Taylor Faces Surgery
Monday, 5th Nov 2012 13:53

Blue boss Mick McCarthy says striker Paul Taylor needs surgery on the cracked bone in his foot he suffered in the game against Wolves in September and that he is expected to be out for the season. The 25-year-old was injured in only his third match for Town having signed for an initial fee of £1.5 million from Peterborough in August.

Town had hoped that resting the injury for six weeks would all that would be needed for him to get over the problem but the frontman received the bad news after a visit to a specialist.

“Paul Taylor’s going to need surgery,” McCarthy confirmed. “He’s not going to be available to me for a while. He’s going to have surgery on his foot.

“It’s a massive blow for him, that’s the main thing. He’s a lad who is progressing in his career, everybody likes him and he’s a good little player and now he can’t play.

“My thoughts are for him. Maybe we can do something else. He can’t, he’s just got to have it operated on and get rehabbed. We’ll be fortunate to have him available this season.”

In terms of other injuries ahead of Tuesday’s game at Crystal Palace, midfielder Guirane N’Daw, who impressed his new manager at Birmingham, will be assessed having been replaced late on at St Andrew’s: “He's got cramp in both his calves and hamstrings, so we’ll see.”

Skipper Carlos Edwards took a few knocks at the weekend but is fine: “It was like they targeted him! He’s training, he’s fine.”

McCarthy says he’s yet to hear from the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation regarding Edwards being required for Soca Warriors games outside the international window later in the month.

tough break(no pun intended!)makes it more important to bring an end to whether or not lee martin is going to stay at town.i think he sees taylor as a threat to his place.this is a big opportunity for lee to show his true worth.palace is now a much bigger game after saturdays 1 0.so come on then mr martin show us what you've got.

greenkingtone. what a daft comment. yes, could see your point if theyd targeted him in as much as attacking down his side of the pitch most of the time. what mm was talking about was the bad fouls that were committed on him in the early stages of the game. can only presume you werent at the game or youd have realised that

A blow. Although I thought he was played out of position by the last manager - Taylor certainly showed some quality. Sadly, hasn't been here long enough to say he'll be missed, but our match-day squad would be all the better with him in it. As Mick says though, thoughts are with Taylor, because it's a massive blow for him personally. Get well soon.

May be a new player, who's fresh and comes back just before the end of the season.

Why did the club wait all this time seeing if it would "heal" and now he has to have an op on it. Thats wasted 6 weeks plus and we need him .

feel gutted for the guy. Looked a good player and most importantly a real tryer.

Dangnabbit. More than 28 days after purchase, even if we kept the receipt. No chance of a refund.

But in all seriousness, get fixed soon PT, we will miss you while you're gone.

I gutted this of all the players that jewell signed is going to be out so long .
The few games he played he really impressed me he reminds me a bit like a young dennis wise he never stop running and puts in so much work.
I think he will be a great little player for town and i wish him a speedy recovery

He was our buzz , the one player hungry for the ball ,although one negative as soon as he started we looked dis-jointed due not least from his roaming from out wide to more central. However he was our king pin that other lads got used to his style i felt we really had something special. Good luck to him for a swift recovery.

Have no idea why we signed him when we needed a target man, a centre mid and a centre back more. Maybe now we have to keep Martin until the end of the season.
Sure he is a good player - hope he proves it
