Town Again Linked With Chopra Bid
Town Again Linked With Chopra Bid
Tuesday, 7th Jun 2011 20:55

Town continue to be linked with a bid for Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra. The Blues, who former manager Roy Keane targeted last summer, are again reported to have made an offer for the 27-year-old former Newcastle and Sunderland frontman.

Late last month, Town were understood to have turned their attention towards Chopra, having had a £2.3 million offer for Doncaster’s Billy Sharp rejected.

Cardiff, who recently sacked manager Dave Jones, were believed to be waiting until the appointment of their new boss to make a decision on whether to allow Chopra to leave with a bid of £1 million said to have been lodged, although some sources have suggested that the Welsh club are looking to recoup more of the £4 million they paid Sunderland in July 2009 with a fee of £2.5 million mooted.

More recently it has been claimed that the Welsh club could allow Chopra to leave even before the appointment of Jones's successor, perhaps with Town becoming impatient regarding the situation.

Elsewhere, Watford’s Danny Graham, linked with the Blues earlier in the summer, has completed his £3.5 million move from Watford to Swansea, signing a four-year contract.

h32, you obviously took a few years out during John Duncemans tenure at the club then. That was a club in demise, but a sensible appointment, Mr Lyall, rebuilt the team in 2 seasons with very little financial support. As for Mr Evans, without his backing, ITFC would be in a far worse place than at present. Paul Jewell will be backed financially, but there are limits to what the club are prepared to pay which make sound sense, or would you rather we spend over the odds with no gaurantee of success & end up in serious financial trouble. If you believe Mr Evans is going to throw money endlessly at the team, you are seriously deluded my friend, i for one don,t blame him for not doing so. Would you in his position. I think not.

Kuqicoo, good post sir. Ive been saying on here for a while, be patient, the signings will happen, but only when the right players for our club are available at the right price etc. Mr Jewell is a fine manager who stated when he arrived that it was a 2 year project to achieve promotion, not a quick fix as many on here seem to think should happen. We have no devine right to be in the premier league, this will be achieved through hard work & our management team,s coaching skills etc.

Of course this constant being linked to a mulititude of players could be a very clever ploy by ITFC - as NOBODY has a flying f@ of an idea who we are interested in now !!

Would like it to happen, but considering the amount of players we are being linked with at the moment i would believe a single one of them!

I wish Phil would only put set to sign, having a medical, agreed terms, we have been linked with bout 20-30 since the season finished. End of the day if Paul Jewell wasn't getting the players in he wants surely he would up & leave. Most managers/players/directors/chairman/owners are mostly on holiday at the mo, I'm sure once Jewell is back at the club signing will happen it is still only June 8th I would like us to sign St Ledger & Tracey from Preston, Dyer/Danns/Nugent on frees & Danny Green Dagenham & cresswell Tranmere & another striker, Baldock or Le Fondre

@h32 So you are complaining because the club is not keeping us advised on what is going on? When they do tell us they are close to signing some other club comes in with a late bid then offers more money to to the player then people like you start blaming Clegg I mean it must be his fault let's not let the fact he has to work within a budget laid out for him...let's just blame him....

Better the club keep their mouths shut and let the papers speculate all they want. So far it seems to be the selling club opening their mouths probably to start a bidding war which I am happy to say we won't be apart of.

You expect ME to throw money at getting players but he didn't get rich without keep hold of his purse strings....he'll make money available but wants value for money and he wants everything worked within the budget.

I have supported the club since 1969, I gave seen great times I have seen bad times and at the moment this is in no way a bad time. So stop shouting that the sky is falling because it really isn't.....

Starting to wonder what our scouts actually do.
We seem to be linked to the same old players time and time again....

I haven't been linked yet, but I could be if it helps !

I've got dodgey knees, don't mind warming a bench and I'm cheap [ anything above my pension and I'll sign ]. Sounds like I've got all the right credentials.

P.S This is definately not just paper talk !

A £1million bid has been made according to the BBC website...Least it's not in the Daily Mail.. or is it??

WeWereZombies added 08:41 - Jun 8
This is the first of the 'linked with' stories that has turned up on the BBC website so I think we can justly suspect that a firm bid of £1m has been made to Cardiff for Chopra.

It will all go fine and dandy until it comes to the wage bit. Then numpty Clegg will offer Chops £500 and a £2.99 goal add on bonus and it will be game over!
I hope numpty Clegg realises that quality players need paying quality wages.....If not we will end up with the dregs...........

'Town linked to a string of sausages'.
Seriously though, often, football's a case of smoke and mirrors.
Very, very few are actually privvy to the real business end of things.
In Jewell we trust.
