Town Talking to Former Loanee Fuller
Town Talking to Former Loanee Fuller
Thursday, 24th May 2012 00:09

Town are understood to be in talks with out-of-contract Stoke striker Ricardo Fuller, who looks likely to leave the Britannia Stadium this summer. The one-time Blues loanee was previously linked with a return to Portman Road in April when Wigan and Cardiff were also said to be interested in the 32-year-old.

Fuller spent time on loan with Town towards the end of the 2005/06 season, scoring two goals in three games as well as picking up a red card which brought his spell to an early end.

Then-boss Joe Royle was keen to sign the Jamaican international from Southampton on a permanent basis that summer but the £500,000 fee was beyond the club at the time and Fuller joined Stoke, where he has enjoyed a highly-success six years, helping them into the Premier League in 2007/08.

However, the ex-Preston, Portsmouth and Crystal Palace man, who is currently away with Jamaica, had limited opportunities during 2011/12 and appears set to move on having made 137 starts and 71 sub appearances for the Potters and scoring 50 goals.

Town boss Paul Jewell is in the main targeting younger players this summer but may also look to augment his squad with one or two more experienced performers.

5 years too late - but he is an up and coming youngster in Jewell's way of thinking.

He'll be looking for a 'final contract offer' from someone - so here we go again - same old sh#te - nothing changes other than the season.

I would like to see him sign but as well as a younger striker too. In my opinion he's better than Scotland (who is still a good player to have on the bench) so we could have a good strike force next season.

Jas, Bill and bluey123 all back posting negative nonsense just after 5pm...I wondered what time the coach returned from the old ladies day trip to Bournemouth. I hope you all had fun moaning about the coach drivers driving, the route he took and the heat.

If he is fit enough, motivated and will be willing to take a relatively low wage then I would say yes. However if he no longer has the legs, is just after a last contract, and wants £20k per week then no.

no no no....have we not learnt any lessons!?! some people assume as he has played in the Premiership (of late) he will be the same player returning to the Championship some 3 years later and now 32 years of age (and partially looking like his legs are going) - not the player we are looking for, move on!

Also I would back Scotland to be fitter than Fuller at present.

Can't have 2 older strikers, doesnt matter how they good they were. On the other hand I do like Fuller but we need younger players.

Not the kind of signing we were hoping for, but I guess these are the cheap end of the market pj is looking at as ME has quite rightly tightens the purse strings after pj wasted the budget on has been veterans last season!would rather we looked at younger players with potential to build a team for promotion push in next couple of years,as quick fixes don't work!

Stoke Fan here, if you do sign Ricardo Fuller you are getting one of the best players I have seen in 40 years of watching Stoke, and in my opinion he is still the best striker we have by a country mile.
His treatment by our manager for the last 18 months has bordered on criminal they supposedly fell out when Ric asked for a contract extension and since then he has hardly played and when he has it has been as a winger.
Despite this he has still shown that he has still got the pace and power that made him such a special player for us and without doubt he is the main we reason we went up and stayed up for the first two seasons.

Rejoice if he signs for you as you're getting one hell of a player even at 32!

Stoke fan here also, RF10 (as he has been christened by us Stokies), is the best player I have seen in 20yrs supporting Stoke. He is still our most creative player and was criminally under-used by Pulis this season, he will be seen by some as lazy (he is not lazy, just plays in bursts (possibly due to his age), he is not as quick as he was (obviously again, given his age), but he is still the only player in our squad who could turn a game, he is that good!!!! You will have one hell of a player in your squad and I for one will be gutted if he does leave Stoke. And i will be definitely Sky+ing The Football League Show come August if you do sign him. He will win you countless free-kicks, will bamboozle defenders and have you on the edge of your seats whenever he gets the ball.

Thanks Stoke fans, interesting read. Ipswich fans know all about bad management of great players, that's why you have Jon Walters!! :-(

decent player, do we need him though? similar to scotland, need a finisher, who can bag us 20+ goals, dissapointed in chopra, who we all thought could bag us around the 20 goals mark.
how about: connor wickham(loan) baldock(loan)or messi?

Thanks to the two Stoke fans. I agree. Ricardo Fuller has consistently scored some of the best goals I have seen during his Stoke career and I am sure he would do the same at Town. He is a class act and if the whingers on this site think that there are any young strikers in the lower leagues half as good as RF they are even more deluded than I thought they were.
The game is about goals - you can't win a football match without scoring them. I am confident that PJ will have brought in a decent goalkeeper, centre back and one other defender by the start of pre-season training, but I cannot wait to see us playing 442 with any 2 from Chopra, Fuller and Scotland and Martin given a free role in the midfield behind them. he is a good player but i don't think he will get over 15 goals for us and he has a bad disciplinary record
