No Wellens Extension Talks Saturday, 10th Nov 2012 06:02 Richie Wellens plays the final game of his month on loan with the Blues against Burnley today with manager Mick McCarthy not yet having talked to Leicester boss Nigel Pearson about the midfielder returning to Portman Road. Wellens, 32, has impressed the new Blues boss during his two games in charge and he has said he’d ideally like to keep him for a longer spell. McCarthy says he’ll speak to his Foxes counterpart regarding the situation with Wellens unable to feature next week even if his loan was extended. “It’s his last game for this week because we play Leicester next and even if he’s here he can’t play in it,” McCarthy said. “I don’t know, I’ll try and get hold of Nigel and send an SOS out! I’ve been trying to get hold of Nigel and I’m sure I’ll speak to him, we’re all busy.” The Blues manager says he’s disappointed to be without midfielder Lee Martin for today’s game due to his one-match ban. Like his predecessor Paul Jewell, McCarthy has told the 25-year-old he has to cut the silly yellow cards out of his game: “It’s disappointing because I thought he played well at Birmingham. I thought he did well the other night as well. “It’s outright dopey him being banned for five bookings though. I didn’t realise I’d got such a tough-tackling right winger! “I’ve said that to him, I’m not saying anything to you I haven’t said to him. I’d never dream of it. I’ve told him. I expect him to tackle but not to get five bookings, for God’s sake.”
