boss Stuart Pearce also said to be on Palace’s long list. Former Birmingham and Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is thought to be interested.

One paper says serial Palace boss Steve Coppell, currently the director of football at Crawley, is wanted for a similar role with the Eagles.

Palace are said to be loath to pay compensation for their new boss, which would rule out McCarthy, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2015.

In any case, despite his family home being in South London, it seems unlikely that the Town boss would be interested in moving to a club which looks destined for relegation back to the Championship having been promoted through the play-offs in May.

Meanwhile, the Irish Examiner reports that Martin O’Neill has verbally accepted the Ireland job and will formally put pen to paper on a contract this week. Ex-Town boss Roy Keane will be his number two.

Elsewhere, the Blues are linked with a loan move for Tottenham's England U21 international striker Harry Kane.

The 20-year-old has previously spent time on loan at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester and was recently in action at Portman Road in the England U21s' 5-0 victory over Lithuania.

I really don't care. We need to move forward now and get back to the Town values that seem to have been forgotten about. That dross on Friday could have been a fantastic win with just a little bit of imagination and playing in the correct manner with the more attacking players we have.

Perhaps they minused you, Billm, because you agreed with getting rid of MM. If you get so upset over people disagreeing, maybe this isn't the best forum of discussion for you?

I read in the news today that parlarse are only offering 500k per year and £1 million if they stay up, which the article went on to say that only Chris Coleman of the mentioned managers actually earns less than that.(Mick wasn't mentioned in that article)
So i can't see this being true to be honest!

All you MM anti brigade need to be very careful what you wish for. The bloke performed a minor miracle last season and is doing OK this season. No we are not setting the world alight but he is still building foundations throughout the Club for the future. Go to the training ground and see how the atmosphere is so different now. Everyone loves MM and enjoy working for him unlike previous managers we have had. As for the performance on Friday, I watched the re-run of the game on Sky after returning from the match and we were very good in the first half. Barnsley just happened to be very good in the second half and deserve credit for that.

I'm sorry but I would much rather lose 7-0 to a world class premiership team than play poorly against Barnsley when 1-0 up at home.

Just paper talk, Mick has steady the ship but it is starting to get a boring. keeps picking some team, no creativity or flair, Whats happend to wordsworth? can't understand why he brought tabb on and gave Taylor les then 10 minutes. I wanted Holloway to replace Jewell, would have been more entertaining. Mick doing a ok job, best manager with had for a while, just a bit predictable.

Friday night was the 1st chance id had to see the mighty blues in action this season. Unfortunately due to work I didn't catch the 1st half .
My god. We were awful! Jesus mick , what a shower of uninterested, mediocre crap have you signed! We made struggling Barnsley look world class!
I feel we need to re group completely from the bottom up. League one is calling, has been for a few seasons! Buck up mick or f@&k off!

I wasn't impressed by Friday nights performance at all. It was embarrassing and fans are entitled to say so.

Having said that MM has massive amounts of damage to put right following on from three managers who all proved incapable of doing the job in one way or the other. MM is the first proper manager we have had since Joe Royle and it will take him time to sort things out. This doesn't mean he should be above criticism, some of his decisions are puzzling to say the least, but for the time being we are better with him than without him.

The real worry for me is Evans. Having started his ownership of the club by throwing money at it he has now gone completely the other way and MM was allowed to spend the princely sum of £20,000 on transfer fees in the summer! I know about wages, signing on fees and FFP but seriously, expecting MM or any other manager to build a promotion chasing team on free transfers is ridiculous.

Makes me feel as if a lot of journos regard mm as too good for us. I am inclined to think entirely the opposite , I choose the two men outside the ground as evidence

Chrismakin - you'd rather lose 7-nil than play badly and draw a game of football?????

How can anyone take your posts seriously with idiotic comments like that!? Are people seriously this stupid!?

Can't see it myself. The most interesting piece in this article is the Harry Kane link. Think he'd add a bit of creativity, if this is true.

Hahahahah!! tabloid press say no more - he won't go to Palace although that's the sort of job Mick is used to, scrapping to avoid relegation and trying to pick up a point from games. Palace are doomed.

Can't see him going to Palace. Good Newsweek are being linked with a striker. Need creativity in the midfield though!

Not really bothered if McCarthy stays or goes to be honest. I admire the job he has done to stabilise the club on a very limited budget, but the football is less than scintillating and I won't be paying £30 to watch it.

Lets be honest on here MM did well to keep us in the division with his defence if style of football last season but if we are to go higher and stay there which is what we all want we have to change our style and formation .
Lets start with CHAMBERS not a right back , not playing two holding midfielders, ANDERSON and TABB (when playing) not quick enough in attack , MURPHY doesn't win enough in the air and a scarecrow in a field has more movement , MCGOLDRICK doesn't have enough awareness of what is going on around him .
We need to play more youth who will have no fear they will learn quickly and I don't think MM is the right man for this and his comments in the last 4 games is of a man who is looking for a way out.
