Keane: I'm Not Walking Away
Keane: I'm Not Walking Away
Thursday, 16th Dec 2010 11:25

Blues boss Roy Keane says he hasn’t thought about walking away from Portman Road despite the current poor run of form which has seen his side drop to 18th in the Championship. The Town manager spent some a few days in Manchester earlier this week reflecting on the Blues’ woes.

With no sign of the beard which was noted in the wake of the Preston game on Saturday, Keane said he hadn't considered leaving Portman Road during a couple of days back in the North-West: “I’ve not thought about packing it in.

"Sometimes I think you need to step back, we all do that and I’ve done it before. You step back, recharge your batteries and look at something from a different angle.

“People think it’s about being on the training pitch, but sometimes not about being on the training pitch. You’ve got to step back from it.

“I had a couple of days with one or two good friends from outside football in Manchester, even away from my family. I think they enjoyed the break from me, it works both ways.”

Keane, who says it's irrelevant whether he has spoken to owner Marcus Evans in recent days, considers himself lucky to be at a patient club like Ipswich, with other managers having been sacked more quickly elsewhere, but admits that eventually that patience will run out: “You can’t keep losing football matches.”

Glad to hear it Roy, still think he can do a good job at the club, just needs a change in fortune

If he's not going to walk away, perhaps he could run?

Blimey, wonder what a player would get from keane if he took a couple of days off training to "step back"?

Let's hope he spoke to those Chilean miners. They could give him him some tips on how to dig himself out of this hole

keane would start digging downwards...................

What a shame. I am sure the majorioty of town fans now wish he would. Marcus Evans talks of still aiming for the premier league this season but sticking with Keane is not going to get him there !

Get used to him boys, I've a bad feeling in my water that he's here for longer than many of you think or would wish for. I will for the record state I'm no fan and I've given up moaning about him.

In business managing change can be far harder than the change itself and I suspect that his Lordship and Mr Clegg do have a master plan that we mere mortals are not aware of!

The 'Lone Ranger' rides again!!!!
One thing he'll never do is write a book on management...clueless and a great example of management..... as Nessa would say on Gavin & Stacey
******** Oi, it's not all about you you know! ***********************

'People think it's about being on the training pitch, but sometimes not about being on the training pitch. You've got to step back from it.

Excuses for skiving off methinks. Sort it out on the training pitch and perhaps players will know what they have to do WSC.

Buggering off for a jolly when hard work is required - and he's paid for that.

We've already taken too many steps back Roy ol' boy, how about a step forward?

Well, I hope Keane going AWOL is the answer, but it all seems mighty strange to me. But then what do I know, i'm only a Town fan

Can we have a break Roy..................from you!

nthstd - I'm with you to be honest. I'm starting to accept that the club/board/evans are clearly not ready to get rid yet.

I detect a hint in Evans speech perhaps? "season not halfway through yet". Maybe an indication of the amount of time Evans has given Keane? I know, clutching at straws etc. Just a thought.

I can't be bothered to moan about him anymore. I hope he shuts us all up and has a dramatic turnaround of form, but it seems about as likely as me winning the lottery.

Ipswich 0 - 4 Leicester - 80-1 on Betfred! Well worth a punt!!!

Fully agree MooMoo, I think we're stuck with him for the time being. I'm fed up of moaning about him anymore, it makes me so angry. Can't remember the last time I went to Portman Road thinking, we'll win this one! Now it's more like, hope we don't lose by too many, and at least put some bloody effort in!

I too would like to see Keane go now as I think his status, style of football and general ethos are not in keeping with our club, however after walking away from Sunderland I think Keane will see this through to the bitter end, else he risks being labelled a quiter who will pack it in and run and the first sign of trouble! It all now comes down to how quickly he can turn it around or how much patience ME has left.

Roy, I bet the Manchester christmas booze up was a bit miserable now you're on the wagon. I hope you didn't let your fellow Wickham Mkt AA members down and stuck to the fruit juice

the funny thing is there are a few good managers currently unemployed out there, i.e. Curbs, Allardyce, Hughton - if we wait til summer as i think ME will - we might miss out on the best man for the job !!

Maybe Blackburn or Bristol Rovers will come in for him?

On second thoughts, who wants a washed up player in charge of your club who has anger issues and is tactically clueless ???

all these experts on here, iv not yet seen one post that goes beyond saying sacking keane will be the answer to our prayers, what then?? what does this promise?? absolutely nothing, iv not seen one post that constructivley goes on to say which manager would come in and turn it around instantly, im against sacking managers, i find it hard to swallow alot of the hypocracy from SOME on here, one minute people are saying ITFC have lost all the true values of what makes this club great then the next minute were calling for our manager to be sacked after less than 2 seasons, well thats certainly not the ITFC way of doing things and never has been. Managers at other clubs have been through alot worse spells and come back to do great things with said clubs, and they will again. Time will tell.

I'd like to see things from Keano's point of view but I can't seem to get my head that far up my backside.

itfctftw, and they say Keano is having a bad SPELL!!!

clive_baker added 12:54 - Dec 16
Keane would know all about taking a step back, that's all we've done as a club since he's been here. He is the worst manager in the history of this club and that is no exaggeration.
