Ipswich - London train Q: Off Peak/On Peak Edition 10:22 - Jan 31 with 4226 viewsartsbossbeard

So, I've got an afternoon appointment nr Kings Cross and an off peak return seems ideal, however, in the unlikely event that I'm later than the 16:30 (last off-peak train), can I simply upgrade my off-peak to peak and pay the difference or do I need a new single ticket.

If it's the latter, I'm writing to ASLEF.

If you ask the train operator for the cheapest possible ticket for your journey and you describe the journey possibilities to them then I believe they are legally obliged to give you the cheapest possible ticket. Otherwise they may get sneaky with it.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Cheers.

I think I'll draft my letter to ASLEF, just in case.

If you get on the peak time train with an off peak ticket open return then you just pay the difference. I've done it before. Worth checking in advance how much that would be because it could be very steep. Might be worth spending that money in Hamilton Hall instead and waiting for the seven o'clcock.

Sometimes you can get away with using the off-peak ticket - sometimes they've charged me, sometimes they haven't.

If you do need to upgrade, you can pay the difference on the train to the ticket inspector.

Why pick one of the worst pubs in London when there are plenty of decent ones in a few minutes walk of Liverpool St?

Wednesday night 5 a side commitments mean I've got to get back pre 7pm, unfortunately.

Off Peak open return noted. Cheers.

Nice one, so no hassle with the barrier ticket wise then? Just jump on an pay the difference?

isnt the 4:30 the first peak train? If its today then Im too late anyway. My advice if your later would have been jump on one of the shunters thats stops a lot more. Theyre not that slower and very rarely have a guard on. Really depends on the guard you get on the ticket. They certainly used to get 8% (was 6 or 8) of all additional tickets they sold on the train so some are grade A bumholes.

The meeting over ran horribly which meant I got back to Lvierpool Street for 17:30. The train was rammed solid 'til Hatfield Peveral and I thought I'd gotten away with things until we got between Ipswich & Manningtree, where I simply paid for a Manningtree to Ipswich single! He was a good chap.

Cheers for the assistance, much appreciated.
