Cardiff Linked With Garvan Move
Cardiff Linked With Garvan Move
Wednesday, 11th Nov 2009 00:24

Cardiff City want to take out-of-favour midfielder Owen Garvan on loan with a view to signing him on a permanent basis, according to a tabloid newspaper. Garvan hasn’t played for Town since the 2-0 defeat at West Brom in August.

The 21-year-old, who is set to play for the Irish U21s this weekend, recently turned down a loan move to League One Colchester United.

callumgarryskeemer - Well, maybe - and maybe not. I certainly agree that he has shown in the past that he has the ability, but he has also shown (and I'm talking about under Jim here), that he does not always have the motivation.

roy has proved that anybody can come back into the team if they conduct themselfs in the right manner in training and in the reserves.
so its all in garvans court lets see if he is capable of making the grade, or will he just go. whichever way dont bother me

It's obvious from what I've read on here that the lad doesn't want to play for Keane. That said, let him go.

How any of us can comment on RK's demeanor and relationship with the players is beyond me. Those of you who are slagging him off and saying he does not talk to players, has no man managements skills, etc are TALKING OUT OF YOUR ARSES!!

Unless you have been part of a training session or sat in on a conversation between RK and the players, shut the **ck up.

Not a RK lover, just a realist.

OG for your own sake leave now.
Wales is nearer to Ireland
At Cardiff you will be playing for a decent manager
At Cardiff you will be playing for a better team (sad to say but it is true.)
At Cardiff you might be Premiership next season
At Ipswich you might be (at best) on the bench for a League 1 team still being mis-managed by RK next season.
Owen it really is a no-brainer.

I've been watching that Billy & Shane on X factor - they can't sing but they're brilliant. I wonder if Owen is going off to join them!

superblueflude: hello again. I think you're missing the point though. The question is why is he playing so badly? He's obviously not motivated, as we know he has the talent. I would argue that it is Keane's job to motivate his players.

The fact that Garvan isn't motivated is obivously a cause for concern.

It may not be Keane's man management at fault I'll admit that. But you'd have to suspect it as a major cause surely.

I'd also argue that the reason a decent bunch of players have been so poor this year is also partly down to motivation.

Keane signs lee martin who has even less strength than garven and from what i've seen no more ability on the ball.
I'd be lying if i understood anything Roy Keane does!
He clearly doesn't look at players in much detail before buying or selling, another example of this can be rhoades who he then sells and scores for fun in a league where we will probably get our next striker from.

Naa - hi

I noticed last year he wasn't playing as well as he did the year before - I know someones going to come up with stats saying he did this and that but over the season he wasn't as good.
I am a fan of Owen and I do feel sad for the guy but sometimes you just dont turn out to be as good as you should be - and I won't blame Keane for that - Owen has his chance to make himself better - but he's not doing it. and for that is he's own fault, Wright got dropped - reasons - we dont know yet he worked hard, and played really well in the reserves and got his place back - Owen isn't doing that.
So forget Keane for one minute and think of Owen only - its up to him isn't it?!

I think why we started so badly is the players have only just realised that playing crap wont keep them in the team, last year they said sorry friend to Magilton and they were kept in, sorry buddy sorry brother etc etc,
so for me the fear kicked in but only now is the fear going away and the passion is taken over and the commitment - please dont come back with yes He admits Keane fearful - im not saying that im saying no matter who came in as manager would have had the same effect - Jim was everyones friend and pal and mistakes went unpunished.

In Garvan's defence,I think it's probably difficult trying to motivate yourself playing for the reserves in front of a couple of hundred people compared to playing in front of 20,000+ week in week out - players react differently to each other, that's where good management comes into it - it's down to Keane to motivate him in the right way rather than just shutting him out completely...He's a young lad with plenty of potential and a long way from home - I think Burley even Royle would've got the best out of him given the chance.
7 goals in 22 starts last season - let's not let another one slip through the net.

Now this is a good debate!!

Surco - apologies I missed Fabregas on your list (or I could blag and claim I was looking at Barca next season :-) ) As for the training, this is the stories coming out of the training camp at Ireland U21 during the last break "couldn't be arsed and shouldn't be there is what I was told" It has been mentioned before that none of us know what is said behind closed doors at FPR and I stand by that - RK seems to take this kind of press wherever he goes and we simply are just not used to it.

As I said before I was a Magic fan and not 100% for the appointment of RK, it's been a god awful start to the campaign but I must admit I am more positive now than I was after the Newcastle match but there is still a long way to go. I remember going nuts when we sold Dyer but that worked well for us and this may too - I do think the lad has talent but there is simply something wrong and it can't be 100% down to Keane as we have had problems with him before with BFJ and Magic - he may be another Supple and is not cut out for this but who knows, by all accounts he is a decent lad but seems stuck in a rut here (and has been for the past few years to be honest) and for the sake of all concerned maybe should have a stint away.

If he comes back from a loan spell firing on all cylinders great but I just can't see it I'm afraid!

We need to keep Garvan.
Trotter isnt working, and we need an attacking midfielder who can help us push forward.

KEEP GARVAN !!!!

I'll lay my cards on the table. I was (and still am) excited when the club appointed RK as manager. I was also under no illusion that it would be a very different regime to that under Magic (who I also liked). It was time for JM to go and I'm pleased for him that he seems to be doing well at QPR.
When we let Jordan Rhodes go I was very disappointed as I hadn't seen much of him - just a few appearances coming off the bench - but he seemed to score goals for fun in the reserves, at Brentford last season and now at Huddersfield. Nevertheless he has not proved that he would be that prolific at Championship level (although personally I think given the chance he would), so I think the fee we got was a fair one.
Owen Garvan has always been one of my favourite players. I accept he's not very quick - not everyone can be - and is not the greatest tackler or header BUT he has one of the best natural football brains at ITFC, is very good at keeping hold of the ball when in possession, a left foot to die for and is the best and most creative passer of the ball in the club. He is also a great natural striker of a football - his 7 goals last year were not headers or tap-ins. I hope he doesn't go but if he does I suspect he will do well.
Roy Keane is his own man. He was a GREAT footballer - I would say one of the alltime greats in UK football. He wore his heart on his sleeve and always did it his way. He is obviously very bright and has played under arguably two of the best ever managers in the UK game, neither of whom suffered fools gladly. I understand why a lot of people don't like him but I don't understand why when a guy has accepted a 2 year contract some people are on his back almost from Day 1.
I do not believe we will be anywhere near relegation by the end of the season (which doesn't mean I think we will make the playoffs now) but if we end up in the top half of the division we will have a momentum for next season that could take us all the way. RK did it at Sunderland and the fact that 3 of the players he managed at Sunderland are here, for me shows that players OF A CERTAIN TYPE are only too happy to play for him. Who can blame a manager for trying to get HIS sort of players around him.I accept that not all the new arrivals have blossomed (so far) but would like to point out that Delaney until quite recently was probably most fans' worst buy and has in my opinion been outstanding in the last couple of games.
Finally, having seen Priskin play the whole game at Reading I believe he will prove to be an excellent Keane purchase and will score some very special goals.
