Winter Nets Twice as U18s Win at Brentford
Saturday, 9th Mar 2013 14:34

Tom Winter (pictured) scored twice as Town’s U18s beat Brentford 2-0 at their Jersey Road training ground this morning.

The striker, who is one of the five second-year scholars to have been offered a one-year professional contract, put the Blues in front from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after Republic of Ireland U16 international Cemal Ramadan had been brought down by the keeper.

Prior to the goal, the Blues had already threatened to go in front on a couple of occasions, central defender Omar Sowunmi having a chance with a close range header and then Winter chipping a shot just wide of the far post having been put through by Cory Galvin

The scoreline remained 1-0 at the break and five minutes into the second period Sowunmi made an important challenge to keep the Blues in front with a Brentford striker through on goal.

Just after the hour mark it was 2-0 to Town. Irish U17 international striker Galvin crossed and Winter netted his second of the afternoon.

On 75 a long ball from Sowunmi found Galvin, who cut in from right and his shot was rather fortunately deflected clear.

Ten minutes before the end, sub Teddy Bishop, on for Ramadan, fed Winter, who was denied a hat-trick by a good save from keeper.

U18s: Michael Crowe, Rory Thompson, Joe Robinson, Jack Willbye, George Fowler, Omar Sowumni, Tommy Winter, Amir Berkane, Cemal Ramadan (Teddy Bishop), Matt Clarke, Cory Galvin. Subs: Jacob Marsden, Andre Dozzell, Ed Ellis, Josh Emmanuel.
