Posh Pair Continuing Town Talks
Wednesday, 29th Aug 2012 16:26

Posh pair George Boyd and Paul Taylor are at Town and are continuing to hold talks regarding their £2 million switch to the Blues. The duo were scheduled to undergo medicals at Portman Road this afternoon - with some sources reporting that they have now passed them - having travelled from Peterborough to negotiate their moves earlier today.

We understand that personal terms are yet to be confirmed but that the pair were set to have their medicals while their representatives held discussions with the club regarding the terms of their Town contracts.

The Blues had a joint offer accepted for the pair on Monday with Peterborough having transfer-listed them as they are out of contract next summer and had refused to sign new deals.

Town are also looking to complete the season-long loan signing of Daryl Murphy from Celtic with manager Paul Jewell also hopeful he can get other deals done - one presumably another centre-half - before Friday's 11pm deadline.

Speaking last night, Jewell said: “We’re trying to bring in not just those three, but we’re trying to bring one or two others in as well."

hard to believe that these two will cost only about 2 million when people like priskin cost the club 1.75 million

I agree with Lancsblue, if we fail to land these two it would be clear that it's the owner and CEO that are causing the problems in attracting players. Boyd is just what we need, whether he's lazy or not, he certainly scores some fantastic goals and from distance. Sincerely hope Wilson is the centre back being signed.

Regarding Smith, just check out how many MOM ratings he got on here in the run in last season. Got to be about 8 of em out of 15. That shows he's capable, strangely most of that he was on the right of the pairing with a left foot :-s I've noticed Smith seems quieter this season, I think he gets put off by chambers being the "organizer" back there.

Boyd is very technically gifted! I see a lot of people moaning that Taylor isn't a big tall striker.. So what!? I don't want to play long ball games! Nor does PJ. We have real quality in our squad once we get the ball down and play, but it's been obvious this season that we don't have creativity upfront. Chopra & Taylor will drive CB's crazy! There small, mobile and can finish anywhere inside the 18 yard box. With an attacking threat of Chopra & Taylor up top, Martin cutting in form the left and JET on the right.. I can see a lot of teams sh*tting themselves! Top 10 is a realistic target this year, if a CB comes in then top 6.
I also believe that Evans will state to PJ if we're spending this type of money now top 6 is a must. It's do or die for PJ!!

Midfield and Attacking line up of....Luongo, Hyam/N'Daw/Drury, Boyd, JET, Martin, Chopra/Taylor/Scotland is a really tasty prospect. Massive threat if on form.

A Centre Back has got to be a must before the deadline closes.

I'm really sorry GTRKing, but we don't have the luxury of allowing players time during the season to gain confidence. They are all professional players and should know what they are doing. New signings would need a couple of games to bed in with a team, but by the time you give a suspect player a season to gain confidence, he could have allowed too many oposition players in to score leaving us in a mid table position once again.

@talkSPORTDrive: warning to #itfc ,Taylor quality but he's a pain. I don't think Fergie jnr too upset about losing him off the pitch. He needs looking after

Tweeted by a big posh fan.

Still very happy to hopefully get these boys in the place

GTRKing, please learn to use some punctuation in your posts instead of just commenting incoherent garbage, I could actually sense a headache coming on after trying to wade my way through that.

If these signings come off it will be amazing, Boyd is a class act, easily one of their best if not their best player, and as for Taylor, well he aint big, but he's a decent signing.

Would rather see Tomlin here than Taylor but we will see. Have to actually sign them first.

"were set to have their medicals" after a were there is usually a but. Knew about the boyd thing a while back and have heard Taylor is half descent. What really concerns me is our defence and lack of interest in another CB as I believe smith just doesn't cut the mustard and prone to mistakes. Get these two in and please, please another recognised old skool if necessary CB. maybe evans has realised he's made a profit in the transfer market and thought best he put his hand in pocket!! lol onwards and upwards COYB

Not sure why we are in Taylor if we need a big striker as Murphy would be the tall striker that Jewell wants, However why do we need Boyd if Jewell plans to play Murphy on the left or if we go to 4-4-2 then Martin would got to the left wing, If we get these 2 do we need Murphy.

One point is that Taylor and Boyd both have the same agent, funny how they both refused contracts got a feeling that their agent will be a problem in the future.

Posh fans are saying at work (live in Peterborough) that Boyd is reported to be on 8k a week and was asking for 12k at Posh, they also are saying that Taylor is good but not a team player and that Boyd is well pass his best and lazy and will never make the prem.
Most are not bothered by Boyd going but would like to keep Taylor.

Sour grapes maybe but I still remember what the Hull fans said about Bullard

So much for tweeking the squard looks like a rebuild to me,

Taylor would keep Chopra on his toes.. we havent signed anyone yet, wish people would wait till the ink is dry.. in regards to Tommy Smith, it pains me to say, but he isnt a starter and needs to toughen up as his naivety has gone on too long

Reported transfer fees always creep up when we are buying and down when we are selling.

£2M is a lot of money, possibly worth it, but it just annoys me how other clubs keep cashing in on their players whose contracts run out next summer yet Ipswich time and time again let ours leave for free. Has Lee Martin signed? If not, why are we not selling him to fund new additions?!

We could sign Messi and it wouldnt stop us gifting goals like we do.

For the love of God Jewell, sort the bloody defence out will you !

Chopra, Scotland, Murphy, Taylor. That's a pretty tasty selection of first choice strikers. Chopra is your poacher, 15-20 goals a season man, Scotland your hold it up, score from 25 yards, bully the centre halfs 8-10 goals a season man, Murphy your tall physical presence capable of chipping in goals, and Taylor in my opinion will add pace and an eye for goal with a powerful shot on him.

Murray waiting in the wings too.
