Palestinians want to live in peace in Palestine, and Israelis want to live in peace in Israel, but they are arguably mutually exclusive.

Hamas say they want to live in peace but only once Israel and the Jewish population is wiped off the earth. The IRA wanted peace but only if NI became part of the Irish Republic, irrelevant what none members of the IRA wanted. Mike over the road who always talks about living in peace, but after the toerag pinched his car last week, if he should capture him he'll beat the f**king shlt out of the toerag - not very peaceful Isn't that the problem, people want peace but often the peace they want comes at the expense (death) of others

There’s a lot of goodness in people, but also some right barstewards. And we seem to let the latter dictate things sometimes.

Yeah I didn't do the sums but you know what I mean. It just saddens me that we live in a world where so few people can cause so much misery.

Flip side of that is that some people are happy to live in "a peace" that is maintained through structural violence against others. So, lots of other organisations and institutions were perfectly content constructing a state that systematically discriminated against Northern Irish Catholics in almost every aspect of life - housing, education, employment, policing etc - and used its police force to defend that status quo with violence against unarmed civil rights protestors. And lots of Unionists didn't mind living "peaceful" lives in that manner, and probably wouldn't even really recognise that description of what their society was. And like clockwork, populations that are brutalised and discriminated against become less and less amenable to the version of "peace" they're presented with and more and more of them are attracted to extremism and violence. "There can be no peace in the world unless there's justice, and there can be no justice without peace. I think in a sense these problems are inextricably bound together." Well said. There’s no such thing as an unjust peace.
