Mackail-Smith Link Dismissed
Mackail-Smith Link Dismissed
Monday, 9th May 2011 15:59

Blues boss Paul Jewell has dismissed links with Peterborough United frontman Craig Mackail-Smith. The Town manager and members of his staff have been spotted at Posh matches in recent months, which has led to speculation that the 27-year-old striker was on his radar.

Jewell says the former Dagenham and Redbridge man wasn’t the reason for his trips: “I am looking for goalscorers, but there is no truth in the Mackail-Smith stories.”

Left midfielder George Boyd and keeper Joe Lewis are the two other members of the Peterborough squad often tipped for moves to bigger clubs.

The Blues boss is keen to sign one, probably two, strikers during the summer but is also keen to hold on to at least one of his current frontmen: “Connor will not have to leave because we need the money. But like every club we are susceptible to any big offers that might come in.

“Connor indicates to me that he wants to stay and in my opinion he’ll be better off playing for Ipswich, a team that will hopefully next season be going for success.”

Not hugely surprising given that Peterborough want a big fee for him and interest from Prem teams. PJ has a lot to do with a finite budget and will have to be much more careful about bringing in the right players than his predecessor...

Good! Hasn't got much experience at this level and already 27 so unlikely to improve.

Think there ar much better out there for the money and would worry this was a Parkin all over again.

We need someone to play alongside Wickham, so I'd suggest Sharp or someone of the small and nippy type player

Would like us to try for Nugent and Sharpe , can't see Nugent coming nut worth a punt on a free.

I live near Peterborough and have seen Mackail-Smith play quite a number of times over the last 2/3 years and I rate him highly. His performance in the 0-0 game at PR last season was excellent even though he didn't score; I'm disappointed that he's not on PJ's radar - too pricey I suppose but I reckon he 's good enough to score goals in a higher division than League 1.

I wouldnt have minded him but i think Posh put a £2 million price tag on him and i dont think hes worth that much considering that hes 27 so we would only get a couple of seasons out of him before he does a 'Scotland'. Much rather spend that money on Billy Sharp instead who is still young and hungry.

What does he mean hopefully? Surely we're going for success aren't we?

Peterboro's season hasn't finished yet as they will be involved with the play-offs in Div1
So until where they'll be playing their football next season
none of their star players will be moving on till it's decided
and then only if they remain in their present league.
Simples...

We need to sign at least TWO strikers - even more if Wickham and Priskin leave as well.

Good, could well be a one season wonder! Boyd and/or Lewis much more likely.

That doesn't mean JP is not after him. He just dismisses the fact he was there to watch him. Anyways nothing is certain so we will see but it is vital to get TWO good strikers. Agree with Tillz9 that Nugent and Sharpe would be a very good pair. But I just don't believe after all this drama around him coming to PR, Nugent will actually do it for a fact...

Seen a lot of Mackail-Smith, definitely good enough for Champ and will move on in the summer for 2M, however I don't think we will be paying 2M for anyone and why should Posh or Doncaster sell CMS or Sharp for less, if you want to know our front 2 for next season, then step forward Priskin and Scotland, we won't be making any big signings, just a few from the lower leagues and our midfield will be Drury, Healy, Martin and Hyam, they will sell Leadbitter if they can get a fee, money is a problem especially with only 10K season ticket holders, we are in a mess I'm afraid.
