I'm not sure that Dover deserve much sympathy given their recent history. Gamed the system during Covid at others' expense.

I think that's a bit of an interesting interpretation of it all.

Wasn't it the case that they agreed (or were strong armed into agreeing) to the season resuming on the basis that certain funding would be made available, and then refused to play once it became apparent that the funding was either non-existent or not as described?

They refused to do what all sides signed up for then didn't play and then (I understand) furloughed their players.

They're not popular with other National League supporters.

Yeah, they really “gamed”the system! Points deduction, fine, almost £2m now in debt (having been debt free before Covid), had to turn back into a semi-professional club, and going down to National League South!

They also weren’t the only club to vote to end the season early.

But at least the club exists, which it might not have done had it carried on playing last season.
