Stockdale Back at Fulham
Stockdale Back at Fulham

Loan keeper David Stockdale has returned to his parent club Fulham after their first-choice glovesman Mark Schwarzer was ruled out for up to six weeks due to a neck injury. The Cottagers inserted a 24-hour recall clause in the deal when Stockdale joined the Blues on a season-long loan in the summer.

Yesterday, Fulham boss Martin Jol appeared hopeful that the Australian veteran’s problem wasn’t too serious and that he would be fit enough to play in this evening’s Europa League game against Danish side Odense. However, after the 39-year-old saw a specialist, he was diagnosed with a compression injury to his thoracic spine, which will keep him out for four to six weeks, leading to the decision to bring Stockdale back from Town.

The 26-year-old could return to Portman Road in January on a half-season loan if and when Schwarzer is fit with Stockdale understood to have been happy with the Blues.

Richard Wright could come back into the Town side for Saturday’s home match against Derby with the ex-England man close to a recovery from his shoulder injury. If not, Arran Lee-Barrett will start with US U20 international keeper Cody Cropper on the bench.

Stockdale, who was spotted out celebrating Christmas with Town’s other keepers in Woodbridge last night, made 18 appearances for the Blues, conceding 35 goals.

SORRY HIT THE WRONG KEY. I do not think Richard Grant will be fit for most of the games? He has had problems all last season and with Town at present/ So we may need another quality keeper. ALB should play regular in towns team if not why have we signed him, Give him his chance/ ? Cropper our next Long Term No1 keeper but still on the young side as yet ,but could still make a good addition to the side when needed. Our main problem is Defence need good youthful players in there, eager to make their name. Money needs to be spent on players that we need to keep and build the Team. COYB

we'd have never got Stockdale on loan without the 24 hr recall.

Gutted to hear this. to all the people saying hes not that good, if it wasn't for him being between the sticks there would have been a hell of a lot more 7-1's like the peterborough game! Definately need a permanent replacement in January!

Actually not that worried about this one, more the collective possibility of losing Collins, Andrews and Stockdale... that will be difficult to handle and as always, the reason we are crazy to rely on loan signings. You could argue Stockdale was at fault for all 3 Barnsley goals, 1st penalty, i felt he had a chance with the 2nd altho Bowyer left his position and the 3rd he moved to left as the guy hit it and was wrong-footed...it actually wasnt that amazing a free-kick if he had held his starting position. Anyway, super-critical maybe and a lot better than Wright or ALB but the transfer window is coming up, so problem solved.

Question for the Club: if we are in this for the "long-term" why are we relying on over 30s and loan signings?? ok, a mix of youth and experience but i would much prefer to see 8 "under 22s" playing with 3 "over 28s" and an emphasis on the Academy, bringing thru players and looking to sign young talent..... Townsend and Livermore spring to mind as a start... get the ball on the floor and entertain boys.

Final point... wasnt last Saturday stunning!! never, ever saw that coming..... a huge congrats for standing up and being men.

Just some thoughts whist bored in the office.....!!

Fulham are in trouble now

Stockdale in goal and their defence looks worse than ours

Stockdale saved us on numerous occasions. A very good keeper, has had plenty of practice due to a bloody awful defence in front of him & has probably suffered from long term back injury from having to bend over picking the ball out from the back of the net. Now we,re well & truly stuffed. Is Wrighty fit???

The phrase rhymes with 'Clucking Bell'!!!
Having said that Wright will be fine as long as the defence perform to their best...hang on a minute.......!!!!

Agree with jas0999 (didn't ever expect to say that!) this really isn't a huge disaster. Wright will be fine for two or three games and then it's January. Also, I'm pretty sure people said ALB actually played quite well against Burnley, despite the 4 goals. Stockdale is very good, but Saturday showed he isn't perfect, so let's give Jewell the chance to look at someone else/wright and ALB the chance to prove themselves before we all go for the doom and gloom approach again.

I think Wrighty will do well and i agree with the posts that Stockdale isn't 'Captain Fantastic' but what worries me is the poor deals that seem to being done behind the scenes that affect our club.
- Stockdale 24 hour recall clause.Thank god we've only just signed Wrighty.
- Chopra - Club pays/lends him to pay his £250,000 gambling debts. No wonder he signed for Ipswich!!
- Bullard - signs for 2 year deal .....then we insist he moves to Ipswich region?
In all 3 instances poor negotation from Clegg.
I'll say it again and again what does this man know about football and what is he doing to our beloved club? Clegg and PJ to follow soon after.
Its a shambles.

tellitasiseeit, I hope Richard Grant is the answer to our problems, hopefully the new Shilts?
Because all due respect to ALB, he's not quite up to championship level and Wrighty has played so little football over the years he almost looks inexperienced, maybe he is. He's what 34, but probably has the 1st team experience of a 24 year old, he should come good by the time he's 40!

This has as expected come to haunt us. It was a bad deal as the risk of recall was too great and 24 hours was never going to be enough. Just imagine if our other two keepers were unavailable we'd have CC with no back up.
PJ should have found keeper with better deal (ie season long loan) or signed one of the many keepers around that hvae been bench warming for too long. Other clubs manage so why cant we get it right for once. Agian this is all down to Clegg, he just doesnt get it!!!

Dissboyitfc He,He, you are correct on pulling me up on this one. Where the Hell did I get the name Grant from? Sorry about that must of been thinking of something else at the time. I am sure Richard Wright will forgive me this one time. Any way Dissboyitfc well spotted COYB
