Town Confirm Chopra Exit
Thursday, 25th Jul 2013 10:34

Town have confirmed that striker Michael Chopra has joined Blackpool on a one-year deal with an option for a further season. The 29-year-old was at Playford Road this morning to say his goodbyes.

Last night, Chopra, who cost Town £1 million when he signed from Cardiff in June 2011, revealed that he had undergone a medical having spent this week talking to other clubs.

The former Newcastle and Sunderland man made 56 starts and 26 sub appearances, scoring 19 times in a spell overshadowed by off-field issues.

Despite having had a fractious relationship with fans, particularly on social media, Chopra tweeted his thanks to all at Portman Road: "Would like to thank Ipswich Town Football Club and their fans for the support they have given me in the last two years."

He added: "New challenge and a fresh start for me. Can't wait to pull on the Blackpool FC shirt and play in front of their great supporters ."

Meanwhile, new left winger Jack Doherty has been handed the number 21 shirt.

....... could well be the 'wake up' call he needs - time will yet again tell, in his somewhat wasted career and talent

It has to work for him at Blackpool - or bust.

So glad i never put his name on the back of my sons shirt. Wish hiwell at Blackpool but so glad hes gone. I have a feeling he will do the same up north as he did here....very little on the pitch and a nightmare off it.

As with many people here, I am happy he has gone. Not because of his poor performances, awful scoring rate and under achievement, (I could forgive that), but because I genuinely believe he is a nasty piece of work. He clearly has issues and I do believe he needs support, but the way he is as a person just means that I have no sympathy at all. In terms of our forward line, Nouble's performance at Colchester worries me.

I'm ITFC through and through but people have a right to post negative things about Chopra. In any other industry he would have been sacked..for his wages he did nothing and his limited goals got us nowhere..moaning git ..good riddance
