Town Talking to Former Loanee Fuller
Town Talking to Former Loanee Fuller
Thursday, 24th May 2012 00:09

Town are understood to be in talks with out-of-contract Stoke striker Ricardo Fuller, who looks likely to leave the Britannia Stadium this summer. The one-time Blues loanee was previously linked with a return to Portman Road in April when Wigan and Cardiff were also said to be interested in the 32-year-old.

Fuller spent time on loan with Town towards the end of the 2005/06 season, scoring two goals in three games as well as picking up a red card which brought his spell to an early end.

Then-boss Joe Royle was keen to sign the Jamaican international from Southampton on a permanent basis that summer but the £500,000 fee was beyond the club at the time and Fuller joined Stoke, where he has enjoyed a highly-success six years, helping them into the Premier League in 2007/08.

However, the ex-Preston, Portsmouth and Crystal Palace man, who is currently away with Jamaica, had limited opportunities during 2011/12 and appears set to move on having made 137 starts and 71 sub appearances for the Potters and scoring 50 goals.

Town boss Paul Jewell is in the main targeting younger players this summer but may also look to augment his squad with one or two more experienced performers.

Let me tell you all Scotland would not get a look in if Fuller joins, except if he is injured.

If we signed fuller it would be a great forward line with chopra & Scotland at championship level.
Then again do we really need him? He's 32 now.
I think it would be good to give chopra & Scotland some competition up front but with someone younger. When are thinking about signing a defender or 2??

Everyone's a manager.

Walberswick. Whenever I see the words " haven't a clue" I think of you.

Yes if Scotland stays, no if he doesn't

JEWELLIO ! on the books we already have /// Scotland, 33, Bullard, 34, Edwards 33, Delaney, 31, Ellington,31. How many more over 30s do you need to compliment the team with ?????? and do not say look at K. Phillips, because he is just a one off special ????

Agree with Garv on this one: could very much go either way, i.e. a big success or a big flop. If he could keep fit, he's a very annoying player for defenders to deal with. If I had to come down off the fence, I'd say "go for it" personally.

He is 6' 1" we need some height up front and a bit of muscle.

Would make an excellent addition to the depleted strike force.

Brittaniaman - 5 over 30's in a squad of 22 hardly make us Dad's Army does it? Let's face it 31 is nowhere near too old, so your list really only points to 3 players and one of those (Edwards) was one of our best players last year.

50/50 on this one to be honest.

On the one hand I can see it working but on the other I can see another Ellington situation looming!

He would do a good job for us.

Age is just a number, fitness, form and ability are what counts. He clearly has the latter, but after the Ingimarsson debacle I'm not sure I trust PJ to properly assess the former. I'd have the 2006 Ricardo Fuller back in a heartbeat.

FFS these are only rumours! Slating PJ / Clegg / ME and going off on one when its not even been confirmed is just stupid.

casanovacrow - Reading fans went mad on Roberts, not because of his goals but those he created and his hold up play in general. Not sure Fuller would do such a good job, but you never know.

inclined to agree with you SouperJim, Ricardo of a few years ago ,would have been something to get excited about. However he probably still has enough to be useful. That said Scotland has been a genuine team player and despite a lot of blind criticism at start has done a decent job.Would Fuller do any better? not so sure .

surely we would only sign Fuller if Scotland didn't sign

Would be good at this level despite his age - youth will be the focus this summer but no harm in a bit of experience

hunty21 added 10:11 - May 24
we hav learnt that actually experience and lack of pace and fittness does do alot of harm in terms of experience we need a mixture of 24-28 age and younger that what id class as experience and youth

If we release Jason Scotland, WE ARE DOOMED, he's by far the best playerin this league let alone club

I think Phil is saying its more than just rumour 'Town understood to be in talks'.

Really not sure about this, I would have thought that we need someone with a bit of pace up top, would be a reasonable replacement for Scotland but I would prefer to keep Scotland, Murphy would provide a physical presence if we need it but PJ seems to play one up front so I am not sure where he would fit in.

Assuming he doesn't want massive wages he'd be a good squad player to replace Ellington but i'd still prefer someone who isn't 32 to sign!!
