Keane: Draw Right Result
Keane: Draw Right Result
Saturday, 7th Nov 2009 21:35

Boss Roy Keane felt a draw was the right result after Town’s visit to Reading ended 1-1. The point took the Blues off the bottom of the table and extended their unbeaten run to five matches.

Keane said: “It was probably a fair result, although Brendan might not agree. They had more of the possession and put us under pressure. They are a big, strong side, which surprised me.

"I thought our last two performances were perhaps the poorest for a month. But we got results, and I always say that if you get results the table sorts itself out.

"Perhaps we scored too early because as soon as we did, we thought we could sit back. But you can't do that."

Keane felt his side had opportunities to win the match: "We had three or four chances, good chances, particularly Tamas Priskin in the second half but to be fair to Reading, so did they.

"We had to get bodies in the way late on but we brought a lot of that pressure on ourselves. Our passing was awful. We gave the ball away cheaply all over the pitch.

"It's another draw and they are stacking up at the moment. In our last two games we have not played that well but we've picked up four points, so we have to look at that as a positive." The Blues boss had praise for Liam Rosenior, who was booed by Reading fans throughout the game: "Liam has been excellent for us and it was the same again day.

"Players will get stick when they go back to their old club, although Liam is still a Reading player of course. But good players thrive on that situation and he enjoyed it."

Keane again said how much he is liking life in Suffolk: "It's a nice area to live. My wife and I are enjoying it. Mind you, I have been walking the dog at midnight after a few of our recent results."

Keeper Richard Wright was missing from today’s 18 after picking up a back injury.

Reading boss Brendan Rodgers felt his side should have been awarded a penalty towards the end: "It was a game we came into with big confidence but gave ourselves a mountain to climb by giving away a goal at the beginning. It was a stupid goal.

"I thought we should have had a penalty when Shane Long was brought down near the end. It's clear there was contact when you see the TV replay. You usually get those at home.

"We had some really good moments in the first half but failed to capitalise. It's a frustrating end to a couple of good weeks."

We need to start putting 5 passes together before we get 5 wins.

Nevermind,in Keane we trust,COYB..God,there'll be people still saying that when we've been relegated.

WAKE UP!

Errr, jas0999 I do hope you were joking.

If you read Berholt's spelling, it's pretty obvious it was a joke.

So you've just shown yourself to be a bit of a fool in my eyes.

Sorry.

My guess is that none of these whingers on here were at the game yesterday. I was, and I thought our support was excellent - just how it should be.

Rosenior played well, Leadbitter played well defensively, and Delaney was good in the air. Apart from that we still look nervy and unconfident.

But having said that, Reading played well and given the run of play in the last 20 minutes, a draw was a good result for us.

Loads of fools on here anyway - the ones with Keane-coloured spectacles on. take them off and see the real picture.

Duffers, I wasn't at the game but it's obvious that several megatvie posters here were.

But the fact that you were happy with a draw (presumably because we could easily have lost) against a team down near the bottom who haven't won at home since January tells its own story surely.

Yes Reading may have played well but at the same time, anyone can play well against poor opposition can't they?

I'm not stating anything there, as I wasn't at the game, but the fact that most other teams find Reading fairly easyt to beat at home should say something shouldn't it?

jas0999, please explain why / how we are in a false position ! just so myself and other obviously misguided people can understand, because clearly we must be missing something!

naa,

I never said I was happy with the draw, I said a draw was a good result for us given our performance in the 2nd half.

There is a difference.

Fair enough Duffers. If you're happy to admit that it was another poor performance that's fine with me.

keanish- stop having ago at fans who want keane out, we are not all bumming him like you clearly, i was at the reading game and second half we played poorly and probably should have lost, 1 win in 16 games so can you blame people for wanting him out? i am a season ticket holder and go to about half the away games so i call myself a "true fan" and i want keane out because this is the worst i have ever seen us play and we definatly need a change of manager now as we have given him far too long. anyway why are people acuusing fans o not being fans? if you support ipswich you have to be a fan otherwise would you support ipswich? we are rubbish at the moment and looking much like a league 1 team week by week
KEANO OUT!

jas0999. It's my nickname for him you berk! Before you start criticising I suggest you check you own spelling!

Secondly, I am not being negative. I am being realistic. I put down the positives from the match and I put the negatives. Its not my fault that the negatives outnumber the positives.

PS When I say that it is my nickname. I will not take credit for making it up. I took it from a very funny post some time back. I forget who it was but I hope he/she forgives my plagurism. Jas0999 you will have to get you dictionary out to look that one up.

I think there are three camps that post on here. There's the always positive camp, the seemingly always negative camp and then there's the majority in the middle bunch. I like to think i'm in the middle camp bordering positive generally. I don't think people should be slated for posting overly negative or positive comments, sometimes they may have a valid point, either way around. My point is, i think y/day it would've been nice to get 3 points but it was essiential that we did'nt lose, and we did'nt which is a positive, although plymouth winning did'nt help! However i read a stat on bbc website y/day that said we have had most shots at goal at goal and most corners in champ, yet we are 2nd bottom with 1 win in 16. That is'nt good is it, whatever tinted glasses you wear. I'm not shouting for Keanes head just yet, but even though we are unbeaten in 5 we are'nt winning either and i'm just beginning to worry that the gap may lengthen if wins are not on the board soon.

I started to watch it on justin.tv. It kept going into freeze mode which pissed me off. The picture was crap also.

