Tune for the Town?
Tune for the Town?
Sunday, 28th Aug 2011 09:16

Town are offering fans the chance to definitively vote on whether goal celebration music will be played at Portman Road, and if so which tune will ring around the stands.

Some of the tracks up for the vote are the ones supplied to the Supporters’ Club when they asked for original tunes last season, while the new version of Singing the Blues played at the Southampton game, The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger and the options of none of the above or no music at all are also on the list.

To hear all the choices and to vote, visit the club site with the results to be announced prior to the Coventry City match on Monday 19th September.

Meanwhile, fans will be given the chance to celebrate their own Portman Road goals via an auction to raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer later in the year.

Bidders will be able to win a place in the teams for the match and training sessions under the guidance of Town stars from Robson’s era, while there will also be the opportunity to be a ‘club owner’ and sit in the directors’ box and make use of the boardroom facilities. Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Auction will take place in October.

To be honest I think tom hark was our best goal music, but i'm not to bothered if we have no music when we score.

I'd either go with no music at all which was completely fine againest Leeds.....or " i just can't get enough!"

Those samples are shocking!! Would have to keep the 'Dagger song'.
Brockleyblue boy- The noise was good in Sir bobby stand yesterday in the second half especially. If I was an away fan in the cobbold stand chanting towards the south stand I to would think there support is crap but only for generating no noise. It's a shame but there will only be one stand!

Also would it be possible to get facebook style 'like' options for each comment made on here, there are some really good points madecby fans on here but I can never be bothered to write comments agreeing.

Just a thought

Planet phunk - Chase the sun -- the Pdc darts song from sky. Kevin 'the Artist' Painter would agree.

The problem we have here is we are not making enough noise ourselves. So either of 2 things can happen either make a lot of noise and get behind the team and sing our own songs when we score and say no to music being played OR continue being quiet and play some crappy pop music that embarasses half of the supporters with the cheeseyness of it all. I vote for option one and make other teams believe we have good support and get a real atmosphere going!

No music, we've already done this one to death (I also noticed that, unlike with the last poll, we can't see the 'current' results of the poll after we've submitted our vote).

What's the bet that those in favour of music sit in Britannia, Cobbold and South? I accept these fans don't like to provide vocal support for the team, but surely they can find a sufficient level of passion to stand up and celebrate a little without having to hide behind the artificial noise created by the tannoy system.

Come on people, there's no need for music. If, when we score, you honestly feel the need for a cue to then clap your hands a little and get out of your seat, perhaps you need to reconsider your passion for football in general, not just Ipswich Town. If, alternatively, you'd just appreciate a bit more volume around you when we score; well, that's a sad state of affairs in the area of the stadium that you sit.

As someone who tends to sit in the SBRL whenever possible, I can't help but feel the injection of hollow, simulated music would only dampen the genuine emotions that come with scoring a goal. Chelsea Dagger drowning out fans' real celebrations would be a great shame in my book. There's no awkwardness where I sit after we score, that I can assure you.

If you can't hear much noise where you sit, other options to goal music include: 1. relocating to somewhere louder 2. making the first step yourself to getting a better atmosphere going in your area 3. plugging in your earphones and boogying away to your favourite piece of Disco-Funk.

A compromise would be to only play goal music in the two corners of the ground furthest from the North Stand, rather than have it blaring away in every loudspeaker. It's clear I'm fighting a losing battle, though. Otherwise, why ignore the official poll carried out earlier this year? The fans have already spoken and the message isn't to the liking of the minority that can make the executive decision. Why bother giving us a chance to express our opinions at all? What a load of guff.

Away games - we score, we continue singing for a bit
Home games - we score, we cheer for about 10 seconds then it gets awkward and everyone claps because there is no music, the we sit down and we are back in the library.

Get a song, preferably 'Glad All Over'. They play it at Blackpool and everyone joins in with the glad all over bit.

As far as Asa's song goes, I'd prefer it played before and after the match or at halftime.

My second option would of course be legoman's recording of the GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAALA Paraguayan bloke, accompanied by South American trumpets.

That or a piece of music where the words need to be shouted out by us.

Thinking about it, no, just no.

No music- the whole play a song thing is just a modern uninspired effort to inject new " hey we are down with the fans innit, right on ism ". Lets hear an honest goal celebration rather than have a plastic erzatz dirge. What we need are more songs to sing rather than short chants like the I am East Anglian Anarchy song. Failing that Keep Right On To The End Of The Road, but then I'm an old fart.
Since they re did the ground the noise has been less, to my mind because of acoustics and the only way to change that is to get bigger crowds and better football or move the away section closer to the North. The away fans are helped because they stand so high up just below the roof which forces the noise out onto the pitch.

The PA in the Britannia anyway is not fit for purpose as quality of audio is awful.

either no music, or someone with different ideas who can surprise the crowd with some funny/top tunes after each goal. It would be more enjoyable not knowing what 's coming even if he got it wrong.

How about 4 different songs, one in each stand? Maybe:

North - No music. We're capable of making our own noise thank you very much.
Cobbold - Maybe a funeral march. Seems fitting to the people there.
South - A recording of a stern librarian hushing.
Britannia - Something to entertain the kids perhaps, maybe the birdy song.

Or we could go a stage further and play crowd noises to save everyone the trouble of making noise themselves.

I like the music and would go with Singing the Blues. Can understand why people don't like it though. Perhaps the club will listen to the fans this time round?
