Burley Sacked By Palace
Saturday, 1st Jan 2011 17:16

Former Blues boss George Burley has been sacked by Crystal Palace having only taken over at Selhurst Park in the summer. The Eagles are 23rd in the Championship and lost 3-0 to Millwall earlier today.

A statement on Palace's website reads: "George Burley has today been relieved of his duties as first team manager of Crystal Palace FC.

"We would like to thank George for his dedication and hard work and share his regret that things didn't work out for him here."

Former striker Dougie Freedman has been appointed caretaker-manager

Wouldn't mind Burley coming back, he could get us to play football the Ipswich way again *sigh*

With Palace's escape from relegation on the last day of last season and their financial troubles, it was always going to be a tough job for Burley. I'm sorry for him that it did not work out.

With all these managers going how does Keane keep his job? Despite having spent around £12M on 25 players during his time here, Keane's side is only 4 places ahead of Burley's in the table today.

bring him back to town, even if it is as the elusive assistant manager RK is still looking for

Yep, he would do, give him a short term contract, oh and ask him to bring Darren Ambrose with him, now there's a novelty, a creative midfielder who can score goals, on second thoughts he probably would'nt fit in here !

yeh bring back Burley and give him money to spend, maybe another finidi or sereni! then watch the moaning about quality additions. yeh he could even bring Pablo back to teach the squad to fall over! Unbelievable, get behind the manager and team we have!

Keane Out! Burley In!

I give up on some of you deluded people. Burley gave us great times and then destroyed the club with terrible signings, Sereni and George not even the worst.

Sacked by Scotland, Palace, Hearts to name a few....move on people.

He's a Town legend but he's not the answer now.

There's no way he's gonna be coming to town, the club are not going to get rid of Keane, however much we want Keane to go.
Besides, Burley hasn't done well at the last clubs he's been at, Crystal Palace, Hearts, Scotland...

Keane is destroying the club so would take anyone at the minute

ttry thank goodness someone else agrees with me. Burley has been a flop almost everywhere he has been and because Sheepshanks trusted him with our money we are in the state we are today (Not helped by RK I may add). Burley wasted more money than Keane has and yet you want him back. It is unbelievable - I'd rather have Jim and thats saying something. If Keane does go it has to be Curbs and Holland for me but Keano is going nowehere.

Yes we all love Burley here, and he has been a great man for this club as player and manager. But no matter where he is including ITFC, if his team is not winning, he do not seem to have an idea how to turn it around.
I do not think he is the person to take us forward. I am not someone who likes to see managers sacked just for fun, as seems to be the way in this current game. I do not want Keano out right now as I think he can get us back into safety and mid table. But I would not be happy if his contract was renewed.
I do like the pairing of Curbs and Holland taking over in the summer though. Get the deal sorted ME!

forgive me, were we in finacial problems due to burley or an over zealous chairman who bought 2 new stands after one good season???/

Exactly curiousblue. I also remember him doing well with Southampton and Derby as well as Hearts towards the top of the SP when he left. I also remember him sticking to his morales by dropping those 2 yobbish thugs who acted like spoiled brats when at Scotland. Not many managers would have the balls to drop 2 of their best players when they act the same way now.

I also remember some him providing some bloody good football whilst at Town some i've not seen at PR for a while.

currently Keane is at £3.5m 'nett' and with Wickham valued at £8m+ his balance sheet is fine, the problem is Martin and Priskin make up most of that current 'nett' loss

I can't believe what I'm reading! Bring back George?! You people moan about Roy's signings - what about George, serini, Karic and Le Pen??

And what has George achieved since he left us? Palace haven't sacked him for being good I'm afraid!

Don't get me wrong, Burley was on the whole a good manager for us, but eventually it went downhill. If we get rid of Roy, then Burley would be a huge backward step.

burleys managerial career after town

derby - resigned - player sold wthout burley knowing (formed a side with no money)
hearts - mutual agreement (3rd at the time in the SPL)- Romanov caused havoc there
southampton - left to go to Scotland
scotland - really can you perform miracles with the jocks?????
which brings us to crystal palace - didnt work out and was sacked

is that a bad record?

As much as we all like George I don't think he is the man to fire us up the table.Different time different era. Sorry..

Well, it would be good to have someone on the job who wasn't destined to repeat his mistakes ad nauseam.
Keane as manager is a loser. Because he is divisive.

Stow Tractor boy - are you for real!!? Burley's done well everywhere he's been with the exception of Scotland and Palace. Even my Palace mate's have said he'd got them playing some decent football and anyone saying he hasn't done anything since Ipswich is an idiot!
He won 8 out of 10 at Hearts before a disagreement with the board. He then took struggling Southampton and Derby sides to the play-offs within 2 seasons so maybe have a little look at his career first before you talk jibberish!

Burley over Keane? Any day.

What is wrong with you people? Burley was brilliant here but that's history now, we have Keane like it or not, i am in the not brigade but will continue to support my beloved club whoever is in charge. We have to realise that ME has no intention of sacking him so we have to hope he can sign a couple of players that are worth having. A quick return to Burley, he quit Hearts due to a meddling chairman and they were top of the SPL at the time, just a little vote on his side there.

HighSeasBlue added 19:23 - Jan 1
Not sure if it is ever wise to go back. Burley did mess up towards then end but we played good football under him. It's a tough one to call, but, Curbs has to be an option should Keane go and leave the Burley era to the past.
