Taylor Fit for Pre-Season
Thursday, 25th Apr 2013 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy says striker Paul Taylor should be fit enough to join in with the rest of the squad at the start of pre-season. The 25-year-old has been out of action since suffering a foot injury which eventually required surgery in only his third game for the Blues against Wolves in September, shortly after joining from Peterborough United for an initial fee of £1.5 million which could rise to £2.5 million.

McCarthy says the Liverpudlian is making progress and should be fine by the time pre-season training starts: “I would think so, the way he’s going.

“He’s been out kicking a ball. I would be very disappointed if he’s not. He’s got a long summer of rehabilitation in front of him, so he will be.”

While Taylor will be looking to put his injury problems behind him and get back into the Town side during 2013/14, midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas will be pushing to feature on a more regular basis, having been in and out of the team during this campaign.

Despite that, the Blues manager has been pleased with the 22-year-old since he came to the club: “He’s training well, he’s been involved.

“I have to say he’s been nothing but a model pro for me. He’s just trained all the time, even when he’s been out of the team.

“He’s seen me because he wants to play, which is fine, but he’s behaved himself impeccably and trained really well. He’s been a smashing kid.”

Could posters not make comments speculating on Taylor's court case as doing so could cause you legal problems.

Think he'll be back-up at most next season.

Nouble & McGoldrick up front for me next year.

MichaelRockyLavelle - didn't Wilshere have a similar problem and miss the whole season?

Saying he is "training" can mean a lot of different things too. Foot injuries are very slow healing and all along since MM has been here he's said we won't see him this season.

Can't wait to see Taylor in the side again, as I said before when fit potentially our best player.

I think we need to flexible in terms of formation next season. If we need to defend a lead why not play N'Daw and Hyam in front of the defence in a 4-2-3-1 formation. But then if we need a goal in the second half I would like to think we could play a 4-4-2 with JET (or Adomah if we signed him) and Taylor on the wings, Wordsworth with Hyam in the middle then either McGoldrick OR Nouble up front with someone like DJ Campbell (or even young Jack Marriott) playing off them.

I also think that Paul Taylor has a lot to repay Ipswich Town FC, although breaking the bone in his foot the club kept behind him after his problems off the ptch.

It was a very serious incident. I'd b surprised if it isn't referred to th Crown Court from May 13th onwards.

It does seem a long time to be out for, but just because the majority of foot injuries take 2-4 months doesn't mean they all do. Not every injury takes the same length of time even if they involve the same body part. As mentioned earlier Wilshere missed 14 months with an ankle problem, and think about the intensive and professional treatment he would have had from the Arsenal medical team. Ryan Taylor another who picked up an injury in a Europa League game early on in the season and has been ruled out ever since and has recently suffered a setback and will miss the whole of next season too. Don't underestimate the level of football these guys play at, it is high tempo ,non stop stuff and the foot takes alot of pressure through running, turning, landing after a jump, tackling, shooting and the worst thing would be for Taylor to return prematurely and take another knock than rules him out for a few more months, that would be a disaster. Also we are not foot surgeons and so medically we don't know the details of the injury itself so we are not in a position to speculate, hopefully he will have a good pre season and be fully fit for next season.

@Edmunds5 - you sound sensible. What are you doing here? ;-)

Injury aside, one of the things that has impressed me most about MM is his savvy man-management. In spite of all the off field shenanigans, he is always focused on the football and consistently full of praise for his team. No wonder players are performing for him. At least one point this weekend please.

What the hell is wrong with people! It's not saying he won't be there. He'll be there, it's just whether he will be joining in with the rest of the squad from the start (or doing his own programme still). How is this even being made an issue from this story. Pathetic trolling.

Even if Paul Taylor was fit to play, is it really worth it for two more games - which in all honesty will probably end up being completely pointless?

Jury still out on Taylor as far as I'm concerned. Big transfer fee for someone who has been a little disruptive since he joined.

Troubled scouser who should 'calm down' when confronted by fellow idiots.. his improving Peterborough form would be a blessing

The trouble is with any serious injury it often comes back to the player himself and how focussed he is, maybe this was a way mm was sending a message to the player????

Im loving the mark downs ,says it all when basically the difference between a mark up post and a mark down post in this thread is the idiots that mark up and down..

Bluefeast have you ever stopped spouting drivel long enough to consider whether you yourself are a moron?

No way should he start full training, god he's only just started kicking a ball after god knows how any months out, to rush him back into full training when the seasons almost over with 2 dead rubber games left would be madness.

God sometimes I wonder what people are on!

After all is said and done wish him all the best for a full recovery. Like a new signing if he gets back to 100%

Nice to see folk slagging each other off again. United we stand! I have no idea why some of you poor people are getting negatives for calm and not-controversial comments, don't take them to heart on a nice spring day! In the spirit of innocent till etc etc i maybe oughtn't be saying this, but I have an issue with professional footballers who get in scraps or worse. I'm not much of a moralist. I don't even think they should be setting an example (I can think of better examples for young people to aspire towards) - I just think it's really pathetic and unprofessional. In case PT's crack legal team is reading this, I'd just like to point out that I'm referring to footballing-scrappers in general, not to any one individual who may or may not have belted someone because he doesn't have the self-discipline to act responsibly in his semi-public role as a professional footballer whose wages my hard-earned non-scrapping dough contributes towards. Allegedly.

Though obviously I wouldn't mind him scoring and creating 40 goals next season.

What I saw of Taylor is that he had some pace and clearly some aggression but was playing in a shambles of a side so think its hard to judge
I think he has become a better player in some peoples eyes since he has been out.

He's going to have to be good for me to like him.

I have always smelt a rat with this injury thing and this player. I dont expect to see him in the squad of 13/14, something tells me that MM doesn't like or want him and sees him as damaged goods etc. Court action doesn't help
