Keane: Draw Right Result
Keane: Draw Right Result
Saturday, 7th Nov 2009 21:35

Boss Roy Keane felt a draw was the right result after Town’s visit to Reading ended 1-1. The point took the Blues off the bottom of the table and extended their unbeaten run to five matches.

Keane said: “It was probably a fair result, although Brendan might not agree. They had more of the possession and put us under pressure. They are a big, strong side, which surprised me.

"I thought our last two performances were perhaps the poorest for a month. But we got results, and I always say that if you get results the table sorts itself out.

"Perhaps we scored too early because as soon as we did, we thought we could sit back. But you can't do that."

Keane felt his side had opportunities to win the match: "We had three or four chances, good chances, particularly Tamas Priskin in the second half but to be fair to Reading, so did they.

"We had to get bodies in the way late on but we brought a lot of that pressure on ourselves. Our passing was awful. We gave the ball away cheaply all over the pitch.

"It's another draw and they are stacking up at the moment. In our last two games we have not played that well but we've picked up four points, so we have to look at that as a positive." The Blues boss had praise for Liam Rosenior, who was booed by Reading fans throughout the game: "Liam has been excellent for us and it was the same again day.

"Players will get stick when they go back to their old club, although Liam is still a Reading player of course. But good players thrive on that situation and he enjoyed it."

Keane again said how much he is liking life in Suffolk: "It's a nice area to live. My wife and I are enjoying it. Mind you, I have been walking the dog at midnight after a few of our recent results."

Keeper Richard Wright was missing from today’s 18 after picking up a back injury.

Reading boss Brendan Rodgers felt his side should have been awarded a penalty towards the end: "It was a game we came into with big confidence but gave ourselves a mountain to climb by giving away a goal at the beginning. It was a stupid goal.

"I thought we should have had a penalty when Shane Long was brought down near the end. It's clear there was contact when you see the TV replay. You usually get those at home.

"We had some really good moments in the first half but failed to capitalise. It's a frustrating end to a couple of good weeks."

A draw is never the right result - a win is the right result

A very luckluster performence. After the goal we sat back and let the pressure build until the goal. After that we fought a little more but Reading dominated. Lucky draw which isn't good enough. Where was the confidence from the win? Haven't got that to blame anymore growing concerns. Still gunna be there supporting however

I agree completely with jakeitfcster. Aside from Leadbitter and Rosenior, we seemed to switch off a bit after the goal and let Reading back into the match.

Disappointing to see us just not hold onto the ball a bit more in the second half. Doesn't matter if we're playing for a draw or whatever the tactics, you can still hold onto the ball and try and play a bit of football, something we just aren't doing enough of.

Having said that, off the bottom of table. Regardless of the result that's positive in it's own right.

Lets push on a bit town and pick up the second win.

Not a fair result perhaps, but when you get outplayed like that, then yes it is the right result! I'll take it thank you very much.

Gotta play better than that though if we wanna get out the bottom.

We were slightly fortunate to get the draw at Reading I thought, so I am pleased our luck held out. It's nice to be off the bottom (gosh how our expectations have dropped!), but with two games left this month it looks as though we could be going into December in the bottom three.

Delaney did okay again and it makes me wonder why it took so long to try him at centre-back. Edwards was disappointing though, I thought a £1m 30-year-old with his experience would excel at Championship level but I would like to see more to justify him keeping Walters from his favoured right-wing place.

Just seen the game on the feature length football league show and it seems a draw was a fair result. Also I think Priskin should now get a run in the side as although he missed his chances today, he did create alot and had some decent efforts. Also I'm glad Delaney is coming good at centre back now,

Being in australia and unable to watch the games i feel it would be unfair to comment on past performances just based on written reports, however due to the live stream (which i must say was v gd quality) i was able to watch the reading game last night.
I really hope that previous performances that people have mention, such as sheff u away and watford at home were significantly better.
Town were very disappointing last night, two words comes to mind-lackluster and inept. I could not believe or understand why after scoring so early we were so negative.
Reading are enduring a torrid time at home and must of already been low on confidence before stead scored in the 9th minute-which was a very nice finish. That would of knocked their confidence even more, but rather than take advantage of it it seemed like we were content on trying to hold on for a 1-0 for 81 minutes...never a good idea.
RK sais it was a fair result...well I'm not sure what he based that on but if reading had won 3-1/4-1 that would seemed a fair reflection on the game. How they did not get given a penalty i dont know, its the most blatent pen i seen for a long time, maybe the ref thought the advantage their lad had was greater than a pen, a shot which crashed the underside of the bar.
Bad luck for ipswich has been mentioned alot recently but luck was certainly on our side yesterday.
Maybe my assessment of the game is a little harsh, and maybe i expect too much. Im not really sure what the point of this post is, if any...just the game as i saw it. And i think if we continue to play so negatively especially against teams low in the league and low on confidence then a relegation battle thru the whole season is a strong possibilty. I have always supported rk and when back in a few months will be back at the games supporting the team, but quite possibly being led by a different man....

can't agree more with ITFCson...

i'm from Singapore, it takes extra effort just to follow the team news over here where coverage are almost non-existent at championship level. Being 8 hours difference means catching live commentary via the web ends up like a zombie for me the next day, especially on weekday games where i have to work as well.

fortunately i was able to catch the reading game via live feeds. unfortunately, i'm not convinced that this team, build by RK, is even enough to fend off relegation. JM was slayed previously by many supporters, but I suspect those of you would have quietly regretted it by now.

