Last Pre season friendly. A chance for your first XI for next week a Burton to play together before the season kicks off. Get the back 4 and goalkeeper all playing together communicating with each other knowing their jobs. Know who is going to start in the other key areas of the pitch. Massively benefiting knowing what runs each other make.

And then this...

“although Lambert hinted that he again plans to field a team which is a mix of first framers and youngsters”

Wow. He either knows exactly what XI he’s going with next week and have been training in their set formations and patterns of play the last couple of weeks. Or (the more likely) he’s still got no idea

Want to see Wilson and Guthrie, it looks inevitable we will end up with one them.

Wouldn't risk Kenlock, wouldn't risk Donacien.

Poll: Would love to know the opinions on here now of Lambert genuinely?

Pretty sure he has a good idea of who he is going to play in the Burton game. For me FWIW I think there are only really a couple of positions up for grabs - GK, 1 MFer, 1 forward.

Here's what I think he will play in the first game;
Holy

Josh
Donacien
Woolf
Kenlock

Skuse
Downes
Huws

Garbutt
Jackson
Norwood

Defence is a case of who's fit and available and we only have two fit forwards.

Lambert doesn't have many options in those areas.

But if he plays his first 11 and a couple of key players pick up injuries will fans moan, why the **** did he play them in a pointless friendly?

Yep, Lambert can't win. When it was 1-1 at Notts County a mate of mine sent me a text saying "Get Norwood on, we can win this." What - risk your key player for the coming season to win a match none of us will remember in five years' time? Daft

It’s mainly the back 4 I’m concerned with. They’d benefit massively playing together as a unit tomorrow rather than being thrown together for the first time next Saturday against an organised league 1 outfit

Would play a reserve back 4, we are so so thin for opening day.

Emmanuel - Wilson - Guthrie - Clements

^^^^ Tomorrow for Cambridge ^^^^

Lambert doesn't have many options in those areas.

The bonus with the strikers is that both Jackson and Norwood have looked lively and scored goals during pre-season, their confidence will be up and they'd want to play rather than sitting on the bench. I'd start them both if I was PL. What's also quite exciting is that when Sears returns a front 3 of Jackson, Sears and Norwood looks very exciting, plenty of pace and movement.
