Burley Sacked By Palace
Burley Sacked By Palace
Saturday, 1st Jan 2011 17:16

Former Blues boss George Burley has been sacked by Crystal Palace having only taken over at Selhurst Park in the summer. The Eagles are 23rd in the Championship and lost 3-0 to Millwall earlier today.

A statement on Palace's website reads: "George Burley has today been relieved of his duties as first team manager of Crystal Palace FC.

"We would like to thank George for his dedication and hard work and share his regret that things didn't work out for him here."

Former striker Dougie Freedman has been appointed caretaker-manager

Terrible decision! Very sorry for George. I hope Palace go down now.

The fact Palace only gave Burley 6 months and then sacked him despite him having no money to change what was a team in crisis, shows how lucky Keane is to still be ITFC manager. 6 months is not giving a manager ong enough but Keane has had 20 months yet ITFC seem to have gone backwards results wise, which of course is what matters most in football industry.
As for a choice between Keane and Burley as ITFC manager it would be Burley for me but as others have said that is now in the past. I wish George all the best and hope things get better for us here at ITFC soon

tractaboy, burley did well at derby???? mayb that why they sacked him then!!!!!! in fdact, other than at colchester, hes been sacked by every club he managed.& almost every club hes managed ended up in financial trouble. (dont include palace in that, they already in financial trouble). hey, he gave us some good times of course, but please remember that when he was sacked here we were heading 4 the third tier of english football, jst 1 place higher than we r now, playing terribly(iwas at the grimsby match the nite b4 his sacking. we were dire). pretty much every team hes managed have struggled, he even managed 2 take scotland frm the top 20 in the world, down 2 around 47th. so, while i dont believe keane is the rite man, lets not go backwards. would b a massive mistake.

In fairness what could have been expected of Burley in a few short months at Palace ? - Keane you should appreciate how lucky you are to have been given the time you have been.
It doesn't happen anymore - other that at Ipswich of course.
At least if Burley came back we would see some good football - and if you see that - results/success are never too far away.

...... and you would have a Manager here with 'blue blood in his veins' - who would never even think of alienating the supporters, because he genuinely 'cares for this club' and all that goes with it.
Anyone who knows George Burley knows this is FACT.

jason0999 - how can you say such things ? - you expect Burley to have worked miracles after just SIX MONTHS and NO MONEY TO SPEND. And the club in dire straits.
Yet after TWENTY MONTHS and HAVING SPENT MILLIONS (yes millions) it's OK for Keane to keep 'rolling on' with little (being generous), or more like it, NO PROGRESS WHATSOEVER.

Come on Jason - I thought you were fair !!!!!!!!

...... so many facts 'stated' on here that are incorrect - some of you should research your facts before 'bleating' on here.

My heart?

I would LOVE to see Burley back here for one last go with us - the reasons for feeling this way are numerous and obvious to any Town fan of at least 10 years duration.

My head?

That's more difficult as it's clouded by an almost blind desire to see Keane go.

At the most negative: we could do a LOT worse than George (WE CURRENTLY ARE!!!!) and at the best... well, even considering it makes me start to dream again...

He's ALWAYS loved us and come on folks, we've all loved him back haven't we? He'll have learnt a LOT on his travels and the romantic in me wants to see one last throw of the dice with a real Town-man before we go back down the no-hoper, inexperienced-celebrity route...

Come on George - come home...

Bad luck George..you deserved more time..a tough job with zero money to spend and Palace are still only 6 points behind us!..

..with a bit of luck Burley'll still be available when Keano the clown eventually departs.

2011-12 season..ipswich town with George Burley back at the helm!.

..I can dream.

Don't think that Burley's return is what we need, but Keane's departure is.
I'd love to see Garvan's return though.

Fact is Keane is the Manager atm end of really. However, If Keane was to be sacked n thats a if.. Then there are a variety of managers available. The optimistic - Martin O'neil, Sam Allardyce. The Realistic - Hughton, Curbishley, Coppell (Retired Though). Ones that we would probably avoid - Laws, Ferguson. And ones in the job - Gus Poyet. So why are people just looking at burley there is a lot of choice out there for managers atm and a lot of quality and probably with more quality than burrley currently tbh. So if keane goes keep your options open i think a fair few managers would be interested in managing ipswich as we give managers time and have money to spend with some good player assets at hand; so we are not a bad proposition. I wish Keane well if he stays. If not then a lot of options available. I wouldnt mind any of the managers in the Optimistic or realistic categories really as all are good managers with their style of play.

Those looking for Curbs to be given the Ipswich job may well be disappointed to see him get one of the jobs that have already become vacant thanks to more forward thinking Chairmen than ours. The Crystal Palace job may well suit him.

How can he keep his job while all those around him, doing far better comparatively, are getting sacked?

I can see why fans would want Burley back. He made a right mess of his last season and a bit here, but I wonder if it would have been different had we got Poom and Veheyen whom he wanted. It was the contracts given that were the real killer on top of relegation and the collapse of ITV Digital. In football terms, Burley always played the attacking, passing game and he built the team up over years despite having to sell key players nearly every year.

I am not saying Burley is the right choice for us now, as there are plenty of options. We need a manager who believes in playing the right way and in entertaining. There are so many options that I cannot believe we are sticking with Keane. Does the club not want to sell match tickets any more? What happens when season tickets go on sale?!

You all seem to forget Burley Out!!!!!!!!!! Get a grip chaps, as have been said in previous posts, he has been SACKED in all jobs since being SACKED at PR.
We don't need to go back in time, but forward, forward, forward!

If RK can't do it, so be it and I'm sure that ME has a line in the sand for RK and if he crosses it, he will be gone and I bet someone will step in as quickly as did RK and if ME is thinking about having a change, he will have no doubt talked to some potential managers to take over. So my fellow Town fans have faith it will all come good, some way, some how, soon I hope!

COYB and RK

Don't bring Burley back as a manager, get him in as a player, and while you're at it get the rest of the squad from '81 in as well - what a deluded bunch you are if you think that Burley coming back would be the answer. If he read half of the comments on here he would realise that he would just become another hate figure in a few weeks if he didn't manage to walk on water or some such miracle.

Burley in. Don't make me laugh. Burley out and all that, oh what happened he upset the players. And it would appear that he has done it at other clubs and Scotland.

So moving on... if you want someone in get someone who can manage players.

Curbs has been out of work for 3 years, dozens have clubs could have appointed him, but none have - doesn't that raise a question about him? Like Burley, Peter Reed and Bryan Robson he had his 'fame' 10 years ago - move on.
As for him going to Palace, you obvioulsy don't understand the geography of south London.
