Keane Again Unhappy With Defending
Keane Again Unhappy With Defending
Saturday, 19th Sep 2009 21:29

Boss Roy Keane felt his side again conceded bad goals as they drew 3-3 at Doncaster Rovers. The South Yorkshire side's manager Sean O'Driscoll was similarly unhappy with his backline.

Keane said: "I think we gave bad goals away. You always think if you score three goals away from home you're going to win the game and, in terms of going forward, this was our most encouraging display.

"We looked threatening and I can't say that about some of our performances this season.

"I certainly think we had the better of the chances and, when you are 3-2 up with five or 10 minutes to go, you would hope you can see the game out, but that's the way it's going for us at the moment."

The Town manager admitted that it’s going to take a while for his team to gel: "It's certainly going to be one of those seasons where it's going to be a long, tough battle for us and we're going to have to give some players the benefit of the doubt as they settle into the football club, both on and off the pitch.

"We've got one or two injuries and we're lacking a bit of confidence, as you would expect, but no one is going to hand us a victory. We've got to keep battling away and do it for ourselves."

The Blues boss was chuffed for Jack Colback, who netted his first senior goal: "I'm pleased for Jack. That was his first goal. He could go on and be a very good footballer. Tamás scored his second goal for us and he will stake a claim for place in the team next week. That's what I want, I'm desperate for players to stake a claim for a place in the side.

"Our subs did well for us and that's what you want from your bench, players to come on and make a difference. It was an encouraging display, but we've got a lot of catching up to do."

Keane said he couldn’t recall former Manchester United team-mate Quinton Fortune scoring a goal as good as his late equaliser during their time together at Old Trafford: "He bloody didn't, no! Not even in training. Don't worry, I'll be seeing him in a minute!"

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll was disappointed with his side’s overall display: "I thought it was a poor performance.

"We didn't get out of first gear and we haven't played like that for a long time. You can talk about the goals we scored, but they hide a multitude of sins.

"We pride ourselves on our level of performance and I didn't think it was anywhere near what we are capable of.

"I thought we lacked ideas and didn't do a lot of things that we've done well week in, week out."

O'Driscoll was also unhappy with his team’s defending: "We didn't mark the thrower on the first goal. Our line for the freekick [for Town's second] was poor and we didn't challenge for the third goal.

"There's not much they can do about Quinton Fortune's strike, and if they had scored that sort of goal against us you would have to hold your hands up. But they [Town's goals] are the sort you can't concede in this division."

the world and his mother seem to agree we need a quality centreback but getting 1 on loan will not be easy. so much of the problem seems to be individual errors throughout the team so the whole team need to learn to defend properly. this has been a problem at ITFC for years though! Still think a lack of confidence has a lot to do with it and 1 win will lead to a run of them

Too true KeanoITFC09 - Could understand if we had won things every seasons for the last 5 but we haven't and TBH if it weren't for ME and the things that have transpired since then we may have been looking up at the yellow/green things rather than looking down a them. Perspective - Look it up you impatient idiots.

I'm not impatient, I'm just saying Keane isn't right for the club - never was, never will be, never in a month of defeats or a month of victories will he be right for the club. He just doesn't belong. I don't have a problem with ITFC - I love the club, I could never imagine supporting anybody else, I'm a Tractor Boy through and thorugh and always will be no matter what happens.

Keane is the problem and I want him out. Never liked him, never will. He is so wrong for Ipswich and he is the bad apple who wants outing before things get any worse. If Keane left, the team could be winning week in, week out - from a player's perspective it is quite clear that he destroys ambition, loyalty, morale, souls, confidence, dignity, self-belief and pride in the club. How can I get behind and have confidence in a man who will bring nothing but embarrassment and destruction to the great name and pedigree of my team - ITFC?

I feel sorry for the players and the fans, like me who have to suffer humiliation game after game after game.

I love my club and I have doubts about people on here who support Keane and his destructive ways ever having any love or loyalty for ITFC in the first place - the rot is happening right now, before your very eyes and still you can't see it.

I would love to be wrong but I can't see that happening.

UEFA81 - I do not know KeanoITFC09 but what the hell are you doing having a pop at him for? You should look in the mirror and then listen to what you are saying. You are behaving like someone who has personally been whipped by our new leader. Get a grip old chap or go support my local team.......and you don't really want to do that!

UEFA81, you are a really sad and lonely individual.
I still say that you are a narwich scum using an ITFC moniker.
ME, Clegg and Keano are the best thing that could have happened to ITFC.
Super dim did not have a clue, he knew how bad our defense and attack was and in three years did nothing about it.
He was tacticaly inept and never got the players into a winning mentality and installed bad morales and that could not care less attitude.
I saw more passion and fight in the first half of the forest game than all the times watching fat dim's teams.
Remember the dross he signed, Keano is building for the future starting and the roots and working upwards, Rome was not built in a day. By the end of the season we will have a team that is proud when wearing the badge and something we can sing our hearts out for.

Phil/Gav - Is there nothing we can set up on here to stop some of the idiotic comments? Whilst everyone is entitled to an opinion some, like UEFA81's, aren't even worth the embarrassment of seeing or replying too yet we feel it is our duty to. From the outside world this minority make the majority look like ungrateful bar stewards. How easy is it to set up a pole where you can ensure only current members get only ONE VOTE? The vote would be, and to make it easy, HOW HAPPY ARE YOU WITH THE CURRENT PROGRESS THE CLUB (not the management) ARE MAKING SINCE THE START OF THE SEASON? Maybe scale it 1-5 with your usual type of wording. Worth a feel on what members think? But we really need to ensure it's one vote only else it's pants!!!!

WHAT DID JIM ACHIEVE IN THREE SEASONS. Give Roy a chance! Jim has gone thank goodness. get over it.

uefa81 - can see where your coming from and you are entirely entitled to your own opinion which what this website is for sharing.
However, people are getting fed up with the negativity.
I appreciate you are being realisic but you have to understand that when 10,000 fans find the need to boo the team off the pitch, the other 10,000 who applaud no matter what, get a bit frustrated.
I'm not accusing you of booing the team but when you share negative opinions you have to realise that people will react with there own perceptions of how a football club should be supported.
Having said this, its not fair to single people out for bringing the club down, but now more than ever, the players that play for our team need us to follow and encourage them as much as we can.

Like other posts from those who went yesterday, it was an extremely encouraging second half performance. Real threat at times and unlike during the week , RK's substitutions sustained rather than destroyed the momentum. Huge plusses around the performance of Rosenior and in particular Leadbitter who does look a class act. By some distance the best of RK's signings and someone who has definitely taken us forward in midfield. A bit of credit due too to Delaney who I thought had his second better game in succession, he gets forward very usefully and can deliver a better ball in from left back than we have had for a while. Above all, it was the unity on and off the field that was so pleasing, a great atmosphere behind the goal and 3 genuine champagne moments with the goals. Brilliant. Fortune will play all year and not hit one like that , so we can't be too downhearted. It was also a great footballing occasion yesterday, excellent ground and relationship with the home fans and a cracking end to end game without any Premiership cynicism. Can we keep it going next week? Who knows but yesterday was a good day at last. UEFA 81 , keep reading greek tractor. We all have reservations about Keane and our start for heavens sake, but broken records get on your t*ts after a while don't they......?
