N'Daw and Reo-Coker Recalled for McCarthy's First Game
Saturday, 3rd Nov 2012 14:13

Nigel Reo-Coker and Guirane N’Daw - who spent last season on loan at St Andrew's - are named in Mick McCarthy’s first Town team at Birmingham. The duo take over in midfield from Luke Hyam and Josh Carson.

The Blues look set to start 4-4-2 with Daryl Murphy — who played for McCarthy at Sunderland as a striker — up front alongside DJ Campbell with Richie Wellens and Lee Martin in the wide positions.

At the back, the Blues are unchanged with Stephen Henderson again in goal. For Birmingham, ex-Blue Darren Ambrose is on the bench. Full match preview here.

Town: Henderson, Edwards, Chambers, Higginbotham, Cresswell, N'Daw, Wellens, Reo-Coker, Martin, Murphy, Campbell. Subs: Loach, Smith, Mohsni, Drury, Emmanuel-Thomas, Chopra, Scotland.

Birmingham: Butland, Robinson, Davies, Caldwell, Murphy, Redmond, Mullins, Morrison, Elliott, Lita, King. Subs: Doyle, Packwood, Diop, Ambrose, Burke, Lovenkrands, Zigic.

I want to see Josh Carson playing but at least we have gone more attacking. COYB!!!

Strange no Hyam or Carson on the bench. Best of luck lads. A win would be great.

JET benched? Now there's a start. He has bags of talent, he needs to produce it more consistently though. Maybe getting dropped will be a positive thing for him.

guys, i really dont wanna point out the massive elephant in the room here, but if what we are paying MM is true, then surely that would shatter our wage budget (and in accordance of FFP) and as a result we are no longer able to afford anyone else or risk sanctions? or are managers wages excudled from the FFP proposal? hate to be a kill joy but...

To a certain extent the first team sheet is picked by how familiar the 'names' are to the manager. Doubt if both Carson or Hyam are well known to McCarthy. Maybe over the coming weeks we might well see some of the younger players given more of a chance.

But that is all dependent on how the experienced players play.

Exactly the team I would have picked with what he's got. Experienced team in a 4 4 2. Very pleased

This is not the time for the youngsters especially one who is not up to the task - Carson.

Experienced team and that is why I think we will get at least a point. Like two up front!!

No surprises with the selection. Going for physical approach. Right choices on my opinion. It's going to take a few games and player rotations to find out who really wants to be here.

Like the look of this team but heavy on the loanees, dont think Carson is good enough for the first team not sure what he brings to the team.

1-1 today

Carson wasn't very impressive vs Wednesday (MM no doubt watched the tape), and perhaps he needs to see more from Hyam in training. Reo-Coker and N'Daw are two experienced well known players so this is hardly surprising.

Oh, and I think we'll lose today, 3-0 again. MM can't work magic in two days.

Wellens as a wide player - I hope you are kidding!

Agree with 1979. I'm surprised MM has gone with 7 loanees in his first team - I'm including Reo-Coker. I would have expected a new manager to look to give confidence to some of the clubs 'full time' players who needed a boost. I guess it just shows how bad things have gotten & how right Wellens might be. I would definitely have Hyam in the squad though.
Impressive looking Birmingham line up, a point would be a good return today.

Everyone seems to rave about Hyam and Carson - but I don't rate either that highly. Hyam's had some good games, but can't recall the last time I saw Carson play well.

Would prefer to see our own keeper Loach play and a proper right back Ainsley has started one league match Huddersfield and was MOM then so why not give him another chance apart from that I agree with the rest of the team picked.

We lack pace with this side , however if its tight compact disciplined and organsied as away fron home then great. Gut feel is we will defend to deep due to lack of pace and be under pressure from the off. Im praying for a clean sheet , you cannot lose a game of football by keeping one . COYB

4-4-2 me-arse! Here comes the Xmas Tree...

----------------- Henderson ------------------------
Edwards - Chmbers - Higginbotham - Cresswell
-------------------- N'Daw ---------------------------
----------- Wellens ----- Reo-Coker ----------------
-------------- Martin --- Murphy --------------------
------------------ Campbell -------------------------

Back 4 should have plenty of protection from the 3 grafters, enough to allow Edwards and Cresswell to bomb forward and provide width.

If it is 4-4-2, Wellens and Martin ain't widemen...

I don't often comment, but I do feel rather compelled to today due to the particularity of the situation.

Due to heavy work-load commitments and living in-between Paris and London, I'm slightly ashamed but also perfectly happy to admit that I have only seen Town play 13 times in my life. 9 times at Portman Road, and 4 times away: those being: Crewe, Rotherham, Burnley, Sheffield Wednesday at away grounds.

Why do I state this?
To let you all know that, on the balance of probabilities, we will not lose today.
Why? Fortunately enough, I am going to my first game of the season at Birmingham today and ave, incredibly enough, NEVER seen Town lose when going to watch a game.
Whilst watching Town, these are my statistics:
Won: 10
Drawn: 3.

For those who may be in doubt, may I release you of your fears. This is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Remember this comment after the game: I'm there. We won't lose.
