Stockdale Back at Fulham
Stockdale Back at Fulham
Wednesday, 14th Dec 2011 16:30

Loan keeper David Stockdale has returned to his parent club Fulham after their first-choice glovesman Mark Schwarzer was ruled out for up to six weeks due to a neck injury. The Cottagers inserted a 24-hour recall clause in the deal when Stockdale joined the Blues on a season-long loan in the summer.

Yesterday, Fulham boss Martin Jol appeared hopeful that the Australian veteran’s problem wasn’t too serious and that he would be fit enough to play in this evening’s Europa League game against Danish side Odense. However, after the 39-year-old saw a specialist, he was diagnosed with a compression injury to his thoracic spine, which will keep him out for four to six weeks, leading to the decision to bring Stockdale back from Town.

The 26-year-old could return to Portman Road in January on a half-season loan if and when Schwarzer is fit with Stockdale understood to have been happy with the Blues.

Richard Wright could come back into the Town side for Saturday’s home match against Derby with the ex-England man close to a recovery from his shoulder injury. If not, Arran Lee-Barrett will start with US U20 international keeper Cody Cropper on the bench.

Stockdale, who was spotted out celebrating Christmas with Town’s other keepers in Woodbridge last night, made 18 appearances for the Blues, conceding 35 goals.

What would honestly be the point in bringing him back in January when we know fulham will never let us have him permenantly! Try for a new keeper in January, personally I would like scott loach, good keeper and loves the club!

Poor management at the end of the day. It was always going to happen at some point- this summer, we signed a keeper on loan with a recall option and waved goodbye to Fulop leaving an inept goalkeeper and a rooky as our only 2 contractd goalies, and this was bound to happen.

Ohwell, I thought he was distinctly average for us anyway, time to sign a good keeper in January...

For one i see this as another balls up by clegg and co loaning someone with a 24 hour clause when they knew that if schwartzer was injured that he would be called back...
If wright is fit he has to play ahead of alb.
CLEGG OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE NEED FOOTBALL PEOPLE RUNNING THE CLUB

To be honest a keeper is the least of our problems, Wrighty is good enough at this level and I am glad we had the foresight to sign him when we did to cover this eventuality, Stockdale was only ever going to be a temporary solution and was only ever likely to sign if we got promoted this season, which looks a tad unlikely. Good management in my opinion.
I think there are better options than Loach as he is unconvincing imo.

And we will soon be left with one loanee when Andrews and Collins decide to not re-new there loans.

Don't panic folks. ALB is very capable and can do a good job.

Hopefully RW won't be picked ahead of him again. It was a mistake last time and it will be a mistake this time.

Stockdale was lucky not to get red carded on Saturday and would have missed the next 3 games. If he had upended the forward later in the game the ref would have been likely to have red carded him. Stockdale has done a good job, but he isn't the finished article yet.

Have faith in richard and ALB.
They will both step up to the plate.
be more concerned with our right back,
collins and andrews leaving
and sonko spending more time injuried than playing.

He is not that great. Gives Wrighty a chance to redescover his form from early in the Keane era.

Really surprised to come on here and read these comments raving about this being awful news, not great news no but certainly not our biggest concern right now. Having initially been very excited and impressed with DS I really don't think he has been fantastic for us. Good young keeper but not really done anything brilliant. No, Wright is not good enough either and we will need someone else to come in in Jan but I think we needed that anyway, at least now we will definitely go out and get somebody.

Scott Loach - probably could have signed him last summer for the amount of cash we've probably thrown into the Stockdale deal.

Why all the worry, all we need to do is attack like we did second half on Saturday, if the ball is in Derby half they cannot score.
Our problem all season has been let teams dictate the play instead of us pressing them, we did the pressing because we had no choice 2nd half at Barnsley and look at the result.

Juggsy "Scott Loach - probably could have signed him last summer for the amount of cash we've probably thrown into the Stockdale deal."

I don't think we paid a loan fee as I am (possibly wrongly) aware that if a fee is paid it cancels out the recall clause?

The deal was we can have a keeper as long as your 39 year old keeper stays fit. the chances of that lasting a season are as remote as PJ getting us promoted this year.

This is the problem with loans.... within a week we will lose the spine of our team: Stockdale, Collins & Andrews. Jan is only just round the corner though. GK, RB, CB and CM needed

Despite having the England no 3 keeper we have the worst defence in the Championship. The problem is not the keeper, it's what is going on in front of him. Unless we can sort out the defence/midfield, it doesn't matter much whether we have Stockdale/Wright/ALB because we are going to concede far too many goals.

Well with the ever unfolding calamities in our defence, or total lack of one! This can be put down to exceptionally poor forward planing on the part of PJ and SC.

WE now have to get through a busy Xmas period with, essentially a joke of a "defence"

ALB ( not good enough)
Wrighty (not good enough / lacks any real match practice over how many YEARS?)
Edwards, (Mr Liability)
Ivar & Sonko (both injury prone and SLOW)
Delaney (out Injured)
Smith (not good enough)
Cresswell (The only Real defender with quality)
