Town Confirm Chopra Exit
Thursday, 25th Jul 2013 10:34

Town have confirmed that striker Michael Chopra has joined Blackpool on a one-year deal with an option for a further season. The 29-year-old was at Playford Road this morning to say his goodbyes.

Last night, Chopra, who cost Town £1 million when he signed from Cardiff in June 2011, revealed that he had undergone a medical having spent this week talking to other clubs.

The former Newcastle and Sunderland man made 56 starts and 26 sub appearances, scoring 19 times in a spell overshadowed by off-field issues.

Despite having had a fractious relationship with fans, particularly on social media, Chopra tweeted his thanks to all at Portman Road: "Would like to thank Ipswich Town Football Club and their fans for the support they have given me in the last two years."

He added: "New challenge and a fresh start for me. Can't wait to pull on the Blackpool FC shirt and play in front of their great supporters ."

Meanwhile, new left winger Jack Doherty has been handed the number 21 shirt.

I don't think we'll sign another striker, I think it will be a midfielder.

Strikers we have are: Nouble, Murphs, McGoldrick, and Taylor (have I missed anyone?)

That's 2 and 2 for cover. Funny because they all have different attributes, and are all completely different types of striker.

It is easy , in hindsight to say what a waste of money he was. But I was certainly ready to believe he was the answer to our goalscoring problems at the time , I didn't keep in mind mr chopra's commitment to itfc. There can be no doubt it is a good thing he has gone , he perhaps has the ability in him to be an asset to blackpool weather he wants to use it is anothet question entirely

Cardiff got rid of him and got promoted.
Goodbye Chops, enjoy playing in front of Blackpool's crowd and remember how big the crowds could have been if you'd have let your football do the talking instead of your twitter ego.

I for one am delighted Chopra has moved on, but equally disappointed that due to a number of (well publicised) reasons, it didn't work for him here. Good move for all parties. Time to draw a line and move on.

I was excited when he signed. The 20 goal striker we've always wanted playing with Connor Wickham but it never happened.
I was a bit concerned that he might find his form again with Blackpool but I checked his stats on Wiki and I wondered why I ever thought he was a great striker. Eight different clubs, pretty ordinary goal record he'll be 30 this year. He might have one decent season left. Good luck to him

It would be nice if we got Gary Hooper instead of QPR.

The + and - on these forums are a real source of amusement. One fan puts Chopra's a waste of space and 13 people agree. Next fan puts Chopra's a waste of space but in slightly different language and they get -6. Hope town are more consistent next season!

Come on folks hit the minus button I'm expecting it!!

Considering the blackpool chairman owns Wonga.com, does anybody else think Chops is going to the face of the new advert?

Billy Sharp would be an exciting signing, but i've got a funny feeling our striker situation is sorted now. We are sorted in defence and goal. We are being linked with midfielders? Our wide positions are sorted i think. I would have been happier if we had retained N'Daw, but maybe skuse can play that role? Titus would be brilliant as a midfielder i think, a really dominant presence in the centre of the park. he can score goals as well as his defencive ability, protecting the back four. We wouldn't get bullied out of any games either. A born and bred Ipswich boy at the heart of the Ipswich Town side, our very own midfield general.

Talented boy and could have been the man to guide us to the promised land and its sad that he didn't pay off the wage and transfer fee with performances but his unforgivable actions on the field will leave him forever in debt to the portman road faithful. So I would be very pleased if under armed Blackpool were to go down it would be a change to the usual old ipswich players ending up in the premier league but instead falling below us with Super Mick. Back The Boss

big gaz. for 1, if you read this site regularly ud have seen that phil has already ststed that he has repaid the debt to the club. the money was deducted form his wages each week. while im not trying to make light of the matter(its bad when any1 loses their job), if ypu read the eadt report you will see that it was 4 people made redundant from the ticket office, not 12. just so we get the facts correct. and they too would have received a payoff related to their wages. and remember that the amount paid to chopra would only hace been the difference between what he was earning here and the wages at blackpool which would be somewhat less