We had players who were able to challenge for at least the playoff spot. It was JM who brought in loanees like Gio with much sparkle (can RK even match this?). I look at the players brought in by RK........ sad to say, other than Leadbitter and Rosenior who was tackling and fighting for possession, other players looked out of sort......

RK has been given enough time to prove himself.... which he has not taken it for far too long...... it is time to have a change of manager, for the good of the club.....

happy with the point BUT our performance was comical at times especially the amount of times we gave the ball away i even punched my laptop at one point!! When is Priskin actually going to score?? Towns performace was a long long long way from the day we beat bristol city 6-0!!! Sad times!! Keane will get the boot this week!! COYB

I was there yesterday and apart from Leadbitter (who was awesome) we should have lost by 3-4 goals, we were battered all day, priskn was woeful, lazy and lightweight. He reminds me of berbatov who is a nightmare to watch as he showes no passion. I was behind Keano and he was livid with him most of the game, should have scored in the last minute too. But saying that i though bruce and delany looked solid at the back and the keeper made a great save. Still unbeaten though, but we need to show more up front.

I didnt think Leadbitter played as well as he normally do's Hype313,but he would not be a player i would criticise normally. MOM Rosenior for me, showed his total commitment to Town and saved us the point .I was disapointed with overall performance, having taken lead i thought we would get going, but it was the opposite, had Royals scored first i think we would have been wrong end of a mauling . NO IM NOT A WHINGER, YES I AM A TRUE BLUE .

I was at the match. I am afraid I cannot agree that Legbiter was awesome. True he won a lot of tackles but he, like most of the team gave the abll away to easily. That just invited the pressure.

That said, the positives were that Bruce and Delaney were very solid at the back. I will be the first to admit I was wrong about Delaney, he is not as useless as I thought and could develop into a very good CB.

Rosenior had a very good game and I particularly liked his little blown kiss to the Reading fans which really riled them.

Quinn was below par and that is a real problem. Trotter goes off the boil sos we bring Quinn in, he has a poor game so we clamour for Trotter back. We don't have anyone who can deliver a consistent perfomance in midfield. Can't wait for Norris to return.

Up front is also a big worry. We created more when Counago came on, but this was only on the break. There was no sustained threat and as for Priskin? Should we berate him because he loped about looking disinterested for most of the game and missed 4 sitters. Someone who cost 1.7 million should have puit those away. Or should we be positive and think that at least he got himself into those positions and goals will come as confidence grows? I was a big fan of Priskin, nowe I am not so sure.

Bergholtblue, that was my view of Leadbitter, but as ive said it was not something he is prone to do so wouldnt be too critical .Also agree with your comments about Priskin.First time ive ever been impressed with Delaney so hopefuly he is coming good .

Draw as not the right result, Reading should have won, for that reason alone i will accept the point. Top marks to the taxi driver who knew the short cut to get us to the Madjeski in good time!!

No, that's not the best we've played all season, so clearly you do need to go to games....KNOBHEAD!

Every comment you post on here is a knee jerk reaction. I haven't met a Town fan at game yet who wants Keane out. Sadly you are very much in the minority you fool. Now dust off your Man United shirt and go down the pub for the Chelsea game as that's clearly where you should be.

Was at the game, but after seeing the reply on Interactive this morning, I totally agree with Roy, although Reading's goal was very lucky!

However the game yet again showed that we are in a false position - if only for a striker! Reading also look a decent side. A point was indeed fair.

I can't believe how many of Keane's friends and family post on here - it's incredible.

*We barely put 2 passes together yesterday.
*Stead scores (which is what he's in the team for) and he gets taken off (again) then gets slaughtered by fans for losing the ball (as if the rest of the team know how to keep it!)
*Priskin is apparently our new saviour despite missing 4 really good chances (again) yesterday.

It's bewildering that so many are willing to put up with this utter crap.

1 win in 16 - pathetic.

Keaneish: CGS may post knee-jerk reactions. But the very fact that he's been able to do that pretty much all season should say something shouldn't it? How many does he need to post before it stops being knee-jerk?

Whatever you think about Keane's rebuilding of the squad, or about individual game performances the fact is that we are in the bottom three and are not playing well.

Plenty of other managers can rebuild a squad (that didn't need rebuilding I might add) without putting the team in such a terrible position.

Regardless of whatever may happen from now on (and I hope that Keane can trun it round) the fact is that we are not in a false position. I keep hearing 'when we win 5 on the trot you'll all realise how wrong you were' blah blah blah. When are these 5 mythical wins going to come? We certainly don't look like stringing five wins together at the moment. And we've just had a run of playing some of the weakest teams in the division and have one poor win to our name.

Brilliant!

Keane supporters keep going on "if you were at the game" etc etc. I'll admit to not being away, but at home we've been rubbish (except Watford). So what's your point?

jas0999 added 14:25 - Nov 8
Bergholtblue - perhaps you could at the very least learn how to spell the players names if you insist on being negative: LEADBITTER is the players name. I am afraid I refuse to listen to so called fans who son't even know trhe players name!!!! Suggest others also refuse to take any notice.