I then found bet363 for the 2nd half. Picture was HD all the way. And it didnt freeze at all!!!

This is my choice for any future live games from abraod. It was nice to see town play live from New Zealand.

on here we keep being reminded by some elements that things are getting better as we have not lost, mmmmmmm, can we afford to ? and sure as hell we are going to soon. THEN WHAT ? seriously , 16 games in ,alarm bells must be ringing in even the most optimistic ears now,and not just on the terraces. The amazing run that the optimists have been on about for weeks, has not materialised and shows no sign of coming,I feel sure quite a few of those people who believed it was going to happen are feeling a bit disilusioned now, several of them are conspicuous by their absents on here now .Christmas just around corner now and we are in the smelly stuff up to our necks, There has to be a major change somewhere to get us out of it , IT CANT GO ON LIKE THIS.sorry Roy a draw was not the right result, we need to be beating the sides at the bottom and we are not, In times past when winners got 2 points a draw made less impact ,but these days its 2 points lost .

CGS - I was starting to have some respect for you lately but after that last little rant you've lost it again. Honestly what was the point? You think it's going to suddenly win the Pro-Keaners over to your way of thinking? You're pathetic mate, grow up and learn how to have a sensible, adult discussion. And before you go ranting back at me, calling me all the names under the sun - don't bother because I won't let you goad me in to any sort of slanging match here.

I'm still pro-Keane at this stage but I am fully aware of his failings (and not happy with where we are) and was willing to engage in sensible discussion with fellow Town fans, but so many people on both sides of the argument are just so narrow-minded and abusive I no longer see the point. So I won't be posting here again until this place returns to sensibility, and I encourage anyone here who agrees with me to do the same.

Oh, and it's 1 in 16.

I've had enough of RK's complete lack of passion for the game, draw the right result...... buggered if I'd think that if I was a Reading fan!!

There are a few of us on here who've candidly been around supporting this great club for a very long time (me since 1960's) and have seen some great and some sad times. I have to say though I have never felt like this about ITFC and the way it's being run. Week after week Roy Keane drivels out the same old crap after games or 'stares at the reporter' like Grant Mitchell on Eastenders. We have becomea soap opera, my mates at work love it, can't wait to see us fail to win again and take the pee out of RK.

I would ask you all to go back and see RK's promises when appointed, only 2 or 3 players away from the squad he needs for promotion, can do it this season, why not etc etc.

I would ask from all but the blind RK followers, would you have accepted this season from anyone else, Jim Magilton??? I think not.

Sixteen games in, another lucky point another inept performance, how many more chances will RK get, perhaps we can't afford (financially) to sack him, whatever the reason, this passionless, staring idiotic manager has got to go before we pass the Budgies on the way down as they come up.

Wake up folks Keaneo would have shown signs of promise by now if he had it, he ain't and he should go NOW!!!!!

I second Runaround on the taxi driver who got us to the Madejski by some good shortcuts - good effort there sir! Very few positives to take from the game - we seemed to start OK and when we went in front things seemed to be going well. But that's as far as it got! When Newcastle took the lead against us, they stuck the knife in and got a quick second (as they should). We took the lead at Reading and took our collective foot off the gas .... Reading got back into it, and were in all honesty unlucky not to win by several. They had a lot of efforts on goal and it was only down to their poor finishing that they didn't bag at least 3 or 4 goals (cue the "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" chants from the Town fans .... lol)

So I totally echo what others have said on here - before the game a Town win was a realistic possibility. However, given our overall lacklustre performance, a draw was probably as good as we could have got, and we ended up hanging on for that!

Positives - large and noisy Town support; Liam Rosenior playing well and winding up the Reading fans; a lucky point which moves us off the bottom; reasonably tasty stadium beer; Reading taxi drivers!

Negatives - losing booked seats because everyone sat wherever they wanted; soulless and disjointed Town performance; huge space on the pitch that Reading seemed to exploit well - was this tactics or player apathy though?; Manky lettuce in my KFC on the way home!

I won't be at the Wednesday game as I will be away for my girlfriend's birthday, so I will rely on some good posts on here to keep me informed!

Keeping the faith, but starting to wonder where we go from here. I can live with good performances and even losing, as long as the boys play well. What is harder to stomach is such an inept performance when we should be scrapping for every point, not hanging on for a draw! I am still with Keano, but he really needs to gee the boys up more - they shoudl be plaing with more fire in their belly, just like Keano used to.

Dobie ..good summary again , we should have been looking at beating a side who have not won at home all season but i left again feeling deflated at how poor we were especially at keeping the ball and the seeming lack of effort from the players for their manager. The core to any side is the strength and we change ours every week all the way through the centre ,Quinn is not good enough,Trotter is not good enough ,Peters is not good enough.IMO Edwards for the money has not done enough ,Leadbitter after a good start for 3 million is he creating chances , scoring ? Look at loan signing Cleverly at Watford taking teams apart and scoring goals .Simpson at Qpr ,why have we failed to bring in any Premiership loans ?
The reason we are on a little run of not getting beaten is because we are playing the bottom sides in the league Plymouth,Reading,Derby,Barnsley ,Sheff Utd are the worst form team in the division and we still have only managed one win !!! What is going to happen when we play the top half teams ,on these performances we will get heavily beaten, and as Dobie says where do we go from here with the players knowing they cannot win against the lower sides their confidence must be shot to pieces
